TEST DRIVE # 01



What's that? You're interested in testing out what it would be like to join the wonderful world that is The Far Shore? Well then you have come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see how you would fare in our game without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.



Alleviating Ayakashi
The age-old quest of destroying ayakashi is something that most gods and shinki participate in at some point or another. Lucky for you, there are a lot of the nasty things around. Unlucky for you, they kind of think that eating you would be a lot of fun. So let's hope you're experienced enough at combat to kill them! Or at least avoid them long enough for someone else to…

Broken Bonds
A request has come in from someone who is missing a person who was in their life a long time ago. They want you to find that person and bring them back, no matter what it takes! Unfortunately, the only description you're getting of the person is from when they were seven, and they're likely in their fifties now. But that little picture the requester gave you might help you in your search if you ask enough people! That is, if you can get their attention long enough to ask…

Couple Complaining
There are a lot of couples around lately and certain followers are so jealous of them that they are praying for certain couples to be torn apart. That might not be your cup of tea, but then again it might be, who knows! All you know is that the lovers you're following around are a couple of the most nauseatingly cute people you've ever seen in a relationship. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad to break them up after all, just for the sanity of everyone around them…

Darling Dearest
Of course, with Valentine's Day just around the corner, there are plenty of young Japanese boys praying that they will receive chocolates from the girls that they like. Are you willing to play a little game of match-making? And how exactly are you supposed to push two people together when neither of them tends to notice you for long? Ah well, love is in the air and you might as well help it along!

Exchanging Endowments
Valentine's Day isn't only celebrated by the people of the Near Shore, though. Those of the Far Shore are often placed in positions where they have to exchange chocolates. So what exactly are you going to do? This can be obligation chocolate, friendship chocolate, chocolate to express your love, or anything else you can think of.

Hmm... Well, hopefully they stuck around here! I wonder if there's any way we can look into their records? Like their old school or something... hey, schools are supposed to have year books, aren't they?

[Her arms are crossed and her expression uncertain. Following the couple around isn't all that difficult, especially since their presence is pretty much ignored anyway, but...]

[Yukine is also a shinki, and why two shinki are doing this on their own is kind of a mystery. Well, maybe not- honestly, Yukine's god is kinda a loser, so whatever. Two shinki can manage this on their own! No problem. He doesn't have to be in sword-form to cut a bond like this.

['This' being the way-too-lovely-dovey-for-life couple they've been stalking for a while now. He glances away from them to shake his head at Yuuki.]

No way. It grosses me out. We should just break them up like the prayer asked and get it over with.

[Killua lets out a sigh. Why does he always get stuck with the upbeat kids when they're answering prayers? Ugh.]

Yeah, but how's that gonna help any? Maybe we could take the picture to a crime lab or something. They can age people up by their pictures, right?

[A little for Killua to be gunning for going to the police, but WHATEVER.]

[Neku himself doesn't exactly have the most confident look, either, and the crossed arms on his part makes them look a little like walking bookends. An explosion of giggling sounds from up ahead, and the hanging-on that girl's doing is almost shameless to make him turn green.]

And leave everyone else to suffer having to see that? [He snorts, but at the same time...] I guess we don't really have to break 'em up, but there's gotta be some way to at least convince them to keep it to themselves. It's not like the person praying for it's likely to know the difference.

[They're probably just spiteful because it's getting rubbed in their faces all over the place.]

[Kofuku decided that she was going to do good deeds today.

You see, she had been so inspired by her BFF Yato's heroic work at trying to change himself that she decided that it would be great to do her own part for the greater good! I mean, you gotta help out your followers, right?

Okay, lbr, it's because she's bored and it sounded like a lot of fun.

So escaping Daikoku, she is now wandering around town, following couples at the request of others! They sound like innocent requests for the most part. She heard requests such as "Please help me feel a little less lonely by helping me find other lonely people such as myself." or "See that sickeningly sweet couple? You oughta see if they're really as pure as they pretend they are!!" or "They suck, if you get them separated, it'd make me super happy."

Now, she's not a malevolent god (most of the time) which is possibly why she misinterpreted most of these requests. "Separate them?" Okay! We'll just distract them so they're physically separated, it doesn't have to be that long right? Spy on them? It's because their friend is just oh so concerned! Lonely? That's okay, she'll try to help them make new friends. With such a pure heart, surely the only outcome can be a positive one, right?

Oh. But there is one...little problem...

She's the goddess of misfortune of poverty.]

[Please don't take chocolates from Kofuku.]
[Hell.

This is Hell.

