TEST DRIVE # 40

Beginning with June's AC: Existing Players are allowed to submit TDM threads for up to 1 Proof of the required 2 Proofs per the Activity Check Guidelines. TDM comments can also be used to supplement 1 Proof, but not both. (New Players are only required to check-in on their first month in the game.)

Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters!
Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.

Noisome Nuisance

There have been a lot of complaints lately about cars driving by at all hours with their bass booming so loud it rattles the windows. Some of these complaints are cars but some are ayakashi, zipping up and down residential areas. Either find the drivers and make them quit or hunt down the ayakashi and silence them for good!

Online Overload

Someone somewhere is extremely pissed off at the current biggest MMO or something because the servers have been under a DDoS attack for the last week. (DDoS, or “designated denial of service” attacks, are when someone overloads the servers to prevent others from accessing the site or game in question.) Time to track down the person responsible and chase off any ayakashi lurking around their residence making the problem worse. Not your usual wire-nibbling squirrels, are they!

Properly Popped Popcorn

It’s here. The biggest blockbuster movie of the decade has finally arrived! Tickets are on sale now! Several people are praying for their tickets, which means it's now your job to wait in line either physically or online and get tickets for those who can't do it themselves. It might not seem like something worthy of praying to a god for, but that's how important it is to certain people - knowing your followers can be important for a god and their shinki!

Quintessential Quenelling

An online videographer - a vlogger - has decided to join the cooking part of a popular video hosting website! They started off by giving advice on very unique, uncommon techniques such as Quenelling, but the downside is that “quenelle” is also not a common search term. They're very depressed about not having a big following, several videos in. Encourage the vlogger, find a way to spotlight the cooking videos, both, or perhaps another path entirely - maybe the vlogger has a better way to put their skills to use! After all, they're still a culinary school student themselves.

Rabid Rescues

All throughout the month of June in Naramachi, a section of the city Nara, hosts the Nyaramachi Neko Art Festival. There's local initiatives spaying and neutering the strays, while attempting to find homes for them, but you know there's going to be a handful of very feral cats resisting the rescuers efforts. From babies who don't know better to seniors that have always lived on the streets, they're willing to claw and bite anyone trying to catch them. Perhaps you've been assigned to one that was caught, but needs socializing before it could join a household.

Interrupting Illumination

It’s weird enough when your lights start flickering, but it’s even worse when it’s a whole street doing that. People are having trouble working from home, nobody’s sleeping well, children are cranky... and it’s definitely building up bad vibes all around! Help track down the source of these illumination problems, ayakashi caused or not, before ayakashi are drawn to the peoples’ frustrations anyway!

Janky Jeeps

Travelers are finding themselves with all kinds of car troubles - Jeeps especially! Running out of gas, rusting parts, loose steering - it’s incredibly dangerous! Track down the multitude of mini ayakashi that have taken a liking to this brand of vehicle before any more offroaders have to cut their adventures short before they even get off the highway!

King Kong

The news on the Near Shore is all awash with urgent news reports about an escaped gorilla running rampant through a small town. While it hasn’t caused too much property damage, it does seem to be making off with anything shiny that catches his eye, startling the townspeople and climbing into hard-to-reach places. It’s currently taken position at the top of a tall shrine and aggressively threatening anyone who comes close. Won’t somebody do something about this mad monkey?

A Labor of Love

There’s a small park at the center of town that holds a fountain with a single name on a plaque - an elderly gentleman who’d volunteered so much time in tending to the park over the years. Everyone in town knows his name or holds cherished memories of seeing him tend to the grounds with such care and kindness. But this year is the first year the little park will have to fend without him and in his memory, the town has come together to care for it in his place. Help clean up the park or tend to the plants or lend a hand in keeping his beloved park beautiful.

Make Mine Mild

One particular chain of restaurants used to be famous as one of the only places you could get good, spicy food - not anymore! Someone in upper management decreed that their recipes were just too spicy to attract the average customer. Perhaps you can help a single restaurant, the employees or its customers? Perhaps you can go straight to the top and sort out why the upper management Suit And Tie Guy can’t stand a little spice in his life? Or maybe you’re someone who’s THRILLED that the super spicy food is gone and you can enjoy their food now. You might have to beg a friend to keep it that way, though.

