TEST DRIVE # 30



Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters!
Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.

Pen vs. Pencil
Everyone is allowed a favourite! But the debate over whether pens or pencils are the superior writing tool has boiled over at one Tokyo university. Lengthy formal debates have been booked, rallies organized, and even a support march around campus set up.
Of course, ayakashi are swarming to the (oddly passionate) conflict, but is there someone, or something, behind all this? Take to the university pathways for ayakashi hunting, search for the root of the problem, or just get caught up in the debate yourself.

That poetry society is at it again! They’re out on the streets in this cool weather, this time offering freshly-baked sweet potatoes, in return for an answer to this question:

(*They reserve the right to withhold your sweet potato if you quote something dumb like a commercial jingle. This is serious research.)

Roving Ravens
A flock of ravens has made their croaking way to downtown Tokyo, where they're leaving the local crows outraged and hungry as the bigger birds steal their dinner. The ravens are harassing cats, bullying locals and tourists alike into handouts, and even working out how to rip open kitchen garbage on trash day. It's turning into a real mess! Something has to be done. Shoo away the new residents, but watch out for those sharp beaks.

Slippery Shoes
A new fad is spreading among fashionable Tokyo teens: sleek plastic shoes in bright neon colors. They're super-bright, super-trendy, and cheap enough to afford on a teenager's part-time income, but there's just one problem. As soon as they get wet, there's no traction at all! Rainstorms are turning sloping sidewalks into fashion avalanches. Can they be redesigned for safety? Or is this just a great opportunity to laugh?

Tempting Toppers
There is a variety of ayakashi that, rather than feeding of the negative emotions of humans, is feeding off cats instead. And the tastiest form of emotion for them? The disgruntlement over having to wear cute gachapon hats. The ayakashi linger near gacha machines, tempting the humans into buying the hats and distracting them from any thought of how it irritates a cat to have their ears covered. They then take up residence on the poor cat’s head along with the hat. Rescue the cats of Tokyo from this menacing-- wait, is that a bunny hat?! That’s so cute!♥ Try the pineapple hat next!

[This might seem like a problem to the people around and should be fixed.... but it also looks like fun and Roxas is watching people slipping and sliding with interest. He should be concerned that people might get hurt. Should be. Turning to the nearest person, he gives them an excited smile.]

[Vanitas grumbles at the blond, not looking too impressed. He stands a few feet behind him, hands at his sides. The shinki has been watching Roxas' failed attempts for awhile now and while his bubbling frustration as amusing, the yelling he could do without.]

You're being more of a pest than the birds are. If you really think any of that is going to work than you're dumber than you look.

Pen vs. Pencil

This probably had to be the most ridiculous thing she'd ever seen. Or so she supposed. Given that she remembered very little of her life before this place, Makoto was just going to assume that people legitimately debating on which was a superior writing tool.

For the most part, Makoto is just going to hang back and let people go about their silliness. She'd never been a big joiner as far as she knew. So for now, she's leaning up against a wall while a group of people a few feet away are engaged in a heated discussion about why pens were clearly vastly superior. Something about ink being a godsend. Who knew?


Roving Ravens

Well, this wasn't going to end well. As it was, Makoto was lurking in a doorway, trying to avoid the craziness outside. A group of cats was currently locked in battle with a handful of ravens, and honestly... the brunette wasn't even sure she wanted to get involved. Something about it just seemed wrong, and she had no idea what she'd be able to do, anyway!

She'd seen the cute, brightly-colored shoes around. In fact, they'd been around for a while, hadn't they? She'd even entertained the thought of picking up a couple of pairs for herself. The only snag in that little plan was the fact that it was hard to even find shoes in her size. And these weren't even normal shoes. It seemed like they were for a promotion or something, so it was pretty doubtful that she'd be able to find her size.

Way too bright and trendy? Those shoes might as well have Minako's name written all over them. That's Minako's personality embodied in a pair of shoes. So of course she's watching the people wearing them with great interest - and that's exactly when she notices that she's not the only one doing so.

And with how social Minako is, it only takes her a moment to slide right over to the other girl watching the people with the shoes, a big grin on her face. "You must think they look awesome too, right?"

Pen vs. Pencil
[She'd heard there was something happening at one of the Universities, so she'd made her way down to see what was going on. And all she found was some sort of protest and march on a debate over pens and pencils. Nothing really good.

So, she snatched a handful of each and lingered on the side, tossing them at a small target she'd set up to see which she could stick through some papers. It would burn time while she waited to see if any ayakashi showed up.]

And I was expecting something interesting.

Pencils - Better for Mistakes

Though Lea personally favors the pencil, he's not sure what to make of this. They're assembling floats. There's a joust with a giant pen and pencil. What the heck.

"So... We should probably stop this at the source, right?"

Craven Ravens

"Ow! Ow! C'mon, lay off!" He flicks a pie pan at a raven, but it moves out of the way and continues eating the trash as its brethren peck at him. "Hey, can I get some help?"

He's literally pleading to the heavens at this point.

Topping it Off

Lea... apparently doesn't get along with cats. He's not sure how to treat them, for one, and for two, they're incredibly annoyed and upset already. He's been scratched so many times that he looks like he's jumped through a window, and he's only on his second cat!

However, he does remove the hat, looking incredibly proud of himself. "How many more?!"

Cats in Hats

Of course Marinette had shown up to try to help the cats being targeted. There was no way she couldn't. For the most part, the others gathered here for the same purpose were doing a decent job of extracting the poor harassed kitties from their hats.

One person, though, seemed to be having a particularly rough time. So she peeled a duckie hat off the black and white baby she'd been cuddling before and then nudged it away before moving over to help the poor unfortunate soul.

"They don't like having their ears covered, so they're stressed because of that," she explained.

[ Birds. Normally, they'd probably be good eating, but these are a lot more menacing than he thought. Those beaks are pretty sharp, and while he could take care of it through a quick shapeshift and a bunch of jumping and leaping, it surely wouldn't be enough. No... he might have to ask an unusual request of the next person that comes by. Hopefully it's someone friendly, or at least, not someone who will tell him off.

Or, someone not allergic to animal dander. ]

[ Clearly, there's only one easy answer to a problem like this: one that is unusual, but somehow extremely relevant and simple for someone like him. But he doesn't like it! He doesn't have to like it. Especially when it's basically the most demeaning thing he could possibly do regarding his own people. He's not a cat, after all.

But with an assortment of hats in front of him, he has to make a choice. A really unfortunate choice. ]