The kitchen became a special Hell. Kofuku loves her friends dearly and she wanted to show her appreciation by making chocolate on her own. She once heard that cooking from the heart is the best way to put your love on a plate, and she didn't want to take any shortcuts when it came to something so important such as that! She really did truly want to show her appreciation to the people in her life.

However, being the goddess of misfortune, she kind of made a disaster in the kitchen, one that will probably cause Daikoku to die of a heart attack. Again. I mean he's already dead.

So. Anyway, little did she know, each stir of her spoon into the chocolate would add more and more bad luck into the dish itself. Her intentions WERE pretty pure though. She knows she is a goddess of bad luck, and that's ok! Like Daikoku said, it's just in her nature and she can't help something like that! However, her friends have stuck with her through and through, and it makes her smile to know that even though she has misfortune tied to her, they still come and visit sometime. This gift was for them.

So she's eventually either approaching you with a gift in hand, one that radiates DARKNESS or you're discovering the kitchen. Why are there sardines on the floor? What was it used for?

Perhaps a little kindness could actually kill someone...]

[Yukine has no words. (For once. But give him a sec. He'll find them.)

He doesn't want to know. Oh god, he doesn't want to know. But what is that on the floor and on the table and don't tell him you are actually cooking with that?! Why is the horror not pixelated out?

But before he can back away and run off to find Daikoku to rein in this disaster, Kofuku has noticed him. And is approaching with something in hand. ...'Something'.
Yukine tries his best to smile back at the beaming pink-haired god.]

Hi, Kofuku-san. What have you been up to? I bet Daikoku-san is gonna be pissed when he sees what you did to his kitchen...

[Although he's keeping his expression normal enough, his eyes keep slipping down to the something in her hands. What the heck is it, I feel like I want to cut it-]

Kofuku no. Kofuku, why.

[ He hadn't been paying attention to where he was walking.

That's the main problem here- he had been so focused on what he was doing, that he hadn't paid attention to where he was stepping, or what he was smelling, until he was already three feet into the kitchen already, and stepping down onto something cold, and wet, and squishy.

He freezes, slowly looking up from his knitting to focus on the room around him. The first thing to hit him was the smell, and then the feeling of DARKNESS. ]

What the- the hell is this shit?

[ Kanji's not quite sure why this prayer ended up with him and his god, but, hell, he'll take it.

More power's always a good thing, right? Right.

So, it's with that in mind that Kanji's looming over an oblivious high school girl, scowling down at her while she looks down at the box in her hands. ]

Come on, just give it ta him!

[ She ducks back behind the corner again, and Kanji sighs, reaching into a pocket and pulling out something small and black, tapping the girl on her shoulder. ]

Here, he likes cats.

[ He drops the small felt cat plushie on the girl's box, scowl deepening as she blinks and looks through him. ]

[ Chocolate isn't the only thing exchanged on Valentine's day, and Kanji's been working himself to the bone to prepare for this.

He's sitting in front of a small table and to one side of him is a small, and dwindling, pile of yarn and cloth. To the other- plushies. Big plushies, little plushies, plushies with hearts, with scrolls, with clothing. Knit ones, sewn ones, felt ones...

There's teddie bears, dogs, and cats, of course, as well as some odder ones. Pink dragons, purple snakes- even a bright yellow-green boar, although where he'd gotten that color is anyone's guess.

The second he notices anyone in the room with him, however- ]

Hey, grab me more ribbon, I'm almost out.

[ ...it isn't a question. ]

[Why is there a red dragon running and jumping across rooftops? Who knows, but luckily it isn't drawing any of the humans attention. Is it an ayakashi? Might want to check that out.]

[Interacting with humans may be frowned upon, but Yuya can't help himself when it comes to kids. Especially ones that seem lonely on a playground or crying because they skinned their knee. Yuya's always ready to make some funny faces or start a juggling act to cheer them up. It all comes naturally to him, which is why he sometimes hangs around swing-sets and sandboxes when he's got nothing to do, and it makes him wonder if he was a big brother before.

But he may be spending too much time playing with the living. Feel free to scold him or join in on some antics.]

[Despite losing his memories, Yuya is always one to celebrate holidays...even if it's something embarrassing like Valentines day. He does have to question it though as he parks himself on a bench and turns the heart-shaped box of chocolates that he just acquired in his hands.]

Is this even right? I thought the guys' turn is White day...Oh well. [No harm, no foul. Still, something doesn't sit well with him. Maybe it's because he can't remember if he had anyone to give chocolate to (or RECEIVED any, and what kind).

Dragon? Sounds like fun

[ Kanji had been out roaming the city, getting a feel for the layout when he saw the dragon. Something about it felt almost familiar, and he veers towards it almost unconsciously, tracking it from the streets as it roams the rooftops.