TEST DRIVE # 38

Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters!

Deadbeat Dads

Eel-like ayakashi have taken a liking to hanging out with deadbeat dads, luring them into even worse ways to be distracted from spending time with their family, and ways to spend their money other than on child support. The resulting drinking, gambling and womanizing is a downward spiral that draws in the mother and child as well, creating a wealth of negativity for the ayakashi to revel in.
Track down the dads, wherever they’re hanging out, and dispatch the ayakashi.

Exciting Excavator

There is hardly a child out there who hasn’t longingly dreamed of driving an excavator. It looks so exciting, to move huge piles of dirt around like that! Big construction machines are so cool!
Now, even if that longing is forgotten (sorry, shinki) or long-buried as a childish dream, it has a chance to be revived. Prayers really do take one everywhere, don’t they.
Lend your Jack-Of-All-Trades skills to the construction site, and get behind the wheel of an excavator. You totally know how to run this thing, right? As always, there will be another god or shinki on hand to back you up (or tear you down).

Fans and Fence

Fans of the romantic drama “Snow in Summer” have descended in droves on a distant, sleepy neighbourhood that was a filming location. In paying homage to their favourite show, the tourists have carelessly left behind litter like plastic bottles and empty bento boxes, and the trash is irking the residents.
The worst point of contention is the fence. The backdrop of the drama’s pivotal confession scene, it draws the most visitors. However, in the drama it was marked with graffiti, and now it is back to being a normal drab grey. So some, perhaps well-meaning?, visitors have taken the liberty of recreating the elaborate graffiti, true to the scene.
Now the residents are livid, and they’ve called in anyone who would listen, including gods, to their side, demanding reprisal, or at the very least for these damn kids to get off their lawns.
Good luck mediating this dispute.

Ginger Gulp

Going out for drinks after work is a salaryman’s lot in life. Particularly Friday and Saturday night, the alcohol gets flowing and the workers get stumbling.
The market for remedies against the ills of drinking is bursting, and now comes one drink hoping to outshine them all. Ginger Gulp says that it will soothe the bloated stomach, ease the cramped kidneys, whisk away headaches, and even freshen your breath.
Too good to be true? Although tiny, the free sample being offered to you (or by you) should prove that actions speak louder than words. But one needs to be staggering drunk, first. How else will you know if it really works?

Hunter Hippos

Contrary to their dawdling and somewhat dopy appearance, hippos are in truth fierce animals. They can, and do, occasionally hunt to eat meat, and are powerfully aggressive when provoked.
The herd of hippopotamus-like ayakashi that have taken over the Tokyo Dome baseball stadium are quite like the natural animal they’ve taken after. Most of the time they are content to simply wallow about the grassy field, and during baseball games they seem almost sedate as they ‘graze’ upon the fan’s fervour.
However, should anyone come along and threaten them, you can count on having a real fight on your hands. They are huge, way faster than they look, and will have no qualms about doing as much damage to their attackers as possible by biting with their long, sharp incisor teeth and by straight-up ramming with their bodies. You’ll probably need more power than finesse in this fight to clear the famous stadium of ayakashi.

TEST DRIVE # 37

Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! Yackety-yack

When something becomes popular, it seems you can’t turn around without running into it.
The catchy swing song from the 50s Yackety-yack has come back with a trendy new cover by a now-famous boy band, and you can’t go anywhere on the Near Shore without hearing this song. Seemingly three times a minute. (“Let It Go” had nothing on this.)
Whether you’re grooving to it or want to break every speaker playing it, you’ll need to deal with it.

ZZZ Zone

It’s no secret that most workers in Japan put in overly long hours. One small but forward-thinking company is putting overseas research to the test, and making their employees lay down for a 20 minute power nap after lunch. It might be working too well though, as some are hard to wake up when their time is done.
How tactful can you and your partner be in not only making sure that the workers come take their nap, but also in making sure they wake up in time? Or, ya know, maybe these beds need a test run first.

Agriculture Aspirations

With a rapidly shrinking workforce, Japan is looking at a labour crisis in many fields (literally).
Following the fervent prayer of one of your followers, you and whomever you’ve dragged along have ended up facing a classroom full of despondent teens; students that you have to do your best to convince that a life of hard work in agriculture is the way to go.
So, what’s so great about shoveling manure and weeding fields under the hot sun? The teacher is nodding at you encouragingly, expectantly...

