TEST DRIVE # 05



Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.



Ugly Underthings

Someone or something has been stealing underwear from various women and men. The weirdest thing about it, though, is the fact that every piece of underwear stolen and strewn about the town is absolutely hideous to look at. Maybe it's just someone with a fetish for ugly underpants? Or maybe it's something else entirely.

Validated Villain

There's talk about some masked ayakashi wandering around, led by a young girl wearing a paper crown and covered in tattoos. In fact, if you look for her hard enough, you might just come across the nora, singing to herself as she plays with the masked wolves. Otherwise, you might just encounter the wolves. It's hard to tell which is worse.

Weeaboo Weirdos

A much larger amount of American tourists are crashing down on Japan now that the summer is near, and a significant number of them are what the people back in their home country would term a 'weeaboo' - 13- to 17-year-olds who are desperate to blend in with Japanese culture and fail miserably at their attempts. You can either make fun of them or help them out, your choice.

Of course, that means that there are a large number of Japanese locals who are very put off and angry about these Americans. A fact that is becoming all the more prevalent because there is an ayakashi cloning itself and attaching to only Japanese people, turning them against the foreigners and causing a massive amount of hate, which is leading to a lot of shoving, nasty words, and a couple of impromptu, awful haircuts...

Yummy Yakitori

With so much going on, isn't it just nice to sit back, relax, and eat some delicious yakitori? This yakitori might possibly be the best you have ever eaten in your entire life! And that's not at all because it was made by a couple of Far Shore residents who have charmed it with varying results, definitely not. Hopefully the charm doesn't backfire and make you hate all other food!

[Sanae Hanekoma likes to believe himself to be an open-minded individual and whole-heartedly accepting of other people. For the most part, he is just that.

However...

He's right now trying very hard not to laugh at the American teenagers trying to "act natural." Tourist season can be both amazing and stressful, but so far it's fallen into the category of amusing.]

Kid, that's not an idiom you should be usin' on someone older than you.

[Okay, so, Sanae doesn't really appreciate people being rude to kids in general. He might mess with foreign kids, but there's a line that shouldn't be crossed. So, he decides to step in when one of the native men says something way out of line.]

Hope ya don't say that kinda stuff to your own kids in the future, pal. Just keep movin' and ignore 'em. It ain't that hard.

[He makes a shooing gesture at the mortified-looking American teenager, making sure to speak in English for their sake.]

[Now there's a face Joshua's been hoping to see. Granted, he'd been hoping to see it since he showed up in this place, but late is better than never. The icing on the cake, of course, would be Sanae not being subjected to shinki memory loss. Chances of that are 50/50, at least. And even less so if he'd managed to make it here without being drawn into shenanigans!

Only one way to find out, of course. Joshua teleports in just behind him, staying silent for just a moment. Hmm... The lack of ability to properly read him is a good indication that things might be going his way.]

He does his best to help them out, but he can't help but chuckle at a few of them. It's not like it's his culture they are trying to copy. He can be seen talking to a teen with a strange choice in wardrobe.]

[If it wasn't ayakashi related Ekko would be tempted to just let it be. It's not really his problem, after all. If the mortals want to go and get angry with each other let 'em.

But it does involve Ayakashi so of course he has to do something.]

For a moment, Speed of Sound Sonic just stands there with one hand on his hip, the other covering his mouth, trying desperately to stifle the urge to cackle himself blue in the face. It takes him a moment or two before he completely composes himself enough to walk over to a park bench and pick up a pair of mustard yellow boxer-briefs. There's a white stripe over the crotch, and a picture of a leering half-peeled banana.

He turns around, and with a completely straight face, holds up the underwear and says to the nearest person (that's you!), "Hey, are these yours?"

He was just going to mess with the damn kids, really, that's all he had in mind. But once one teenager noticed - more specifically, noticed that he was a ninja - it was only a matter of time before he was the center of attention.

He was kind of trapped after that. Not that he minded. He was having fun racing around the gathered teenagers, performing minor feats of strength, speed, and skill. Hats were stolen, backs were flipped, he did a few knife throwing tricks with his kunai, all while the teens shouted out their amazement. He spends about fifteen minutes entertaining them before disappearing in a cloud of thick black smoke.

As the crowd disappates, Sonic stretches out on the lower limb of a tree, smirking to himself in satisfaction.