It doesn't feel ayakashi, at least not from here, but then what the hell is it? ]

Only one way ta find out.

[ He frowns, and a brightly glowing tarot card appears in his hand. Kanji shatters it with less than a thought, and a lightning bolt lances out of the sky towards the dragon.

It's a weak attack, barely even counting as one, feeling more like a static discharge than even a taser, let alone an actual lightning bolt. ]

Entertainer - when they haven't met each other yet

[There's a black shadow near the playground. The shadow is watching Yuya in silence, grey eyes narrowed slightly. If one looked closer they would notice that the shadow is actually a person. A boy the same age as Yuya. A boy with exactly the same face as Yuya.

They look alike - that is the main reason why Yuto continues to watch the other. Isn't it odd that once you're dead you suddenly see someone with exactly the same face as yours? Yuto thinks so, too, and with sadness appearing in is expression he wonders if this person isn't his twin.

Yuto has no memory of his life, he doesn't know for sure. And frankly, he doesn't even know how to approach the other boy. So he keeps observing from the shadow, silent. Maybe even if they are (were?) siblings he shouldn't approach the other. It would be too sad to meet your family and realize you're both dead.

...They're both only fourteen too.

A heavy sigh escapes Yuto's lips.]

A happy-go-lucky, easily upset and chronically broke god who'll pick all the warm and fuzzy prayers to grant. ISO a shinki who can balance checkbooks and will put up with whining.

[Grinning, Tsuzuki flexes his fingers over the keyboard of the internet cafe's computer.]

-- So I'm gonna post this photo on a bunch of forums and see what we get! It'll be way faster!

Hey, I saw they sell sweets at the front counter. Can you go get some for us? This is hungry work.

[He winks and hits enter before glancing back at the screen.

Then, he blanches.]

[It's Valentine's Day, and Tsuzuki is all dressed up in a spiffy suit outside a confectioner's shop, holding a fancy tray. Some girls don't have time to make their own chocolates, after all! This is the biggest sales day of the year, and a handsome guy in a suit draws in plenty of women for the samples.

Unfortunately, this would be working a lot better if more of them noticed him without major effort. He waves wildly, stepping right out into the path of a group of office workers. They split up around him, barely noticing, and breeze right by.]

This isn't working...

[Tsuzuki heaves a heartbroken sigh and filches a sample chocolate from the edge of the tray, popping it into his mouth.]

Oh man, these are delicious. Try one!

[ Unlike Tsuzaki, Kanji's in his usual black and magenta hoodie, not seeing the point of dressing up for a crowd of people who can't see them.

Tsuzaki's theft earns him a glower, and Kanji's hand twitches like he wants to smack his god's hand away from the tray. ]

They're fer the customers, not us! Besides, I know they're good, I made them.

[ He watches the crowd for a couple seconds, frowning ]

Maybe we ought ta go hit up the schools?

[ All that this effort seems to lead to is the inevitable build up of a headache for Hisoka. He knows that there are ways that his situation could be worse, but it's a day where the emotions of passersby run high in many different directions. It's enough to have him spacing out for a moment there, leaning against the cool glass of the shop window.

That's a lapse that has him looking up in surprise when he's addressed, but then his expression settles on a sort of general disapproval to cover up the fact that he hadn't been listening. ]

You're supposed to give it away, not eat it. What kind of idiot does that?

[ It's clearly the kind of idiot that isn't going to succeed in this inane effort if things kept on this way. ]

[Neku's not about to budge at Tsuzuki's request - not because he's being a jerk, or contrary, or even lazy. The flat stare and raise of an eyebrow's hopefully enough to remind the man that, hey, remember how you usually spend the money we get as fast as we earn it? Yeah. His wallet's kind of empty right now.]

[God or not, he still can't stop balking at the total lack of certain life skills with this guy. Which, at the wail against technology, is case in point. Heavy sigh time.]

[Yuto is just passing by when he sees how the group of office workers splits up around the guy and walks away. Then there's a heartbroken sigh and Yuto almost feels bad for the guy. Life is hard (for some people) when they are barely noticed by others around.

(Yuto is not complaining though. He doesn't feel bothered by the fact that he goes unnoticed most of the time.)

That thought doesn't last for too long however, as the guy seems to cheer himself up by eating one of the sample chocolates. Now Yuto sighs and decides to walk up.]

Ayakashi Fight!

[She's used to fighting things that shouldn't belong and while Yukiko understood her position as a god, it didn't mean that she was going to sit around and let everyone else do the work when she was fully capable. Too bad her sword and samurai gear didn't come with her but there were swords around for her to borrow until she could get her own. Dante would be proud of her fighting by now as she parried a few ayakashi back. The young woman spun on her toes as she flicked her wrist, letting out a stream of fire in her wake.

