Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:
1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

Echoing Endlessly
Many people in the area are complaining about a strange echo following them around. It never seems to go away and, in fact, collects more and more echoes with each passing moment, creating a cacophony of sound. There have been reports of a few people slowly going crazy because of this echoing. It's your job to find what's causing it and put an end to the echoes!
The new craze has swept over the city! Everything French is so in right now, and everyone wants something newer and Frenchier to make them stand out from the crowd. Just your luck, you happen to have something very French you can peddle - or maybe you can convince someone just how French your very Japanese things are!
A very strange old shinki has left you with a very simple request: guard this door and don't let anyone through. It looks like a totally normal door on a totally normal house! You might be curious to peek through it, but it's locked and you were told not to go through yourself either...
There's an ayakashi roaming around that is literally just hundreds of hands that randomly grab people and things and move them around before disappearing. The odd thing is that they are... actually doing good things? Maybe it's a scheme to suck people into a plagued afterlife without being caught, or maybe they just really want to help people out.
There's a certain street in the downtown area that has some of the craziest rumors being spread about it. Apparently going down this street will just bring you back to the entrance, but when you turn around to head back you'll only find yourself at the entrance again. Moreover, there are a lot of creepy things that whisper and appear as you walk, more with each turn you make...

If you're uncertain about anything, feel free to check out the Premise, Rules, and FAQ posts. And don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have on the FAQ!
When and if you're ready to join the game, check out the Taken Characters before throwing in a Reserve and starting on your Application
Have fun!

Even if you're small, I don't usually make a habit of carrying men in my arms.

