TEST DRIVE # 20

Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.

Rope bridge Rumble

An adventure park that features several scary-exciting climbs and crossings between trees using only ropes has a huge problem. The ropes are getting unexpectedly tangled up. Even worse, it sometimes happens when a customer is trying to make a crossing, tripping them up in the midst of their course! While the safety ropes have been doing their job at keeping customers uninjured, the employees are fervently praying that whatever is doing this will go away, before something worse happens.

Steady Shave

It's the height of summer, and even men that treasure their beards, mustaches and sideburns dearly are driven to get it shaved off in the name of heat reduction. Small barbershops are being overrun with customers who want it all shaved off- some even going so far as to want their head shaved bare.
Answer the barber's pleas for a couple extra hands. May they be steady.

Toil and Trouble

A performance of Macbeth is being haunted by an ayakashi causing bad luck. Props getting misplaced or needing repairs, color gels for the lights getting torn, the microphones keep kicking up feedback- The customary wish of 'break a leg' feels dangerously close to becoming real. Rescue the Scottish Play from its curse before the curtain rises!

Ubiquitous U-turns

Elementary school children go home in groups for safety. However that measure isn't helping against some children getting home very late. And none of the kids can bring themselves to say why they end up taking so many wrong turns on the way. Take up a traffic flag and your best teacher voice, and help the children find their proper way home, keeping an eye out for anything - mundane or supernatural - that might be leading the kids astray.

Violet Veranda

Cheerful violets grew unusually well this year on the college dorm veranda, to the point where the whole perimeter of the veranda is full of containers holding them. But now the flowers are nearing the end of their life, and something strange is happening to the students at the same time. As the flowers wilt and fade, so does the energy of the students living in the dorm. While it would normally be impossible to draw a connection between the two, residents of the Far Shore can see the truth- tiny ladybug-like energy-hungry ayakashi are moving from flowers to students. Take care of this however you can before the last petal falls!

[ Look, he was almost there and there was no way he was getting the guy untangled from the ground, what did he look like?

He doesn't take his eyes off the ropes he's trying to maneuver at the sound of Suou's voice, but there is a brief flicker of relief on his face as he makes a careful step closer to the guy and crouches down, balancing carefully on one strand of rope.

He's got this. He's totally got this. ]

Sure. This is easy. I'll have him out of this in no time.

[ See? Totally convincing. ]

[Convincing, right....

Suou doesn't let his skepticism show but it's obvious he doesn't really believe Alibaba's words. He takes a few steps closer, looking up at the shinki and the person he's trying to help. Honestly it's hard to tell if Alibaba is trying to save someone or messing around. It all seems...like a lot of effort when there's an easier solution.]

Cutting the rope would be faster.

[ He resists the urge to roll his eyes. Although he does lean over slightly in order to give the other shinki a pointed Look. ]

I couldn't cut the ropes and catch him when he dropped. So make yourself useful and do the second part, would you?

[ Because at least his dagger is within easy reach in the front of his robes. Pulling it out, he deftly starts cutting through the tangle of ropes still keeping the man caught in the air - if barely. ]

...

[If it wasn't for the person that needed saving, Suou would have just went on watching or walked off. But it's not the guy's fault if Alibaba has an attitude.

With a frown, Suou moves closer and stops just under the pair. He holds his arms out, ready to catch the man when he drops. It's easy despite Suou not looking that strong, the guy's weight is next to nothing for him. But he is quick to set the man down upon confirming he's alright and glances back up curiously to Alibaba.]

[ With the man now out of danger, Alibaba sheathes his blade once more before leaning forward enough to hop free of the ropes himself, showing a surprising amount of grace for someone who'd been struggling to keep his balance a few moments before. With an acrobats ease, he drops to land on the ground beside Suou before straightening once more.

He gives the man a once-over before giving him an easy, reassuring grin. ] See? All taken care of. But you might want to avoid any more rope bridges for the moment. [ Still looking bewildered and a little terrified, the man hurries off and Alibaba turns to the other shinki. ]

Something's not right here. That bridge was perfectly fine, and then it wasn't.

[Watching the man go, his eyes shift over to Alibaba and then up to the bridge thoughtfully. Some of the employees seem to be fretting over the now-damaged bridge.]

Wouldn't it be best to take the whole thing down?

[Cut down the rope bridge completely. No Bridge, no problem]

Maybe. [ That still sounds skeptical, and he gestures to the rest of the adventure park, expansive and stretching a great distance through the trees and structures around them. ] But what about the other bridges? The log posts? This is a big park, and it's a business. They need them up to stay open. Taking it down's not going to fix the problem. We have to figure out why it's doing this. Or what is.

[Still seems like a lot of running around when there's a easy solution in front of them. Suou doesn't know businesses that well but Alibaba makes a good point that he doesn't argue. Instead he looks back up to the bridge thoughtfully]

Did you see or feel anything weird up there?

[If they can just figure out what is causing it then they can take care of it. The "That bridge was fine, and then it wasn't" is too vague.]

It felt like there was a strong wind, but none of the leaves moved. Only the bridge. it almost felt like a giant hand was rocking it. [ He frowns, shaking his head. ] But I didn't see anything.

[Suou lifts his hand and points to the bridge, looking at the fellow shinki. Up for round two, Alibaba?]

Let's bring it back out then.

[ Alibaba blinks when Suouh points to the bridge and gives him a pointed look, although he's quick to pick up on the meaning.

He makes a face. ]

Why am I playing the bait? [ It's grumbled in exasperation, but he doesn't hesitate as he makes his way back towards the planks that form a ladder back up the tree. ]

[It was attracted to Alibaba before so maybe he can recreate what happened better. The question doesn't get an answer and the other shinki is heading back up anyway. Suou stays put, silently watching. He looks left and right, there really isn't anything abnormal around and it's strange that whatever is doing this is only currently effecting the bridge.]

[ Alibaba hesitates at the top, glancing warily at the bridge, because he's really not looking forward to being back out there on uncertain footing. But after taking a deep breath, he starts working his way out onto the mangled bridge once more, hands gripping tightly, just in case. ]