Boredom Buster

Somedays, nothing in particular happens. At least, nothing the stuff stories are made of.
A day with no interesting prayers. A community where you just can’t seem to find a single ayakashi. A reconnaissance mission where nothing is unusual. A stakeout where nothing is moving. Whatever the case, you’re bored as heck, but you’re obligated to stick with this task for a while longer. What do you do to break up the boredom?

Chill and Cough

Usually the only time a god feels down in the dumps is if their shinki is stinging them, or if they’ve been munched on by an ayakashi. Unfortunately for the gods, there is an ayakashi out there who has combined the best of both worlds.
The chameleon-like ayakashi stealthily lingers near the god, making them feel miserably sick, until they are weak enough for the ayakashi to come out of hiding and easily nibble on the god’s delicious body.
Have your shinki nurse you until the ayakashi shows itself, trade stories of woe with the other gods, or maybe shinki need to vent at each other over how childish their ill gods are being.

Testy Testers

Welcome to being part of the test market! Here, in this small room filled with other volunteers, you will be asked your honest and unfiltered opinion on any number of products. Potato chips made only from the peel (clearly the best part), candy themed after the latest fashion trend (zippers), gloves made from 100% recycled paper (just because we can)... the list of odd and fabulous items goes on.
Conversation brings out more opinions, so you’re free to discuss your thoughts with other testers, but just don’t get in a fight over it, okay?

(Real-world inspiration for items can be found here!)

Umpire Usurp

Recently, one baseball umpire has been making headlines for an unfortunate reason. His calls at the plate have been getting progressively worse, calling obvious balls strikes and vice versa, to the point where the fans are livid and ready to riot.
Protect this umpire and get to the root of his problem? Join the side of the raging fans? Or maybe dig a little deeper and find out that someone stands to benefit from this umpire’s fall from grace.

Violence vs. Violin

After the disastrous earthquake and tsunami in East Japan, a violin maker made a violin from the driftwood. The sound of that violin is incredibly beautiful and soothing, touching the hearts of all who hear it.
Turns out, the power of the “tsunami violin” extends to the Far Shore as well.
At this concert, a grouping of small chick-like spirits that resonate with positive wishes have gathered. Unfortunately, that group attracts a pack of snake-like ayakashi that would love to devour those positive spirits.
It’s an unseen battle that will hopefully go unnoticed by the concert-goers and performers, if you do your job of dispatching the ayakashi well!

Wandering Whippoorwills

Traditionally, the Whippoorwill bird isn’t found outside of the Southeastern United States, but now astute birdwatchers are reporting seeing them in the vicinity of temples and shrines to Amenohiwashi-no-kami. Nature professors, veterinarians, auguries, and many others curious about the event have flocked (!) to the area to see for themselves if this is true.
The congestion around such a minor god’s temples and shrines is a little much for the caretakers to handle, though - from birds and people both - if you’d care to help out. For starters, there’s garbage collection, crowd control, rinsing off the sidewalks, or restocking some of the temple and shrine supplies that visitors want to take with them.

Xièxie

There are plenty of Chinese restaurants all over the globe, and they draw in crowds for many reasons. A less common one growing in popularity is young students trying to practice their language skills by reading the menu and ordering in their clipped Mandarin.
At the threshold of some Chinese restaurants, small pig-faced ayakashi are loitering, waiting to catch a ride in on a student’s shoulder. Then, no matter the student’s natural personality, they become progressively more brash and insulting as the ayakashi affects them.
The ayakashi are nimble despite their pig-like look, and if threatened will run around between people’s feet, making them difficult to catch.

Overpopulation On-the-wing

Well done, dispatching that huge panther-like ayakashi that was terrorizing pigeons last month!
Bad news though- now that the pigeons know that this temple is safe, they’ve been flocking there in droves, and wrecking the noble architecture with their droppings.
For all that this is a temple devoted to feathered friends, please do something about this pigeon overpopulation?