If ya wanted to get close to me, friendship was sure to take its course sooner or later. [Just saying... pressed up against his back is still pretty dude-on-dude, friend.] Are we at an impasse already?
no subject
It would go against my moral code to leave you behind. [And that would sting Yona... not that he'd think about it anyway. So here, scooping Hazel up.]
Does this suit you, princess? [Is he happy enough, can he jump]
no subject
It's Hazel, if ya don't mind. Let's not stand here collectin' dust.
no subject
[Not a bad name. Here they go, he jumps, a lot higher than he needs to, definitely on purpose— but worry not, they land gracefully on one of the tallest rooftops along the street, and Jae-Ha is quick to set him down gently with a smile.]
It's nice to meet you. My name is Jae-Ha. It seems we're temporary partners. [Friendship?? Friendship.] Now then, let's see if we can get a better look at things from here.
no subject
[Except birds. Anyway, he doesn't hesitate before walking right over to the roof's edge to peer down.]
Ya don't happen to have magic eyes on top of magic feet? [magic feet........]
no subject
[Don't talk about feet, that's not beautiful. Magic doesn't pass, either... But he'll work with this sass as he steps over to the edge of the roof and peers down.]
If an ayakashi truly is behind all of this, won't it be easier to see any strange behavior from above? Movement that doesn't belong to a human, or a person behaving strangely... Well, either way, I happen to like the breeze.
[Jae-Ha... is he even really helping?? Does he know what he's doing? No, he's following pirate instinct.]
no subject
[WELL, that's fine. That will have to be fine, now that they're up on a rooftop and this man is probably his only hope of getting down quickly.]
Puttin' that aside for now, [weird leggie guy] why don't ya have a look at that end of the street? It doesn't look like it's goin' through a loop from up here, does it?
no subject
[Don't be rude, he's not a weirdo at all. But that's a good point. He'll glance down the street to the end.] Hmm, so it doesn't. From the ground, it hadn't seemed off until you were pulled to the start again, either.
[So what is it? He covers his mouth with his hand as he thinks. After a moment, he casually pulls a kunai out of nowhere with his free hand.]
I wonder if an object would pass through on its own? [Should he really just be chucking weapons freely, maybe not]
no subject
How many of those are ya willin' to spare?
[LOOK, they're... not his weapons, so whatever. Throw them everywhere.]
no subject
[So, he throws it. And... well, from up here, it's a little easier to see the strange distortion in that exact area as the knife vanishes and appears back at the front, dropping onto the ground and losing momentum.]
Ah, so our culprit must be close to the end of that spot, I'd think! You know, if we stand around long enough, it may just become eager enough to greet us.
no subject
It ain't really our business anymore, is it? We're already up here.
[They could just go, over the rooftop down into the next street, away from whatever's controlling that one end of one street. It's not important in the grand scheme of things... but also, it pisses him off.]
But I can't take kindly to a mysterious somethin' tryin' to make a fool out of me. Let's try goin' for it from up here.
[He doesn't wait for Jae-Ha, already turning on his heel to march off along the rooftop toward whatever's roughly parallel to that spot.]
no subject
[Jae-Ha runs after him for a few steps, his hands raised to get him to pause.] We should exchange a bit more information first, shouldn't we? Are you a god or a shinki?
no subject
This coulda been done while walkin'. I'm a god.
no subject
[See, he needed to stop him for this! He place a hand on his shoulder again as he walks up because he's too handsy, glancing down into the street.]
I can at least draw a barrier, so try to stay long distance if you can.
[He doesn't even know if this can WORK]
no subject
Alright, we'll do it your way. [This while he brushes that hand off. Be useful, not grabby.] Let's see this barrier.
no subject
[Hmm, how does he do it again... He raises his hands to try and make the symbol.]
It was something like this, and then... haa... [He draws a line in the air and nothing happens.
After smiling at that for a bit, he waves it off and starts walking towards the spot again.] Well, I'm sure it will work better in combat!
jae-haa
Half a minute, now I'm startin' to rethink rushin' into things with just you!
jae-haa...fuck
[They can go about this plan normally, safely— something causes the building they're standing on top of to rumble, and Jae-Ha has to put his arms out to keep himself stable, glancing down at the street.
Ah. They've stood here too long, so it's gotten restless. It should show itself soon, then...?]
It's too late to rethink.
uses this stupid dramatic icon
It's too late to rethink indeed.]
Not too late to get off this damn roof before it kills us. Come with me, this time.
[He's not going to stand here and wait for a big monster or whatever to pop out of a falling building, if these tremors keep it up. He reaches for Jae-Ha's wrist, to make a run for the edge of the roof, at which point he is not going to be any help, but he's also not going to wait to be princess carried before just making a leap across to the next roof, which is mercifully lower than this one.
He won't stick the landing but he will roll away for a couple yards. Hat is yet again secure.]
stop GRABBING THE HAT
It growls before it even shows itself, low and loud enough to shake even this roof a bit, as well.]
I'm beginning to think we're unprepared for this.
[A little ayakashi might have been doable between a stranger god and a stranger shinki, but something that sounds so large? Hmm. He skids to a stop next to Hazel to make sure he's getting up well enough. Come on, should he really be the one saying "come with me" when they're making jumps like this?]
can't
You know what's charmin' about you? Ya keep sayin' the most obvious things.
[He means that... in the nicest way... Now that he's hauled himself to his feet and done a cursory brush at his clothes to shake off the most obvious of the dirt, he looks back at the other building. Are even the windows rattling?]
Why don't ya give that barrier another try?
no subject
[He seems oddly excited about that, grinning at Hazel as the buildings around them continue to shake. Alright, alright, a barrier... He should very much try it now, as the roof they were on just moments ago is beginning to crumble. Something must be breaking through it.]
Go on ahead while I try it.
[He'll be serious for this moment, he supposes. Jumping back a ways to give Hazel some distance to run, he does the proper gesture with his hand this time, running to draw the largest barrier he can manage across the roof they're currently on. This time, it works, since the large thing that breaks out from that poor house tries to reach for or past Jae-Ha and only collides with it with a hiss.]
Oh, it worked! [Hooray, he'll stand here pleased with himself for just a moment.]
no subject
Well, he doesn't need to be told twice to hightail it out of there, although he does keep an eye over his shoulder on Jae-Ha trying to do his barrier. He's glad it worked, this time, but- is the man seriously just standing there?
For god's sake. Jae-Ha only gets so long to admire himself before Hazel is back and yanking on his arm again.]
Don't be an idiot. Get yourself killed on your own time!
[COME ON... CHRIST]
no subject
Your worry is very touching, but didn't I tell you to run ahead? [He would have caught up, goodness. As it is now, the barrier is definitely being tested. A glance back tells him that whatever this ayakashi is, it's not human shaped, and has a few too many limbs...
The barrier breaks shortly after. Ah, they're making a mess of this street— he pulls away from Hazel just long enough to draw another barrier, and this time he's in more of a hurry to rush to Hazel's side. It's probably a bad idea for them to linger around here if they can't actually fight it. Better to have it in hiding than destroying an entire street.]
I think we'll have to become friendly again. [That's the first warning he gets, and the second is a hand on his shoulder before Jae-Ha scoops him up again, if he doesn't make it too difficult.]