As a rule, Sonic doesn't actually give a flying fuck about other people. If they're going to fight among themselves, that is as far from his problem as it gets.

But he at least takes the duty of extinguishing Ayakashi relatively seriously, so from the relative saftey of a tree's branches, he throws kunai at the replicating menance, carefully avoiding hitting the humans.

The only problem is that his kunai don't actually do much besides catch the Ayakashi's attention and make it angry. Before long, he's got a crowd of negative spirits clawing at his tree, trying to make their way up to him.

...shit.

At least they're not attacking the living any longer?

he throws a couple exploding shuriken into the crowd with a shout of "Fuck off!" like that would do anything other than rile them up even more, and curses himself. He did not think this through.

Ekko is Sonic's Shinki? He feels a little gypped at the moment- he was even right there. If they had to fight a bunch of ayakashi then he's what Sonic should be using.

He just stares at his god for a moment, half exasperated and half disbelieving.

That's pretty much the only reaction he really has when his eyes canvas the area. the whole entire street is littered with the undergarments, and Riku's frown only deepens when he nudges a pair of underpants by his foot.

A pair of underpants with a pattern of dogs wearing their own underpants. Someone must think it's funny, somewhere.]

...If this is a prank, it's a really random one.

[Or maybe a random ayakashi has a thing for underpants? Who knows. But he does not want to have to clean this up.]

[Riku's found that there are some perks in being dead. Being able to overhear things without being noticed by the general populace is one of them. It's perfect for recon, or in this case, even just helping out normal people with simple things.

Like directions for one.]

...Tokyo Tower? [He overhears a small gaggle of girls wonder where it is outloud, and points in the general direction of the landmark.] Just two streets over. Take a right turn here and--

[And that's when their full attention is drawn on him. Their eyes light up and widen with delighted gasps. To be honest, it unnerves him. A lot. He's never seen a girl react this way to him before.

And then... it starts.]

"Your hair! It's almost as long as his~!"

"You know, we can totally recreate your trenchcoat for you! It'll be a snap!"

"Oh! And and and! Attach a wing. Gotta be a one winged angel right?! It'll be perfect!"

"SEPPPHHHYYYY~KUUUUUN~! ♥"

[And that's when Riku's fight or flight response kicks in as one of the blondes just outright tries to launch herself at him. He definitely isn't going to fight against girls like these, not when they're just lost. So the best thing to do right now is turn tail and book it, only to be followed by them.

Everyone told him how hard it would be to get their attention. Now he just wants to be left alone.

...Help please? Those girls can be heard a mile away.]

[Oh sweet baby Jesus, that looks like quite the pickle Riku's gotten himself in. As much fun as he had showing off for the crowd of Narutards before, Riku's situation looks like an actual nightmare.]

[So as Riku runs past, Sonic grabs him by the back of the shirt and hauls him around the corner of a building before he or the crazed fangirls could bat an eye. The girls run past and make it half-way down the block before they realize their target has gone missing.]

Wow, I do not remember girls being that crazy when I was that age.

[Sora slowly walks over to the pile of rabid girls screaming in front of the store. Slowly, he stands on his tip toes trying to see what was going on. He was just a little curious okay…?]

[Then he's out among them, in a rather interesting form. "Sugoi! It's Magical Mary-chan! Magical Mary!" He's acquired a large crowd of weebs that are feeling at his outfit and oohing and awwing. He doesn't seem to be reacting too badly, not even when his skirt is tugged up a bit or he falls victim to the teenage weeaboo touchiness- the "glomp." Does he even need to be saved??]

Yeah, sure. [Sonic holds out the skewer of chicken out to Maimakterion without really paying much attention to him. He's got several more sticks on a plate in his lap that he's much more focused on instead of some random kid.]

[That is, he was focused on them right up until he caught something weird out of the corner of his eye, and he looked up to see Maimakterion just... engulfing the stick with his mouth.]

[In a certain part of town, the trend of ugly underwear seems to stop. Not in that there's no underwear, but that there's all kinds of underwear. Ugly, normal, risque, any and all underwear has made its home in the trees, on stoplights, or anywhere you can think of. Why? A piercing laugh answers the question.]