Passed on Peacefully

It is a sombre duty, but necessary. When one passes away, someone has to come and clean out the belongings from the residence of the deceased.
However, that can lead to finding more than you might have expected. Hoarded collections of pincushions? Dirty laundry piled to the ceiling? Everything so starkly impersonal that you’d wonder if there’d been a person living there at all? The workers with this duty have seen it all.
Go forth and give them a hand, and clear out any lingering ayakashi while you’re at it. You want the next resident to have a peaceful life, right?

Queer Questions

A reality TV show has started doing surprise interviews of people on the streets -- but what's with these interview questions?! "Tell us about your favorite pair of underwear?" "How many flavors of instant noodle have you had, and what's the best?" "What's the longest you've ever worn a shirt without washing it?" Personal, embarrassing or just plain weird, it's hard to tell what they'll come up with next.
And oops -- it looks like someone just shoved the microphone at you....

Racy Restoratives

A new over-the-counter energy drink promises to make you feel like you're 20 again, and to everybody's surprise, it seems to be true! Newly energetic office workers and senior citizens are staying up all night to party, taking over trendy dance spots, picking each other up for hot dates, necking in the park and more. They feel great, but is this really safe? Convince these overstimulated seniors to take care of their health before someone breaks a hip in a really embarrassing way.

Sunset Secret

The urban legends about ‘something mysterious’ happening when you pass through the narrow space between a wall and a utility post are not uncommon.
In a small community outside Tokyo, there has been a spike of concerned prayers as it seems one of these legends has come to life. Any youth passing through the gap just as the shadows from sunset pass over the spot will get a small reptile-like ayakashi attached to their shoulder. And the scary thing is, more people than usual can see it.
The ayakashi is tiny but mighty to be noticed by so many people. Be cautious as you team up to eliminate the threat.

Jingle Jeans

The fresh new spring fashion trend is accessorized denim. Super-accessorized! Bells, chains, beads, zippers, belts and more drip from every inch of this season's hot styles, and the stores need someone to model their new stock -- and bring in the buyers. It's your job to convince the fashion-savvy residents of Tokyo that these new jeans are exactly what their wardrobe needs, without getting your five chain belts tangled.

Kitty Kibble

A huge, panther-shaped ayakashi is haunting the streets of Asakusa, and the pigeons at the local pigeon shrine have disappeared! Take care of this feline predator so the surviving sacred birds won't end up as dinner on the wing.

Lagging Laundry

The residents of an Ikebukuro high-rise have an unusual problem: no matter how sunny the day or how long it's been hanging, their laundry just won't dry! Do they have a moist microclimate? An ayakashi of mold and despair? Or do they just need someone to get all that wet laundry to the nearest laundromat with a dryer until the weather warms up?

Melon Mania

A gardener in Ueno has planted a brand-new strain of muskmelon in his window boxes, and this plant is going wild! Vines have taken over the exterior of his apartment building, and beach-ball-sized fruit are popping up all over. He needs help bringing in the harvest… but his neighbors are begging for this plant to wind up in the compost heap so their lives can go back to normal. Whose side will you take?

Nice & Neat

A community art project is being hosted at the Tokyo Art Museum! Jigsaw-shaped pieces of wood about the size of a hand have been handed out to artists and crafters throughout Japan, and the pieces have just been shipped back. Now, they have to be assembled into one giant jigsaw puzzle for display. There's just one problem: someone forgot to number the pieces before they were shipped! Now they've got a 20,000 piece puzzle whose pieces don't match, and it has to be finished this weekend for the grand opening. Help!

Eww, Eco

A small town recently changed its sorting rules for trash, and the residents have been slow on the uptake. The result has been that many bags need to be sorted at the collection centre. Wading through piles of trash to sort the plastics from the pet bottles is probably one of the least pleasant prayers you're going to get, but you're going to answer, right? It's for the sake of the earth, after all!

Fine Fingerwork

For anyone not used to it, it can become the most intimidating and frustrating things about eating in Japan: chopsticks. How on earth can you get the food into your mouth using two thin sticks?
A human’s desperate, hungry prayer leads you into trying to teach them how to use chopsticks. But do you even know how to use them yourself? Or maybe you are as master-level as it gets. Either way, better grab some help and get this done before anyone starves.

