September Announcements
Here we are again, bringing you the news of Near and Far Shore events for the month of September!

The Near Shore
- Mid to late January is the bleakest, grayest time of year. The weather is relentlessly chilly, making this a great time to stay in and keep the kotatsu warm.
- It's a nasty year for winter colds! It seems like half the people on the street are sneezing into gauze masks behind their scarves. Help mortals get better by dropping off cough syrup and hot takeout soup, but be careful not to catch anything yourself.
- The ski season is in full swing. It's the perfect time for a day (or weekend) trip and some winter sports fun!
- It's almost the end of the season for most of Tokyo's illuminations. Thanks to a little divine help, they're all in good working order, and the beer gardens are doing a brisk business. Why not drop in before the end-of-season Valentine's Day rush for a pleasant evening viewing the lights with your friends or your date?
The Far Shore
- Snow is more frequent this month, although most days are still beautifully clear and chilly. The light dusting of snow cover brings out the aesthetics of the Heavenly gardens, and it makes great snowballs if you catch it before it melts.
- Camellias are bursting into bloom all over the Heavens as well as on the Near Shore. The showy flowers seem to spark emotion in anyone who holds them or lingers too near their trees. Yellow blossoms inspire a sense of longing for things lost, white blossoms grant patience and calm, and red blossoms inspire romantic love.
- With the cold weather, frost can be found on windows by any shinki or gods who happen to be early risers. Unlike mortal frost, the frost in the Heavens forms into artistic images, like ink paintings or calligraphed poems that melt away with the rising sun. The poems probably don't mean anything, but some of them are oddly relevant to the household they're written on.
- The spirits of wild boar seem to enjoy this time of year. With little striped piglets in tow, they're trotting down from the wilder areas around the Heavens, moving into front yards, rooting up gardens and chasing the residents. The piglets are adorable, but watch out! The grown-up pigs are fast, and strong for their size.
Noteworthy Ayakashi
- Lantern ayakashi haunt mountain snowstorms, especially in the northern prefectures. Their glowing lights and plaintive cries lure well-meaning mortals out into the storm to attempt a rescue, drawing their targets far away from warmth and safety and preying on their despair and eventual death.
- Ribbon ayakashi are tangling around unsuspecting pedestrians in the streets of Tokyo, confusing them and stoking fear and mistrust of others. Unless the ayakashi is dispelled, they will continue to draw tighter, and their targets become paranoid, even violent, as they become convinced that even their closest friends are their enemies.
Weather
- Here you can see the weather starting on January 1.
Blow Your Top
- A peaceful January is interrupted by a rumbling earthquake and the violent eruption of the volcano that experienced a smaller eruption earlier in the year. The Western District temples are menaced by ash, lava, and volcanic gases. Is this really a "natural" disaster, or is it another attempt to strike against the Heavens? Travel up the volcano's slopes, if you dare, to find out.
- IC Date: January 14 - 16
- If you have any questions, feel free to reply to the comment marked 'Event' on this post.
- To participate in the event, you will just need to comment to the event log after it goes up on September 1 at 7PM EST.
Major Events
- Last month on January 1 - 3, gods and their shinki traveled to their shrines to listen to their followers' prayers for the new year. A rash of bad luck led to the discovery of tiny cursed charms hidden around the shrines.
- On January 6, new arrivals were brought to the Meeting Hall for orientation and training, and then sent off to enjoy themselves on a beach.
Player Plots
- If your characters have been up to anything this month that other characters may have noticed -- parties, ayakashi attacks, violent rampages through the Far Shore -- leave a comment on this post to let your fellow players know what's going on!
List Mod Opening
- We're seeking a List Mod to help monitor and reply to our Canon Update and Regain pages. Interested? Contact us by PM or at godsoffortune@gmail.com to volunteer or with any questions.

Re: Event Questions
Which is to say: yes they totally can.
Re: Event Questions
What time does the earthquake happen? I don't need anything specific but, it'd be good to know if it's before or after D2 gets up at four, and if after, if it's a lot after or soon after.

They can contain private information about your characters from the silly (character A sleeps naked!) to the serious (character B's greatest fear.) Information in the poems doesn't have to be true.
