TEST DRIVE # 20



Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.



Rope bridge Rumble

An adventure park that features several scary-exciting climbs and crossings between trees using only ropes has a huge problem. The ropes are getting unexpectedly tangled up. Even worse, it sometimes happens when a customer is trying to make a crossing, tripping them up in the midst of their course! While the safety ropes have been doing their job at keeping customers uninjured, the employees are fervently praying that whatever is doing this will go away, before something worse happens.

Steady Shave

It's the height of summer, and even men that treasure their beards, mustaches and sideburns dearly are driven to get it shaved off in the name of heat reduction. Small barbershops are being overrun with customers who want it all shaved off- some even going so far as to want their head shaved bare.
Answer the barber's pleas for a couple extra hands. May they be steady.

Toil and Trouble

A performance of Macbeth is being haunted by an ayakashi causing bad luck. Props getting misplaced or needing repairs, color gels for the lights getting torn, the microphones keep kicking up feedback- The customary wish of 'break a leg' feels dangerously close to becoming real. Rescue the Scottish Play from its curse before the curtain rises!

Ubiquitous U-turns

Elementary school children go home in groups for safety. However that measure isn't helping against some children getting home very late. And none of the kids can bring themselves to say why they end up taking so many wrong turns on the way. Take up a traffic flag and your best teacher voice, and help the children find their proper way home, keeping an eye out for anything - mundane or supernatural - that might be leading the kids astray.

Violet Veranda

Cheerful violets grew unusually well this year on the college dorm veranda, to the point where the whole perimeter of the veranda is full of containers holding them. But now the flowers are nearing the end of their life, and something strange is happening to the students at the same time. As the flowers wilt and fade, so does the energy of the students living in the dorm. While it would normally be impossible to draw a connection between the two, residents of the Far Shore can see the truth- tiny ladybug-like energy-hungry ayakashi are moving from flowers to students. Take care of this however you can before the last petal falls!

Are you talking about the personel? They work very hard.

[Archer answered with the usual amount of sarcasm. Seriously, he didn't even try to sneak around. Seeing another Far Shore resident piqued his curiosity, that's all.]

[ It seems he has not been recognized, but ah, it's too early to say ]

So do I.

[ He had to observe and confirm the issue, yes? No one is getting hurt, so far. He turns his attention back to the ropes, but remains on guard ]

Oh, and sixteenth! [ Someone drops into the ropes and moves to return back to the higher level. ]

[So very helpful those two. And hard working.]

And your work is?

[It's obvious that Archer doesn't recognize the other Servant.]

[futhark]

[ You're here for the same reason goddammit. Do you really want to hear an answer? Then sure, here it goes. Caster crosses his arms and proclaims proudl ]y

Decorating.

[ /sarcasm ]

[boneofsword]

You look decorative enough. Although I can't guess any other qualities from just looks alone. [Oh look, there's more sarcasm. Archer takes it in stride and delivers his own brand.]

[futhark]

So you just confirmed that I work hard too.

[ If he had any say in this he would definitely prefer being a bit less "decorative" and more "armored", but alas, he has to work with what he got ]

Say, you're a shinki?

[boneofsword]

Hmph.

[Archer just shrugs. That's really a far-fetched interpretation, but if it suits Caster he's not going to disagree. Not right now, anyway.]

Unfortunately I am. You?

[futhark]

"Unfortunately", hah curious wording.[ But kind of fits this guy. They never agreed on most basic principles. Not that it matters in the end. ]

What is unfortunate the most, is that you seem to be alone. [ So even if the ayakashi show-up a mismatched pair of god and not their-weapon can't do much, aside of relying the information to someone else ]

[boneofsword]

And likewise. [That's most likely the only thing they both agree on. On the other hand, Archer may have a different idea. So he adds after a small pause.]

Unless you have no objections to naming me.

[futhark]

[ This went downhill fast. ]

If it's a jest, it's in a very bad taste

[ He scoffs and returns his attention to the ropes trying to figure out where exactly the ayakashi might be at work ]

As if I'd offer for anyone else.

[Archer decides enough is enough and jumps onto the rope bridge. It seems that nothing is out there, but he intends to test it by himself. Better than trying to outsnark that blue Servant.]

[futhark]

Not my business to how many you offer your "services". [ Traitorous as they are, as long as he's not the one being betrayed, he's not really going to care about noras running around. ]

You're about to be seventeenth to fall. [ He's observing, curious if someone from Far Shore will meet the same fate as guests ]

[boneofsword]

[Archer chuckles darkly.]

Too bad that I'm merely a nameless shinki. [he does ignore the last comment on purpose, but there's something he still has to say.] So I ask you--

are you worthy to be my Master?

[futhark]

Nameless? [ Isn't that a contradiction? Doesn't shinki become what it is by being named? On the other hand, the name can be revoked--- ]

What happened to your god? Or should I ask what have you done for them to kick you out?

[boneofsword]

I suppose the god I was assigned to decided I'm not worth the effort, so I'm godless since my arrival here. [Archer shrugs and half turns to Caster.]

[futhark]

Sounds like you got the short end of the stick then. [ Okay, he can even feel a bit bad for you Archer. Just a tiny little bit. ]

But it also allows you to choose whom to serve. [ He's not entirely sure if he'd like other Servant as a shinki though. That's bound to get messy. On the other hand, he also knows all the issues that might come in package with it. ]

[boneofsword]

Getting the short end off a stick is a common occurence to me, so I'm not going to complain. [Archer shrugs as if it isn't a big deal. Well, to him it isn't.] It's finding a god that I can trust that is the problem.

[futhark]

Or you can just trust the one you find!

[ See? This can be that simple ]

[boneofsword]

[Archer shorts with disdain. He's standing still on the ropes and some of those start to twist around his ankle.] Yes, that worked so well.

[futhark]

No use in dwelling on the past when you have a problem at hand to solve.

[ The guy is an Archer, but he also uses sword. The chance he'd change into a spear after becoming his shinki is nearly zero. Yes, this is what he's concerned with when considering adopting another shinki. ]

[boneofsword]

Hmph.

[Archer seems to be ignoring the ropes, but that's not true. As soon as he feels it move he whispers incantation to check if it's a rope or ayakashi. Interesting.]

These ropes are just regular ropes, which means ayakashi responsible must be somewhere else.

[futhark]

It's good at hiding too. Can you confirm it's location from up there?

[Archer narrows his eyes, focusing on trying to spot an ayakashi. To have it mess with the ropes he must be in its sight. That means-- odd. There's a hint of movement on the branches above Caster that he can't keep in sight despite enhancing his sight.] Try above you. Just don't burn the tree.
