TEST DRIVE # 12

Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.

Daring Drinks

A couple of local bars are going out of their way to make new and interesting drinks for their customers to try, in a long-standing war between the two bars. Of course, they're going a little off the rails, so there are some very interesting - and somewhat scary - combinations popping out of the woodworks. And they want everyone passing by to try them.

Electric Eels

An odd ayakashi is causing some of the eels at the local aquarium to become literally electric, causing the eels to shock the other inhabitants in their tanks. This is causing a pretty big uproar and if it isn't fixed soon, someone could die or the aquarium might even just shut down entirely.

Frog Friend

Large frogs are popping up all over the place and following people around. They don't seem malicious in any way, but they are kind of creepy to look at, brightly colored, and leave trails of slippery goo wherever they stand. Oh, and they like to jump at people and knock them over, just for fun.

Gaseous Grandpas

A local home for older men is having a problem with a number of their inhabitants where they literally cannot stop farting and belching. It turns out this is the work of an ayakashi that just thinks farts and burps are funny and knows it's easier to get those sorts of things out of old people. Help the poor old guys out, would you?

Horrifying Hentai

Many known otaku in the area are dealing with a rather terrifying problem - every hentai they watch lately comes into reality very suddenly. Sometimes this means cute, begging girls, sure, but it also means tentacles and aliens and a whole rash of other things too. You'll have to stop the ayakashi that is bringing these 'fantasies' to life in order to save these guys.

[Sanji has saved plenty of people today, whether by his own skill or on accident, but one thing remains certain: they're all strangers scrambling around, trying to dodge uglier fates.

So there's something very wrong with this script; this is the first time anyone's said his name.

If the woman thought his actions were alien before, the naked shock on his expression is another slap to memories he can't remember. He nearly stops in his tracks, tentacle monsters be damned for a second, because now he's got questions and he wants some goddamned answers, and--]

Oi, this way! [Without further comment, Sanji grabs the woman's wrist and abruptly changes their trajectory. It's not the smoothest switch of direction, but it takes them into a slim alley that he hopes the monster won't be able to squeeze through.]

[Yeah in hindsight, it might have been a bit of a mistake to blurt out his name like that, but he surprised her okay?!

She yelps as he tugs her off sideways towards-- oh, brilliant! It won't be able to follow in there. As long as they can keep the tentacles from snagging them and dragging them out, but that should be manageable by moving deep enough inside.

Once they are safe, she pauses to catch her breath.]

That was close...

[Focus on the monster. Focus on the monster so you won't focus on he's dead.]

Aa... yeah. [That was close. Just what Sanji was about to say.

Or that'll be the excuse he uses when his mouth dries up and he can't scratch another word any higher than his Adam's apple. In hindsight, at least the shitty tentacles gave him something else to think about, and he can't help the glance over his shoulder to gauge the monster's progress.

-- Yeah, it's gonna take a while for it to get anywhere. Chances are high the damned thing'll get bored and wonder off to find a new damsel.]

Neh... Miss, have we met before? [Right to the point. Sanji's losing ground in every area of pleasantries, but this is important]

[There it is, the inevitable question. Of course he's asking that, and of course she's got to play this the only way she can. She casts a curious look at him from the corner of her eye.]

Hm? No, I don't think so...

[Really, what a lucky thing she's an experienced actress/con artist.]

[Probably his fault for thinking he'd get anywhere trying the direct approach, and Sanji's shoulders slump - not in defeat, he's not ready to give up after a question, but his expression twists into polite disagreement. He smells bullshit.]

... Well. [Pausing, and then he rubs idly at his chin. He mutters under his breath.]

Hard to think I'd forget such a beautiful lady...

[The thought barely has time to simmer before he straightens, eyes wide, and he slams a fist into his open palm]

I got it! A forbidden love, right? Of course you can't speak of it! [He's looking so excited he might literally catch on fire. That is to say nothing of the hearts.] Aaaaaah, but what a lucky guy I am~! To be caught in the midst of love's violent torrent~!

[A younger her would have punched him right about now.

Let it go, she tells herself, one because this is better than the line of questioning continuing, two because how heartbreaking is it to listen and talk with him here and now and like this? Would you really punch a dead guy, Nami?

...Brook doesn't count.]

Right, right! [She says, half-dismissive and half-resigned. Whatever you say, blondie.] In any case, let's get out of this alley, okay? It's dirty.

[And since he's a shinki and can't teleport the same way gods can, that puts the onus on her. She takes hold of his arm and focuses on the rooftop, and a moment later there they are. Let those tentacles figure out where they are now.]
