October Announcements
Here we are again, bringing you the news of Near and Far Shore events for the month of October!

The Near Shore
- School is back in session, the last festivals are coming to an end, and it's extra humid out. When will fall come and bring cooler weather?!
- Stress is building up around schools again -- keep a vigilant eye out for ayakashi that might be following schoolchildren.
- Check out the exciting new 100 Soft ice cream trucks showing up around the parks of Tokyo! 100 different soft-serve flavors in your choice of cup, regular cone, or chocolate-dipped cone.
- A few newspapers have picked up the story of a mysterious department store fire. The newly opened Yamada Department Store, which had been plagued with challenges towards the end of its construction, caught fire sometime during the night of August 24th. Due to the late hour, the only injury suffered was minor smoke inhalation by one night guardsman, but the building was completely gutted. Local authorities have not ruled out arson.
The Far Shore
- Although the storms are staying well away, the cloying humidity of the Near Shore's late summer is even extending to the Heavens. These are long, lazy, hot days!
- Towards the south side of the Western district, an unusual sight has appeared in the mountains: one of them is erupting! Lazy streams of lava are snaking down its sides, all the snow at its summit has melted, and there's a taste of sulfur and ash in the air. It's well away from any temples, new or old, but it makes an interesting sight, at least until the eruption is over again....
- Koi in the many canals and rivers around the Heavens have started a new game of splashing anyone who's crossing a low bridge or sitting by the riverside. Are those fish laughing?!
- The hot weather is making tempers short across the Heavens. Somehow, the chime of those wind bells seems to bring calm, but away from the bells -- or for gods and shinki who've taken them down for some peace and quiet -- it may seem easier than usual to pick a fight.
Noteworthy Ayakashi
- Tempers are just as short on the Near Shore as they are in the Heavens, and ayakashi are enjoying all the conflict.
- A spider ayakashi is lurking under pedestrian bridges and sending one of its baby spider ayakashi off with every passersby. People with a baby spider ayakashi attached to them slowly grow more and more irritable, hungry and tired as it feeds on their energy. Rescue the victims and slay the mama ayakashi before the whole town grinds to a halt.
- Tiny firefly ayakashi are luring late-night travelers off the beaten path... and into rivers,
over cliffs and down dangerous gorges! Help the people lost in the woods back to civilization and get rid of the ayakashi before they can claim more victims.
Weather
- Here you can see the weather starting on September 1.
Heavenly Job Fair
- What do you do when one of your followers asks for something you don't know how to do? The older gods often ask each other for help if they receive a prayer they don't have the right skills for, such as a god of studying asking a god of combat to help with ayakashi fights. In order to help the new gods settle into Heavenly society, a two-day prayer exchange fair will be held outside the Meeting Hall. Gods and shinki alike can bring prayers they can't answer, answer the prayers they can, and let the Heavens know what they can do.
- IC Date: August 30 - 31
- If you have any questions, feel free to reply to the comment marked 'Event' on this post.
- To participate in the event, you will just need to comment to the event log after it goes up on October 1 at 7PM EST.
Major Events
July Announcements | August Announcements | September Announcements |
- Last month on August 21st, gods and shinki helped a new department store battle bad luck.
- While investigating, some searchers discovered a mysterious, streaky-colored plastic altar in a locked basement room, with strange symbols on it that had been partially erased by a heat gun.
- Other searchers found small charms similar to the ones appearing during the Spirits event or signs of tampering throughout the department store.
- On August 25th, new arrivals were brought to Bishamon's temple for orientation and training.
Player Plots
- If your characters have been up to anything this month that other characters may have noticed -- parties, ayakashi attacks, violent rampages through the Far Shore -- leave a comment on this post to let your fellow players know what's going on!

questions not re: event
Also, what happens if somebody catches some of those koi to see if they really are laughing and if they can talk, beyond that?
Re: questions not re: event
If someone catches the koi, they will behave like normal fish unless/until released, at which point that person may receive a reaction ranging from having a fish make a rude "thbbbbt!" noise at them, to being thanked in perfectly understandable, if slightly water-garbled, Japanese. Their response will depend on how prompt and polite the angler was about releasing them.
question not related to event
It's only for the sake of a silly log to confirm whether a dedicated and annoying angler can get pulled into the water by something larger and stronger than regular fish
Re: question not related to event
Yes, he could encounter supernatural water creatures such as kappa hanging out in the waters in the Heavens. He'll have to be careful fighting his way free, though -- as the Goddess of Water, Suijin will be peeved if they get hurt!
