TEST DRIVE # 20



Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.



Rope bridge Rumble

An adventure park that features several scary-exciting climbs and crossings between trees using only ropes has a huge problem. The ropes are getting unexpectedly tangled up. Even worse, it sometimes happens when a customer is trying to make a crossing, tripping them up in the midst of their course! While the safety ropes have been doing their job at keeping customers uninjured, the employees are fervently praying that whatever is doing this will go away, before something worse happens.

Steady Shave

It's the height of summer, and even men that treasure their beards, mustaches and sideburns dearly are driven to get it shaved off in the name of heat reduction. Small barbershops are being overrun with customers who want it all shaved off- some even going so far as to want their head shaved bare.
Answer the barber's pleas for a couple extra hands. May they be steady.

Toil and Trouble

A performance of Macbeth is being haunted by an ayakashi causing bad luck. Props getting misplaced or needing repairs, color gels for the lights getting torn, the microphones keep kicking up feedback- The customary wish of 'break a leg' feels dangerously close to becoming real. Rescue the Scottish Play from its curse before the curtain rises!

Ubiquitous U-turns

Elementary school children go home in groups for safety. However that measure isn't helping against some children getting home very late. And none of the kids can bring themselves to say why they end up taking so many wrong turns on the way. Take up a traffic flag and your best teacher voice, and help the children find their proper way home, keeping an eye out for anything - mundane or supernatural - that might be leading the kids astray.

Violet Veranda

Cheerful violets grew unusually well this year on the college dorm veranda, to the point where the whole perimeter of the veranda is full of containers holding them. But now the flowers are nearing the end of their life, and something strange is happening to the students at the same time. As the flowers wilt and fade, so does the energy of the students living in the dorm. While it would normally be impossible to draw a connection between the two, residents of the Far Shore can see the truth- tiny ladybug-like energy-hungry ayakashi are moving from flowers to students. Take care of this however you can before the last petal falls!

A. Rope Bridge Rumble

[ Alibaba is not scared of heights. At least, he's pretty sure he's not. But this challenge would be enough to make anyone question that. He's carefully balanced on one of ropes that make up the bridge, trying to work his way out to where some unfortunate adventurer has gotten himself tangled and fallen, now hanging on for dear life above a frankly worrying height. ]

Why would anyone think this was a good idea? [ He's grumbling under his breath, but it doesn't stop him from taking another step out to the next rope to try and save the guy anyway. Which is when the whole bridge gives a violent shake and he finds himself gripping the handholds in a suddenly white-knuckled grip. ]

B. Toil and Trouble

[ He's perched backstage with a cart of costumes beside him and brandishing a fake sword with a mixture of curiosity and boredom. Luckily nothing too dangerous has happened - yet - but he's still here on standby just in case. ]

So who's this Mac-bath anyway? Are they important?

C. Violet Veranda

All this from these tiny things?

[ Alibaba is crouched by the flowerbed, staring at the ladybugs in surprise. Some of them are just normal bugs climbing the leaves and petals, but he can tell which ones are not what they seem, which makes sure he keeps his hands to himself instead of accidentally making contact with any of them. ]

...I guess a can of bug spray isn't going to do the trick this time, huh?

[It took awhile for Suou to find his way to the Rope bridge. The adventure park was large and how distracting no matter what direction he took. Joyous screams and laughter were making him feel a bit on edge as he couldn't help but stop and make sure everything was alright.

He comes to a stop at the Rope Bridge, staring up at Alibaba and the poor guy. Isn't he sort of making things worse? It's really hard to tell who is in need of saving. The whole thing looks weird. Should he help or just wait until Alibaba falls?]

....Are you okay?

[flamebearer]

[ Look, he was almost there and there was no way he was getting the guy untangled from the ground, what did he look like?

He doesn't take his eyes off the ropes he's trying to maneuver at the sound of Suou's voice, but there is a brief flicker of relief on his face as he makes a careful step closer to the guy and crouches down, balancing carefully on one strand of rope.

He's got this. He's totally got this. ]

Sure. This is easy. I'll have him out of this in no time.

[ See? Totally convincing. ]

[skygaze]

[Convincing, right....

Suou doesn't let his skepticism show but it's obvious he doesn't really believe Alibaba's words. He takes a few steps closer, looking up at the shinki and the person he's trying to help. Honestly it's hard to tell if Alibaba is trying to save someone or messing around. It all seems...like a lot of effort when there's an easier solution.]

Cutting the rope would be faster.

[flamebearer]

[ He resists the urge to roll his eyes. Although he does lean over slightly in order to give the other shinki a pointed Look. ]

I couldn't cut the ropes and catch him when he dropped. So make yourself useful and do the second part, would you?

[ Because at least his dagger is within easy reach in the front of his robes. Pulling it out, he deftly starts cutting through the tangle of ropes still keeping the man caught in the air - if barely. ]

[skygaze]

...

