TEST DRIVE # 20



Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.



Rope bridge Rumble

An adventure park that features several scary-exciting climbs and crossings between trees using only ropes has a huge problem. The ropes are getting unexpectedly tangled up. Even worse, it sometimes happens when a customer is trying to make a crossing, tripping them up in the midst of their course! While the safety ropes have been doing their job at keeping customers uninjured, the employees are fervently praying that whatever is doing this will go away, before something worse happens.

Steady Shave

It's the height of summer, and even men that treasure their beards, mustaches and sideburns dearly are driven to get it shaved off in the name of heat reduction. Small barbershops are being overrun with customers who want it all shaved off- some even going so far as to want their head shaved bare.
Answer the barber's pleas for a couple extra hands. May they be steady.

Toil and Trouble

A performance of Macbeth is being haunted by an ayakashi causing bad luck. Props getting misplaced or needing repairs, color gels for the lights getting torn, the microphones keep kicking up feedback- The customary wish of 'break a leg' feels dangerously close to becoming real. Rescue the Scottish Play from its curse before the curtain rises!

Ubiquitous U-turns

Elementary school children go home in groups for safety. However that measure isn't helping against some children getting home very late. And none of the kids can bring themselves to say why they end up taking so many wrong turns on the way. Take up a traffic flag and your best teacher voice, and help the children find their proper way home, keeping an eye out for anything - mundane or supernatural - that might be leading the kids astray.

Violet Veranda

Cheerful violets grew unusually well this year on the college dorm veranda, to the point where the whole perimeter of the veranda is full of containers holding them. But now the flowers are nearing the end of their life, and something strange is happening to the students at the same time. As the flowers wilt and fade, so does the energy of the students living in the dorm. While it would normally be impossible to draw a connection between the two, residents of the Far Shore can see the truth- tiny ladybug-like energy-hungry ayakashi are moving from flowers to students. Take care of this however you can before the last petal falls!

Violet Veranda

[ There's a hooded, druid-like figure walking past the college dorm, that none of the residents seem to notice. At times like this, it's quite useful to not be noticed.

Caster is going from container to container, inscribing small runes on the size, which seems to revitalize the wilting flowers ]

It will buy us some time, but nothing else. [ he says to the first person to notice him ] Gotta take care of these little buggers.

[ For a druid, he sure is well adapted to modern ways of speaking... ]


Rope bridge Rumble

[ While the rope bridge probably requires some investigation, it turns out to be quite a boring task. When you happen to be another person falling onto the safety net he informs you, from the relative stability of the tree branch. ]

You're fifteenth in the row. Congratulations on not beating the bridge.

[ Followed by hiding a yawn ]


Steady Shave

[ Caster dropped his druid garb for this work, opting for a modern casual style. Black pants, a shirt that looks like a rainbow unicorn vomit and his long hair tied into a ponytail. Striking image of barber's competence and professionalism. - don't ask him from where he got his clothes, there are perks of being a FarShorer, besides he can pay when he earns the money right? ]

Maybe I should keep this as a part-time job?

[ He shoosh away a client who is now leaving with incredibly short hair, but still kind of stylishly done. ]

Would be easier if the boss didn't forget about me all the time, sheesh.

[ Of course, no one fills in the empty chair because the barber is kind of hard to notice, so Caster walks to the queue to prompt the next person in line ]

[ Anything you'd like! ]

Violet Veranda

[Berserker follows quietly along behind Caster as he fixes up the flowers, taking the time to pluck some of the healthier looking ones to add to a bouquet in progress. She always feels rather at ease around flowers, most likely for a reason she's unable to remember personally. Perhaps it's their relaxing scent. Whatever the cause, they seem to be doing a decent job at keeping a handle on her Mad Enhancement.

Unfortunately, removing the flowers from their planters does little to distract the ayakashi. Every time the bouquet gets large enough to be more attractive than the planters, a tiny swarm makes their way over to her. Sometimes they manage to wilt the flowers while she's not looking, and sometimes she screams and slams the flowers against the wall while they're crawling around on them. Either way, she has to start all over again every time.]

