TEST DRIVE # 12



Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.



Daring Drinks

A couple of local bars are going out of their way to make new and interesting drinks for their customers to try, in a long-standing war between the two bars. Of course, they're going a little off the rails, so there are some very interesting - and somewhat scary - combinations popping out of the woodworks. And they want everyone passing by to try them.

Electric Eels

An odd ayakashi is causing some of the eels at the local aquarium to become literally electric, causing the eels to shock the other inhabitants in their tanks. This is causing a pretty big uproar and if it isn't fixed soon, someone could die or the aquarium might even just shut down entirely.

Frog Friend

Large frogs are popping up all over the place and following people around. They don't seem malicious in any way, but they are kind of creepy to look at, brightly colored, and leave trails of slippery goo wherever they stand. Oh, and they like to jump at people and knock them over, just for fun.

Gaseous Grandpas

A local home for older men is having a problem with a number of their inhabitants where they literally cannot stop farting and belching. It turns out this is the work of an ayakashi that just thinks farts and burps are funny and knows it's easier to get those sorts of things out of old people. Help the poor old guys out, would you?

Horrifying Hentai

Many known otaku in the area are dealing with a rather terrifying problem - every hentai they watch lately comes into reality very suddenly. Sometimes this means cute, begging girls, sure, but it also means tentacles and aliens and a whole rash of other things too. You'll have to stop the ayakashi that is bringing these 'fantasies' to life in order to save these guys.

[Dealing with the frogs is a game, and an amusing one: Dust draws the attention of the nearest one, baits it into leaping for him, then dodges backwards in a burst of speed that leaves the frog landing haplessly where Dust had stood moments before, while the Sen-Mithrarin flips back to his feet a few yards away.]

[When the frog bounds again, Dust is ready, darting away again to lead the creature slowly away from others.]

[Problem, though: What's the next step? He could probably use some help dealing with the frog... without killing it. The sword at his side would handle that job easily enough, so clearly he doesn't consider it an option.]

[He isn't INTENTIONALLY showing off, but there's Dust, perched lightly on the rim of the aquarium tank so he has a perfect view down into the water below.]

I can get the eels out, if you need me to so you can do something about them... or at the least, we could get them into a smaller tank.

I think something needs to be done about them, especially if these tank walls are made of plastic and not glass. You won't be hurt by the electricity?

[ Mikleo politely pushes the drinks that's forced at him away. It's been a constant chain since he entered this part of the world. He doesn't know the whole history but it seems like these people were trying to rope more customers and they really wanted him to try the drinks they made. However, he doesn't know how much tolerance he had for alcohol much less know what it is. The stuff already had a strange smell that made him slightly nauseated but the most important part was trying to get away unscathed. ]

[Someone on the other side of the room is getting CPR and everyone is shouting. Myfanwy, secure in her invisibility, stares through the damp front of the aquarium tank at the eerily blue-lit water inside. There are several moray eels in the tank, snapping at the other fish as they convulse, go limp, and float up towards the surface, and she can practically feel the weird snap of electricity in organs that shouldn't be doing that.

She can feel it, in fact. Not even "practically." It's like biting down on aluminum foil, an uncomfortable, unnatural sizzle that raises the hairs on her arms and shivers around the fish in electric coils.]

Stop that, will you?

[She reaches out, not sure what she's doing, and grabs the weird sizzling parts of the eel with her mind. It just makes so much sense, somehow.

For a moment, she feels electric, and sways forward, about to go face-first into the glass as she bends her mind to figuring out the electricity and shutting it down before the eels -- and half the patrons -- wind up dead.]

Whatever the barkeep had put into it had made Felicia feel as light as meringue cookie served alongside a nice black tea in the dead of winter.

...The subtle briskness in the air that fell upon those seated around her could only be described as 'pleasantly refreshing'-- and, smiling dreamily, Felicia slurped more of the fantastic drink through her straw.]

Drawing her leather jacket up around herself at the sudden chill, she called for a drink of her own and watched the obvious delight on the other woman's face.]

[Her own concoction was a brilliant purple, almost neon, and she stirs it idly, watching Felicia a little more closely. It hadn't been hard to identify the source of that chill, after all.]

He strikes a pose in front of a particularly colorful one and holds his phone up to take a selfie. He's too focused on getting the angle right and making sure everything is in focus to see the frog getting ready to jump.]

[Yuri looks more subdued than usual, barely even resembling himself as he helps out in the retirement home. He came here to deal with the ayakashi, but at some point he ended up sitting with the residents and listening to endless old man stories all morning. Sure, he has to wear facemask to keep the smell out and he kind of wishes he had a gas mask instead, but with the current situation, the usual visitors aren't showing and it pissed him off enough that he decided to fill in for all of them himself.

Once he sees someone else who looks like they might be from the Far Shore, that relaxed expression goes away and he frowns and points at them.]

There were downsides to letting one's curiosity get the better of them, but so far the young man isn't drunk, just slightly tipsy, and visibly dubious about the newest concoction set infront of him.

Probably because it's visibly, if slowly, melting the glass it's in.]

[It's the practical but boring approach: Xehanort, with rubber gloves nearly to his shoulders NOT meant for this sort of thing, casually fishing about in one of the shallower aquariums for a particularly large and aggressive eel doing its best to electrocute him. [Honestly.... she'd just wanted to have a nice day on the Near Shore, enjoying the summer weather before it became too unbearable, maybe window browse a little bit for clothes she knows she won't ever get to wear.]