Aaaaaaall right, who's next?! [This part of town is now unofficially Jinx's territory. Any and all who enter face having their underwear forcibly taken. Are you here to stop her reign of terror? A shinki forced to assist? Just happened to be walking through when suddenly a set of hands are on your belt, pressing precariously downwards?]

[Jinx has taken to fixing the problem in a "Summon Bigger Fish" sort of way- in that people have a hard time arguing with each other when she's being an active threat to their peace.]

Is that better? [She laughs, coming out of a crowd that abruptly has gained neon pink hair.] If you still wanna argue, how about I... just cut it all off?! [Don't question where she got the pair of scissors from, or how she plans to shave someone with scissors, it's probably better to not know.]

[From what she knows about the ayakashi, they don't seem to like to hang out with neither Far Shore nor Near Shore residents. So when Yang spots the other girl playing with the beasts, she can't help but look at her companion, making a gesture with her hand.]

What do you think she's doing? Or hoping to do? "Hey, if you're a nice little ayakashi and roll over, I'll give you a dog treat and a belly rub"? Pfft.

[Sadly, she's not exactly out of earshot of the nora. Whoops.]

[Awww man, this is great. Yang would be double fisting these skewers if she could, but missing an arm kind of hinders a girl.

But it doesn't stop the grin off of Yang's face. There's two skewers set in between her fingers and she pulls off some of the meat with her teeth every once and a while. The only problem is that this means she's talking with her mouth full.]

Man, this food totally makes up for the dead thing. This stuff is great!

[To most people, a job like this would probably get a bit of embarrassment or at least some weird looks, but Kite does not even appear to be phased by this. He's just diligently picking up armfuls of underwear, without a single word of complaint or question.

... Although, that might also be because he's mute. But details.

If you're his shinki, you damn well better be helping, because if you're not occupied with picking them up yourself then obviously you're just waiting for him to load you up with his own findings. If you're just passing through, he might make the same mistake if you linger around him long enough. Stop staring and start helping.]

[It's difficult to overlook the disturbance—a small group of young tourists being loudly berated and harassed by another group of local kids. An obvious case of bullying.

However, Kite is more focused on the small ayakashi clinging to the shoulders of the local group's leader. He bristles, staring at it with a single intensely-lit eye, a low growl emanating from his throat like a wild animal.

Without any hesitation, he raises an arm to point at them, a massive arrangement of shimmering coloured plates appearing around his wrist. That loud humming noise it's making is, uh, probably not friendly...

This is definitely safe.]

[Kuroko, the resident expert in 'please don't do stupid things', did not agress with how safe his death weapon was. Which is why he seemed to practically materialize next to the guy with the death arm and try to lower it himself.]

[Someone help him he was having the worse case of deja-vu. It's so bad that he bent over and hooked a very bright tie-dyed pair of boxer shorts using the claws on his Greeed arm and extended it out like a cat that did not understand what was happening at all. Sure, it looked like the stuff he was use to seeing that one annoying human of his parade about in, but this was way too much. Either Eiji had managed to buy a store full of of the underwear he favored, or someone seemed to have a thing for it.

Snorting at the idea of Eiji actually buying more then a pair or two at a time, Ankh flicked the underwear off his claws. Well, more likely he just tossed it at a random passerby without even a sorry or oops before heading towards something to eat.]

[Someone just handed him a bunch of skewers covered in pieces of chicken. Usually he doesn't mind free food, the freer the better, but there was something a bit odd by this exchange. Maybe it was how the server just smiled and handed him the skewers, or maybe it was how he already was happily eating a rainbow colored snow cone and hadn't even thought to ask for some yakitori. Whatever the case, he huffed a little and just shoved the skewers at the person nearest to him.]

Here. You look hungrier then me. [At least he was attempting some politeness, even if it doesn't last long.] C'mon, take it already.

[He had seen people around with those skewers of yakitori and they did look really good. But suddenly having one shoved into his face was not exactly how he had envisioned obtaining one.]

[He reaches up and takes the skewer into his hand and moves it out of his face. Eiji wasn't going to eat it right away, not yet.]

[ this lilac-haired guy looks Massively Unimpressed by.. whatever this is. a prank, maybe?? whatever it is, there's a really ugly men's thong shaped like an elephant's nose hanging gingerly from his index finger, held as far out from his body as he can manage. his other hand holds a paper fan in front of his face, as if he can barely even stand to look at it. ]

Disgraceful. [ despite the snarl, he still manages to look and sound surprisingly elegant. he makes a dainty gesture of the hand holding up the underwear, tossing it to the side and then snapping his fan shut, tapping it against his palm. ] What hideous taste in undergarments.