Uuuuuuuu...

[ Chaldea was a constant presence of other Servants, as opposed to the relative absence of them in the Far Shore. But that only means that meeting one sends "Servant's sense" into tingling.

But only when he sees ayakashi swarming to her, he can confirm with no doubt that she's another Far Shore resident. ]

Agreed. If we could just smash them it would be so much easier.

[ He turns to her and nods with an understanding, ignoring the dent in the wall. Because. Priorities. ]

So, young lady. Are you a deity? Or a shinki?

[frankensteins_moe]

[His agreement is met with an irritated growl as she tries to swat or otherwise shoo the latest little group of ladybug ayakashi away.

It's probably best to ignore the dent, yes.]

Mm, mm.

[She shakes her head at the word 'deity,' even as she whips the flowers around some more.]

Ah!

[And that's a nod at the word 'shinki.' Her facial expression hasn't changed a whole lot during all of this, though.]

[futhark]

[ Well, Caster is starting to get a hunch just what class of Servant she might be. Eloquence fits, looks... not so much. ]

So, shinki it is. [ He waves his hand as if he was drawing a line in the air ] You can make this Borderline, right? Try using it on them.

[ A helpful advice it might be, but also a curious experiment. Since the ayakashi are so tiny, could the effect of barrier actually destroy them? ]

[She's definitely an odd-looking Berserker, it's true, but the utter lack of verbal communication is a dead giveaway.]

Ah! Mm, mm.

[With two quick little nods of recognition, she steps back, planting her mace into the ground with one hand while casting the borderline with the other. The tip of her finger glows, sending the line shredding through the air toward the ladybug ayakashi on the flowers. Unfortunately, she doesn't really know how to moderate the strength of her attacks, so the line is at full power when it hits.]

[ The borderline forms blades of light that slash through air - neat! Caster is still a new god so he had no idea the lines had more versatile uses. ]

...that's impressive!

[ He claps slowly while flower petals fall around them- ah, yes, the flowers didn't survive the lines, and hopefully neither did the small ayakashi. Or maybe they just got pushed far, far away with sheer force.

Good thing they can't be fined with the destruction of collage property... ]

Hmmhmmmmm.

[There's a satisfied little hum at the compliment, though her expression does fall a bit when she sees what's become of the flowers. Kneeling down, she sadly picks up a stem with a single petal left on it and frowns.]

Uuuuu...

Shouldn't you check the ropes instead?

[Archer points out from the nearby branch. This point offers a good view of several bridges. So far no one really needs help, aside the occasional person landing in the safety net.]

[futhark]

[ Wow, someone who noticed him. And another Servant at the same time. What's with them showing up recently? Did he start a trend?

And of course, it's that one Servant. ]

And shouldn't you follow your own advice, instead of spying on hard-working people?

[ Caster was. Very Hard at work, yes. But really it's more worrying how this familiar bastard just sneaked up on him. ]

[boneofsword]

Are you talking about the personel? They work very hard.

[Archer answered with the usual amount of sarcasm. Seriously, he didn't even try to sneak around. Seeing another Far Shore resident piqued his curiosity, that's all.]

[futhark]

[ It seems he has not been recognized, but ah, it's too early to say ]

So do I.

[ He had to observe and confirm the issue, yes? No one is getting hurt, so far. He turns his attention back to the ropes, but remains on guard ]

Oh, and sixteenth! [ Someone drops into the ropes and moves to return back to the higher level. ]

[boneofsword]

[So very helpful those two. And hard working.]

And your work is?

[It's obvious that Archer doesn't recognize the other Servant.]

[ You're here for the same reason goddammit. Do you really want to hear an answer? Then sure, here it goes. Caster crosses his arms and proclaims proudl ]y

[ /sarcasm ]

Rope Bridge Rumble

Fifteenth? Man, I thought I'd at least be in the top ten! This bridge is totally cheating.