[But it feels like she hasn't had even that long to enjoy herself before her phone had been buzzing with a message, an ayakashi alert. At least if there's one good thing, it sounds like her god is in the city too at the local aquarium. When it comes to matters like this, Wendy likes to cheat a little by slipping onto the buses without paying.]

[And it should cover the aquarium fees, too, although it's not an easy thing to hunt him down. [She's definitely not old enough to be drinking any of these, but somehow she's ended up with a literal armful of glasses, which she's trying desperately not to spill as she looks for a place to dispose of them.

This doesn't quite work though; while she's doing a rather impressive job of winding and weaving around the crowds, ducking and avoiding people and managing to not spill a drop (if she thinks of this as training of some kind it makes it easier to deal with). However, someone moves in a way Chrome hadn't anticipated and knocks into her, throwing her off balance.

Despite her attempts to regain it, it's a moot point-- down she goes, and takes the drinks with her. A few glasses go flying, splashing anyone unfortunate enough to be caught in their path, but most of them just end up on Chrome herself. Glasses smash against the pavement and Chrome sits there for a moment, staring at the shattered glass and her own bloodied knees and palms and laments that she now smells very strongly of pineapple liquor. Who decided to make pineapple-flavored drinks in the first place?? This is the worst.]

Please stop following me... [It's a tired sort of line, spouted as if it's the 47358th time she's done so and is now saying it out of a sense of habit. The frog, a garish shade of purple, croaks good-naturedly and, of course, continues to follow. Chrome sighs. Such is life.

She doesn't appear to be paying any attention to it beyond that spouted line every so often. She goes through her day and stops by a store, emerging carrying a bag loaded with sweets--mostly chocolate--and pretends she doesn't notice the frog gearing up for a big leap.

'Pretends,' because when it does leap, Chrome dodges it with practiced ease... but unfortunately that means some other soul might not be as lucky.

[The fact that this isn't the first and probably not the last time she's faced off against questionable tentacles says something about her life, surely. Despite this, Chrome flips and dodges like an acrobat, using her trident to stab where she can and destroy the tentacles as they come at her.

However, it appears all is lost as the tentacles seem to decide working together is best and close in on all sides. They hit her straight on, Chrome crying out in alarm as they begin to wrap around her, but--

Well, remember those literal electric eels? Yeah. Suddenly it's not Chrome wiggling around in their grasp, but one of those.] I'm over here.

[The real Chrome drops down from--somewhere high above, landing in a crouch before slowly standing, leaning slightly on the trident. Anyone with the ability to notice will pick up on the fact the eel had been illusioned to look like Chrome and switched out at the last possible second.

The eel wastes no time in letting its displeasure show. Who wants fried tentacles for lunch??

Chrome fusses with her bangs a moment and regards the dead tentacle creature with a mild amount of regret. Poor thing. Alas. The wiggling eel also disappears in a hissing smoke-- another illusion?]

There has to be a source somewhere... [This is getting tiresome, honestly.]

Asking the bartender had gotten Nyx an answer of 'soy sauce' as the salty thing.

So Nyx had a different free sample now. It looks green. Too green. He'll glance at the first person to walk by, raising an eyebrow.]

[The frogs themselves aren't that much of an issue and Venus is trying to make quick work at herding them all up together. It seems easy enough and with some gentle coaxing they are listening to her--until one of the smaller ones decides to rebel!

It makes a leap towards her and with a loud "EEEK!" she's knocked into a large trail of slime. Venus sits there in utter disgust, not wanting to move. Espeically when she lifts her right hand and looks at the slime dripping down it.]

Next come the pair of over sized rubber cleaning gloves she borrowed from a mopping cart as well as a latter. She leans over the tank, splashing the water with her gloved hand]

[She leans over more as the eels seem to swim closer. If only she was just a little closer with only one foot resting on the ladder. She's not paying too much mind to that but if she leans in much more she's going to fall into the tank itself and those rubber gloves aren't going to be very helpful.]

The only movements he really makes are to hook his cigarette between his fingers and pull it free from his lips, breathing out a line of smoke.

[After watching the frog jump on someone, Nora has an idea! Mostly of the fun variety. The key to keeping frogs from jumping on people, you just need to jump on the frogs. Easy enough plan, right?

So she runs up to a frog and jumps on it. Then lifts it as high as she can. Whoever was under it has unfortunately been squished by a second body on them for another minute or so. Now however they are as free as a bird! Unless you've been observing instead and now there's a rather happy looking ginger with a frog.]

Have a large beast jump at him and knock him over felt strangely familiar, although the excess of fluids definitely wasn't, and Viktor had to admit that the colorful creatures weren't all that scary. In fact, they were rather cute!

"Who's a good boy?" he said in a tone very close to babytalk to the enormous vivid purple frog that had caught him off guard and landed him flat on his back.

He reached up to pet it, grimacing when his hand came back covered in goo.

"Ah, I think you're going to have to let me up. I'd love to stay here with you all day, but I don't think my tardiness will be appreciated by everyone. Even if I tell them how cute you are!"

Yep, he's completely unbothered by all this and actually seems rather pleased by it all.