[If it wasn't for the person that needed saving, Suou would have just went on watching or walked off. But it's not the guy's fault if Alibaba has an attitude.

With a frown, Suou moves closer and stops just under the pair. He holds his arms out, ready to catch the man when he drops. It's easy despite Suou not looking that strong, the guy's weight is next to nothing for him. But he is quick to set the man down upon confirming he's alright and glances back up curiously to Alibaba.]

[flamebearer]

[ With the man now out of danger, Alibaba sheathes his blade once more before leaning forward enough to hop free of the ropes himself, showing a surprising amount of grace for someone who'd been struggling to keep his balance a few moments before. With an acrobats ease, he drops to land on the ground beside Suou before straightening once more.

He gives the man a once-over before giving him an easy, reassuring grin. ] See? All taken care of. But you might want to avoid any more rope bridges for the moment. [ Still looking bewildered and a little terrified, the man hurries off and Alibaba turns to the other shinki. ]

Something's not right here. That bridge was perfectly fine, and then it wasn't.

The play is named after him.

[ So, yes. He would be important. ]

[flamebearer]

[ Alibaba pauses mid-sword thrust to cast a sideways glance at the other guy, expression mildly curious. ]

Well, yeah, but why's he important? What did he do? Was he a hero here?

[gottastaycalm]

Yare, yare.

You really are uncultured. He's the cursed King.

[flamebearer]

Cursed? [ He ignores the 'uncultured' part. That might be true - it's not like he can remember, after all, but he's pretty sure he's never heard of this King anyway. ]

Why was he cursed? Cursed with what?

A

[freezetheheavens]

[Toushirou is enjoying his time in the sky, usually the faster way for him to travel and inspecting the area around here.

What he doesn't really expect is seeing Alibaba trying to reach the guy.]

...Do you need any help?

[flamebearer]

What would make you think that?

[ The answer is laughed, but belied by the fact that he's still got a death grip on the safety ropes. Also he probably meant that to sound more convincing for the poor guy caught in the tangle of ropes than by the god overhead.

The bridge gives another nauseating lurch, as if being swung by an invisible hand or a strong breeze, even if the leaves in the trees didn't react to anything. ]

....Okay, maybe. Another set of hands might be useful here.

[freezetheheavens]

[Raising an eyebrow, he gives a nod and moves with shunpo, appearing beside the man in need of help and grabbing hold of the back of his shirt before disappearing and soon reappearing with him on safe ground, dropping him there.

As soon as he's safe, he turns to Alibaba.]

Can you get back here on your own?

[flamebearer]

[ Alibaba watches, relieved that the man is safe, and he turns to answer the god's question. But just then the bridge gives a sudden, angry lurche and he yelps, tightening his grip.

Eyes darting around, as if looking for the source, what he instead finds is the sudden snap of hemp and twine as one of the thick support ropes directly ahead of him starts to crumble and unravel. ]

[freezetheheavens]

[....Shit.

Toushirou moves quick, mostly to grab Alibaba and transporting him to safety before he ends up falling. He appears with the other on safe ground, but his eyes are focused on the crumbling ropes.]

[flamebearer]

[ Alibaba gives a yelp when he's grabbed, but still, being teleported away is much preferable to falling. And while he looks a little shaken, he's more bewildered by what he'd just seen happen. ]

Thanks for that. [ He jabs a finger at the rope bridge, shooting a worried glance sideways at the god. ] That shouldn't have done that. It was solid and strong when I tested it before stepping out.

Ah! Yes! He's the main character of the play, and I've heard about it..... apparently his dad died and his uncle married Macbeth's mother! A betrayal...

[ chika..... no. ]

[flamebearer]

[ Alibaba blinks at this explanation, lowering the fake sword he'd been dueling with. ]

That sounds terrible! Why would they make a play about that??

Probably not.

[Alex chuckles as she crouches down next to him.]

But holy water should work.

[She holds the spray bottle she has up to him.]

[flamebearer]

Holy water?

[ He echoes her skeptically for a moment before he accepts the spray bottle curiously. It doesn't look very holy. ]

Do I just need to spray them? Will that kill them?

[sing_for_me]

Yes, water blessed at temples.

[At least that's what she remembers.]

It'll keep them away from the plants at least. They don't like it. And if they touch you, you can just spray some on you.

They must be, if the play is named after them. Whoever wrote it probably wouldn't do that if they were unimportant.

[ That being said, he has absolutely no idea who this Macbeth person may be, either. ]

Well, they could be made up too, couldn't they? Don't people sometimes do that for plays? [ He's not really an expert on this, he's pretty sure. He does lower the practice sword and glance over at the other man, however. ] You don't know who it is, either?

That's true, there is a possibility of that. [ His mind just doesn't instantly jump to that conclusion, so he must be more used to the historically inspired ones. ] I don't, no. It is an unusual name.