Gift Giver

Finding the perfect gift is always a challenge. And when Christmas, a birthday, and Valentine's day all fall in quick succession, what three gifts can one give? Even worse, this is for the person who seems to have everything already. You can see why your follower was praying for help, can’t you? Good luck finding the perfect gift, times three.

Happy Happy!

All that there is to this prayer is being happy! Go out on the street and show everyone how happy you are! Of course, it’s even easier being happy with someone else, right? Grab a friend (or stranger), get out there with a spring in your step and your best smiles, and spread some happiness!
Keep in mind you’ll have to work extra hard for your efforts to be noticed by humans of the Near Shore. Attract attention in the best ways possible!

Inner Inklings

Everyone has thoughts that they don’t speak aloud. About the person you passed on the street, about the people at work, about people at home. Sometimes, things are better left unsaid. Sometimes, words are held back although they should be spoken.
There is a flamingo-like ayakashi going around that likes to whisper in ears and entice humans into saying whatever is on their mind, for better or worse.
And although ayakashi usually like to try and eat Far Shore residents, this one gets a kick out of getting gods and shinki to spill their inner monologue first.
Help humans, and yourself, from falling prey to this ayakashi.

Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! Zip Zippers

The popularity of a certain video game has led to a spike in clothing designs featuring a lot of zippers. A lot. Whether self-altered or bought, it seems like most every bit of casual clothing now has zippers from head to toe.
This has led to a viral competition among youth: unzip as many zippers on your unsuspecting target as possible. Bonus points if you get it on video for the world to see!
Become one of the trendy and show off your zippered up clothes, at the risk of being hit by a prankster. Defend innocent passers-by from said pranksters. Or you and your cameraperson can aim for internet glory by unzipping all the things. (Is going unnoticed by Near Shore people an unfair advantage? Careful about drawing too much attention to yourself!)

Amazing Apricot

Amazing Apricot is the nickname of a dwarf bunny that has become an internet sensation. Apricot’s owner has trained her to do all sorts of tricks like a dog - beg, shake a paw, play fetch, roll over, jump through a hoop… all made delightfully more adorable when performed by this tiny rabbit.
But owner Nakazawa is in a pinch- he’s hit a mental block about what to try getting Apricot to do next, and the internet is going to move on without her if he doesn’t do something fast.
Can you help teach this bunny a new trick and save her internet popularity? Or should you convince Nakazawa that it’s curtains for this show?

Blue Blues

In the night clubs of Shinjuku, blues music is the sweeping trend. Ever beings to make use of whatever humans are passionate about, ayakashi have been clustering around the clubs. The side-effect of this is that people have been becoming very depressed after listening to sad songs, and way too wound up after listening to the up-beat ones.
Help moderate the mood swings by getting rid of the loitering ayakashi.

The Case Case

You get a strange prayer over your phone: There is a briefcase at a specific, but remote, location. The request is simply for the case to be looked after for five hours.
Should you choose to accept the request, you’ll find everything as described.
The only trouble is that two hours in, you suddenly are assailed by a knife-wielding mob, intent on getting that case by any means! Since when did you become the unwitting star of an action movie?
(For the detail-oriented, the case can contain anything from gold bars to peanut butter, and the particulars behind the scenario anything you like. It’s not game canon, so go wild!)

Digital Dragons

The latest update to a popular fantasy MMO has players everywhere glued to their keyboards trying to defeat an epic dragon boss. The rewards are exclusive but the fight is almost unbeatable: some of the dedicated (and frustrated) players are praying for divine monster-killing assistance, some are praying for a good healer or tank, and some of their friends are praying that they remember to spend enough time off the computer to eat and sleep!

TEST DRIVE # 31

Underdog Upgrade

It is a hard world out there for gods. Countless numbers of minor gods are born from the wishes of humans, and an equally countless number of those minor gods disappear once they are no longer being prayed to. While some are accepting of their fate, some will “never say die!”
One such minor god is looking to up their popularity, by any means. Door to door solicitation, graffiti, street performance, skywriting - anything goes. Can you offer them advice, or join them on an (ill-conceived?) quest for glory? The more outgoing the better, since those of the Far Shore go as unnoticed as background noise until they draw sufficient attention to themselves.