[ while you're eating, hachisuka appears to be Judging You, seated primly nearby with a paper cup of tea. he doesn't look impressed by what he sees-- but then, does hachisuka ever look impressed? he can be kind of a snob sometimes. but then, given that he was the pampered blade of a well-to-do family for quite some time, that's probably only to be expected.

finally, he sets his tea down, a hand flipping the heavy length of his hair over a shoulder, the gesture as elegant as everything he does. ]

[When Eri sees the crowd of American tourists, she's hit by a sudden wave of... nostalgia? Is that what this? She's not quite sure... Her history's a blank slate but there's something almost familiar about the loud, squealing teenagers parading around in cosplay yelling butchered Japanese at each other. She watches as a number of Near Shore residents shoot them dirty looks and quietly veer their paths away from theirs.

They really don't know any better. She's certain of that and it's kind of sad watching them make fools of themselves without anyone intervening.

After a few minutes, Eri waves her hands wildly to get their attention while yelling.]

Heeeey! Hey! Hello! Welcome to Japan!

[She strides over with a bright, welcoming smile on her face. With her Japanese-American heritage, wavy red hair, cat ear hoodie, and cutesy punk clothing, Eri's exotic enough to fit right in among them.]

Hey! Not cool, mister!

[Eri takes advantage of the odd invisibility being a Far Shore resident gives her and aims a running shouler tackle at a middle-aged salaryman, knocking him down hard on the sidewalk. Her hoodie falls off during her impromptu attack, revealing her red pigtails. To American eyes, Eri looks Japanese enough but to the native Japanese, she's fairly indistinguishable from the targets of their animosity.

The weeping, trembling middle-school girl she'd just rescued stands there staring in shock so Eri yells at her.]

Don't just stand there! Run! Get yourself somewhere safe!

[The ayakashi-riddled salaryman wriggles out from underneath the girl, managing to elbow her in the mouth. Eri's brown eyes narrow dangerously and repays the favor with a rather nasty looking left-hook to the man's jaw.

Anyone not too boggled by the sight of a small, indignant, teenage girl brawling with a man twice her age in the middle of a busy city sidewalk might want to intervene before someone gets hurt.]

[Eri enunciates each syllable with shameless glee to no one in particular. It seems entirely possible that she is completely unaware of anyone's else's presence, she's that into her food. Oh, gosh, this stuff is so good! She munches on her order with gusto, cheerfully oblivious to the charm on the food. Though to those who happen to know her, it might seem just as likely that she's familiar with the charm but just doesn't care.]

So good!

[Apparently, this chick really enjoys eating. She also doesn't seem inclined to share. Any attempts at snatching any is met with a surprisingly swift and violent slap to the wrist.]

As much as Kuroko REALLY wanted to pet the wolves, he could tell from what little information he had that those were the ayakashi he'd been informed of. Unfortunately, he was just a lone shinki without a god, and frankly, not very good in a fight. The girl hadn't spotted him yet, thanks to his low presence, but he was afraid that she might do it to the person who was beginning to walk down the street.

As quick as he could, Kuroko dragged the new person away behind a bush to hide them from the strange and dangerous girl, while putting a finger up to his lips.

Kuroko was a very open-minded person and didn't really care about the kids as long as they weren't hurting anyone or getting in anyone's way. He had the view that while what they were doing was wrong, they were kids and still growing up. The adults on the other hand were physically harassing some of the kids, and he wouldn't stand for that.

Despite his low presence, he stepped between one of the adults and unfortunate kid, taking a punch to the face that was probably meant for them.

"Hey, what there, where did you-" The adults were confused for a few moments, but the ayakashi wasn't through doing its business, which just made them turn on the blue-haired boy instead.

Someone might need to step in to stop him from getting thoroughly beat up.

One thing Nagi did appreciate about being dead was that no one paid him any attention. Maybe he was always a private person. As he is now, he liked the anonymity of it, being able to slip through crowds without prying eyes following him around.

Of course, that didn't account for other Far Shore folk. Which was how he found himself nabbed wholly unexpectedly the moment he turned a corner, and dragged off behind some bush.