Thankfully while she couldn't summon Amaterasu, she could still use all of her abilities. Be wary of the one who can heal and shoot fire.]

...I can't do it.

[She sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose, looking at the two young lovebirds feeding each other strawberries and giggling. Who in their right mind would ask a married woman to try and break up a sweet couple like this? Then again...it wasn't like she didn't act like how they were. Maybe it was a bias but Yukiko didn't want to break things unless the two in question wanted it to end.]

Hmmmm...maybe if I just drop it in his bag...

[Yukiko had taken notice of a shy girl who was trying to gather up courage to give some homei chocolate to what seemed like her best friend for ten years. The only problem was that she misplaced it and Yukiko ended up finding it. The question now was to slip it into her lover's satchel or give it back to her and let her gather the courage to admit her feelings.]

But is it right...?

[ Yu had followed after Yukiko on her little mission... mostly because he was curious as to what it was all about, and what she would do about it. He wasn't surprised to see her close to throwing her hands up and going back, and he couldn't help but fold his arms over his chest, a bit of an amused look coming to his eyes. ]

Are you sure?

[Although Yukine could do little without Yato to summon him, he is still drawn to the site of the ayakashi battle. And there is no missing that. The god is actually not defenseless on her own?! Shooting fire?

That is...

SO AWESOME.

Yukine's eyes shine as he watches her elegantly fight off the ayakashi.]

That'd be cool if that useless jersey could learn to do something like that.

[(No, not really, because then he might not depend on Yukine so much. But still.)

He notices a few weaker ayakashi flee from the fire, and he sends a boarderline to cut off their escape. He wishes he could cut them down himself, but this is the best he can do for now. He looks over towards the god to check if she noticed what he did so she could finish them.]

Black Shadow
[People don't notice him, but he still stays close to the shadows, almost as if out of habit. Yuto leans against the wall, watching the streets. It doesn't bother him that people don't pay any attention to him. Actually, he's pretty content about it. He doesn't remember anything from the time when he was alive, but he probably wasn't the kind of person who liked attention.

...Though, of course you wouldn't be able to tell that by looking at him. Violet and black spiky hair alone are enough to make him stand out. The chocker around his neck, leather bands around his wrists and the long black tattered cape are another thing.

Maybe it's a good thing he isn't noticed by people. He does look like an awfully suspicious guy.]

[Yuto massages his temple as he's looking at the picture in his hand. How is he supposed to find a person knowing only how they looked like over forty years ago? They obviously must have changed too much since then.

Yuto sighs a little. Yes, he likes helping people, but let's face it. This is a little ridiculous.

...But he's already taken the request. He can't just let people down. And so, with a frown on his face, he turns around and tries to get the attention of the nearest person. This is actually his last favorite part. He's pretty happy with the fact that people don't notice him most of the time.]

...Excuse me.

[And it always feels awkward when people don't notice him right away when he actually tries getting their attention.]

[Normally, Alba would comment on how near impossible this request seems or how he has no idea where to start, but for some reason this request resonates with him. Wanting to reconnect with someone, no matter what it takes... he can't help but sympathize with that.]

I know it's not going to be easy, but I really want to help this person.

[With an earnest expression, he turns towards whoever else was considering the request-- his mind's already set on accepting this, it's just a matter of getting whoever's with him to agree.

[Man, this couple is so embarrassing Alba can barely look at them.]

...Are they wearing matching sweaters?

[Please promise this kid you didn't put anything weird in the chocolate.]

[It doesn't matter who or why someone's trying to give Alba valentine's gifts, for some reason he's visibly averse to receiving them. It's not like he wants to be, but for reasons he can't remember, he wants nowhere near the person's gift-- it's almost like an instinctual response buried deep within his psyche.]

You're giving that to me?? Really? Th-thanks..

[He wants to accept it!! Really!! Behind the terror his tone of voice implies a sense of genuine gratitude and excitement, but his body language doesn't match up at all.]

He's pretty much been dodging and maneuvering around them with little effort for the past few minutes. But he needs to make this quick and effortless so he'll hold out his hand for his shinki to materialize. ] Come, ___!

[ As with all things Arima tends to be pretty damn serious, this is no different. Especially if it's match-making and it's one of his duties. Either way he will be trying to think on and find a good way to match people up. But it's harder then it looks, given his own failings with such things. He'll be standing outside a flower shop looking through its front window with his arms crossed over his chest. Please halp him, how does he romance? He's totally not the person for this job, ugh. ]