Vodka Voters

In an attempt to raise the popularity, and therefore sales, of vodka in Japan, a company is holding a very classy event in Ginza. Adults are welcome to come to the pavilion and mix their own vodka cocktails, which will then be served to a panel of discerning judges. The best-voted drink will become the flagship cocktail for the company’s Japan launch. Come make your vodka drink the next big hit!
Or... you know, a couple of those judges are looking a little woozy. Maybe you could take their place for a bit.

Walnut Wallop

All Mr. Inui wants is a peaceful life running his walnut orchard, but lately, things haven't been peaceful at all. A horde of hungry squirrels have moved into the grove, and besides eating up his harvest, they're throwing the ripe nuts down at him and his workers! Those walnuts hit hard, and the squirrels have great aim.
Help Mr. Inui and his employees chase off the angry squirrels, or help pick the crop before the furry little thieves can get their paws on all of it.

Xerox-Xerox

Nothing draws hate like a photocopy machine that won’t work. Especially when it jams when you’re in a hurry!
A weasel-like ayakashi has taken to hanging out in xerox machines, purposefully sabotaging them, and basking in the resulting frustration. One government building in particular has broken out with a plague of the things, and the ayakashi are gleefully feeding off the harried machine technicians as well.
Quell this storm of ayakashi and clear out every one of the troublemakers.
Don’t mind that the building has 46 floors, with at least two machines per floor.

Yeti Yodel

In Hiroshima prefecture, near Mt. Hiba, there are tales that a Yeti-like creature exists. It is called Hibagon, and has been a topic of mystery since the 70s.
Figuring that its lifespan, no matter what manner of creature it is, is nearing its end, a small group of people have dedicated themselves to finding Hibagon and making peace with it before it dies.
Respond to their fervent prayers to call out the creature with your best yodel, and ...keep an open mind?

TEST DRIVE # 30

Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! Pen vs. Pencil

Everyone is allowed a favourite! But the debate over whether pens or pencils are the superior writing tool has boiled over at one Tokyo university. Lengthy formal debates have been booked, rallies organized, and even a support march around campus set up.
Of course, ayakashi are swarming to the (oddly passionate) conflict, but is there someone, or something, behind all this? Take to the university pathways for ayakashi hunting, search for the root of the problem, or just get caught up in the debate yourself.

Quality Quotes

That poetry society is at it again! They’re out on the streets in this cool weather, this time offering freshly-baked sweet potatoes, in return for an answer to this question:
“What is the most quoteable thing you’ve ever heard?”
Strange, interesting, deep, silly-- all* is fair game in their search for the highest quality of quotes.
(*They reserve the right to withhold your sweet potato if you quote something dumb like a commercial jingle. This is serious research.)

Roving Ravens

A flock of ravens has made their croaking way to downtown Tokyo, where they're leaving the local crows outraged and hungry as the bigger birds steal their dinner. The ravens are harassing cats, bullying locals and tourists alike into handouts, and even working out how to rip open kitchen garbage on trash day. It's turning into a real mess! Something has to be done. Shoo away the new residents, but watch out for those sharp beaks.

Slippery Shoes

A new fad is spreading among fashionable Tokyo teens: sleek plastic shoes in bright neon colors. They're super-bright, super-trendy, and cheap enough to afford on a teenager's part-time income, but there's just one problem. As soon as they get wet, there's no traction at all! Rainstorms are turning sloping sidewalks into fashion avalanches. Can they be redesigned for safety? Or is this just a great opportunity to laugh?

Tempting Toppers

There is a variety of ayakashi that, rather than feeding of the negative emotions of humans, is feeding off cats instead. And the tastiest form of emotion for them? The disgruntlement over having to wear cute gachapon hats. The ayakashi linger near gacha machines, tempting the humans into buying the hats and distracting them from any thought of how it irritates a cat to have their ears covered. They then take up residence on the poor cat’s head along with the hat. Rescue the cats of Tokyo from this menacing-- wait, is that a bunny hat?! That’s so cute!♥ Try the pineapple hat next!

TEST DRIVE # 29

Keepsake Knots

There has been a trend of knotted friendship bracelets sweeping through junior high schools. Making the bracelets is a quaint pastime, but it is also becoming something more. The superstition of making wishes while knotting the bracelet has an unusual effect. Amazingly, those who wish particularly strongly have made a tiny, piglet-like protective spirit appear when the bracelet is finished. Of course, the humans can’t see it, but ayakashi do. Knock out the ayakashi trying to get at the good spirits and encourage the positive atmosphere of friendship at school.