[Inanimate objects are known for their crafty, cheating ways. Also how do you get into the top ten of... people that fail at bridges? Sorry, Caster but you are not dealing with the sharpest tool in the shed.]

Can I get a do-over?

Seriously? [ That cheating bastard! ] You totally have to try again, so I can catch it red-handed...er, roped

[ Caster just grins and plays along. Without informing that it's sadly not a skill rating, so being in top-ten was possible six people ago. ]

[trapperkeeper]

Thanks! This time I'll be in the top five!

[It's fine. Explaining anything to Lann is usually a waste of time anyway. He grins and scrambles back toward the platform.]

Okay! These ropes aren't gonna know what hit 'em.

[And he carefully and sensibly makes his way across Haha no. He just rushes across the ropes same as before. Possibly he thinks this is a race.

And of course he pointedly does not bother paying attention to his surroundings. Which is why he misses the small monkey-like ayakashi tugging juuust a bit on one of the ropes. Just enough to turn it into a tripping hazard.]

There it is!!

[ The ayakashi finally reveals itself! Maybe it did not expect dropping sometimes for the second time, or maybe Lann's rushing through the bridge would make him pass it with no problem. ]

You made it into top three of stylish falls today, kid!

[ And without as much as a word of warning he draws a rune in the air, sending a small fireball right in the ayakashi's direction. Being very monkey-like it evades it, and the bridge... well it might be catching fire. ]

[trapperkeeper]

Hey, thanks! I-

[Lann appreciates the compliment. And he actually avoids the tripping hazard quite nimbly..... just in time for it to get lit on fire.]

AHH!

[With a very undignified little shriek that he will vehemently deny later, Lann leaps to a nearby rope, just barely catching it. The look he shoots Caster is somewhere between confused and affronted.]

[Although Lancer was mostly fine with how his hair looked (it was hard to be displeased), he wouldn't mind getting it trimmed up a bit today. Plus, it gives him a chance to check for Ayakashi, something he was certain his god would be proud of.

When he sees the blue haired god, he just chuckles for a moment.]

Common problem?

[He did hear you, Caster. And he's still smiling and cheerful towards you.]

[futhark]

[ Ah, here's the guy. Caster is jokingly convinced you're at fault for him being here as a "caster". You're hogging the Lancer spot for yourself! ]

More like "mild annoyance" at times. Not being noticed has its uses. [ No need for stealth for example ]

Like- we could brawl right here and right now, and it would take them whole four minutes to notice something is wrong.

[ Probably because the place would be totally trashed in those four minutes, and that would be hard to miss ]

[Hey, he has two lances, he definitely deserves the spot.]

That is true. It would make things easier. [Maybe not stealth for him. He does enjoy a fair fight.]

...Oh? Is this your way of asking for a fight?

[Hey. He's down for that.]

[ Quality over quantity, excuse u! That saying, he really should not be that stupid to pick a fight in the middle of the barbershop, when there is no real need for it. They're not really Servants here, and there is no Grail War, still-- ]

Hey, gotta see what you're made of! [ -a casual sparring with collateral damage is still something he will absolutely go for ] Spear happens to be my weapon of choice, you know?

[ And it's not here. Ugh ]

Is that so?

[Lancer lets out a bit of a chuckle at that. They can step outside, it's fine. Not like anyone is really going to notice until the shop is destroyed.]

So we'll be on fair footing?

[He's fascinated. Here he was coming for a trim, but a spar is fine by him.]

[futhark]

Absolutely. [ He's very confident in his skills and was he a Lancer he would probably add something about "sorry if I obliterate you along the way". Too bad he got incarnated here in Caster class with pathetically weak physical stats ]

You want anything done first? [ He points at the empty chair. ] I don't recommend trying one of our human barbers, or you'll end like this.

[ With a nod, he directs the attention to the customer who just steps out of the nearby chair - completely bald. There are long queues today, and Far Shore residents tend to forget what you told them in ten seconds ]