Listless Lions and Leopards

The big cats at the famous Ueno Zoo are listless. And while it’s normal for cats to rest for a large part of the day, this behaviour has been going on so long it’s downright worrying.
Answer the prayers of both the zookeepers, who are at a complete loss of what’s wrong with their cats, and the visitors, who want to see the lions and leopards being their big, powerful selves. Just be careful- you might need to get up close and personal with them to find out what the matter is.

Monkey Matsuri Makeup

Wild monkeys are revered and catered to in many areas. One small city has a festival honouring the monkeys that come and grace the local hot springs with their presence. The main feature of the shrine-carrying procession is that everyone is done up with elaborate face paint to make them look monkey-like. Indeed, many residents and tourists also get their faces done up.
Many hands makes light work, so do your best to lend a brush and emulate the style. (Or not. That’s how things go.) If you do a good job, perhaps you will receive some hot spring passes as a thanks!

Necktie Noose

It is a low time in Japan’s hiring season. The desperation of young graduates who have been looking for a job since April has finally reached critical levels, causing an outbreak of ayakashi. These ones have a penchant for curling around neckties, slowly becoming tighter and tighter as they whisper words of despair.
Save these people from giving in to their dark desires and slay the ayakashi.
If your shinki hasn’t been practicing how to cut only what they want to cut, some other creative methods might have to be used to ensure the safety of the human. (Or go with the Spartan method. That works too.)

Onion Overdrive

People at a festival are subjecting themselves to a world record onion chopping race. Organizers are going for “most onions being cut in one place at one time”, and “most onions peeled and sliced in one minute”. (The record is 615 grams, by the way.) Whether you are a spectator taking in the cloud of onion vapor, a participant due to the prayers of your follower, or someone who has to clean up all these chopped onions in the end, there will be tears.

TEST DRIVE # 28

Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! Fish Face

An ayakashi has taken to attaching itself to people’s faces. Other than just making the person gloomy, it has another, more odd, side-effect. Humans who can perceive things of the Far Shore take one look at someone affected by the ayakashi and can’t stop laughing uproariously. Even gods and shinki will get at least a case of the giggles. Sure, the ayakashi makes the person look like they have a fish face, puckered lips and all, but it’s not that funny, is it? Save people from the ayakashi, in more ways than one.

God-speed, Gnome

The travelling gnome is a cute trend that many people follow, watching where their little porcelain garden friend will end up next in the world as volunteers take him along on their travels. However the gnome has stalled somewhere, and the outcry on the internet is quickly reaching a fever pitch. Is it foul play? Or did the gnome simply get lost?
Hopefully you can help him resume his journey.

Homing Hen

Mr. Motoi's landlady has asked him to sell the chicken he was keeping on the building roof. He sent the hen to his daughter in the suburbs… but two days later, she was back on the roof trying to get back into her coop. He's tried three times now to find her a new home, but she keeps coming back! Something needs to be done. Will you help the hen accept her new owner, or try to convince the landlady to have pity?

Icy Idyll

In an effort to promote the beauty and simplicity of the idyll, a poetry society is hitting the streets of Tokyo, offering free ice cream to whomever can compose a (half-decent) idyll on the spot.
What is an idyll, you ask? Simply “a short description in verse or prose of a picturesque scene or incident, especially in rustic life”.
What do you say? Want to give it a go? No one will judge you too harshly. (Except maybe that person beside you.)

Jujube joy

A new jujube specialty shop has opened, with their key item being “emotion infused” jujubes. With a “secret blend of extracts and essences from exotic, organic herbs and plants”, the company claims that anyone eating their candy will have their mood shifted and uplifted!
Red for bravery. Yellow for happiness. Blue for calmness and relaxation. Green for refreshing energy!
Try a sample (strictly one per person, do not eat two at once) and see for yourself!
The only problem is that that secret blend of herbs and plants seems to be more potent on the physiology of someone from the Far Shore. (If the company knew, they would certainly apologize for the oversight.)
