January Announcements
Here we are again, bringing you the news of Near and Far Shore events for the month of January!

The Near Shore
- October is here: autumn chill is in the air, the trees are changing colors in the north, and harvest festivals are kicking off in rural towns.
- A pair of harbor seals has turned up near the mouth of the Arakawa River in Tokyo. Locals are vying for a sighting of the two unusual visitors, and enterprising vendors are selling adorable stuffed seals to the crowds. See if you can catch a glimpse -- but do these finned tourists need to go back to more congenial seas up north?
- Can you hear me now? Cell phone competition has taken a new turn with a guerrilla advertising campaign involving dogs who do tricks when they hear commands through the smartphone on their collar. It's adorable, but surely they're violating leash laws?!
- After all the unrest, Crazy Cats have a real PR problem, and many Tokyo schools have banned them in the classroom. There are a lot of unhappy student collectors as a result. The students want help getting their confiscated treasures back (though someone should make sure they're ayakashi-free) and the teachers want them to learn to follow the rules!
The Far Shore
- The weather in the Far Shore remains comfortably warm and all the trees verdant. Some of the old gods' temples are decorated for harvest festivals (especially those who farmers often pray to for good harvests) although there are no public decorations.
- The white-robed shinki are still patrolling. After the problems with the toy ayakashi, they're better armed, with swords and pikes that are well-kept but also clearly well used.
- Even though it still feels like summer, flocks of autumn geese have moved into the rivers and canals around the Heavens. The poetic koi, offended, are keeping their heads down while the squawking intruders paddle above and steal all their bread crumbs.
- Whoever has been making those shuffling and thumping noises behind the locked door in the Library has gone mysteriously silent. It's still locked, though.
Noteworthy Ayakashi
- A puppeteer ayakashi has taken up residence in a sea cave near a popular Chiba beach. Strange lights and sightings of what look like swimmers in distress are sparking ghost stories and luring the occasional helpful passersby too close to dangerous currents and high tides.
- The lofty supports of elevated train rails are providing a home for colonies of swallow
ayakashi. They flit around the tracks and through the stations, with their mournful cries inflicting intense homesickness and melancholy on any passenger who overhears them.
Weather
- Here you can see the weather starting on October 1.
Autumn Reception
- A few days before the end of the month, elaborately calligraphed invitations marked with a golden chrysanthemum will appear at the door of every god in the Heavens, old and new. They read,
- IC Date: Sept 30
- If you have any questions, feel free to reply to the comment marked 'Event' on this post.
- To participate in the event, you will just need to comment to the event log after it goes up on January 1 at 7PM EST.
In appreciation for your efforts, you and your retinue are invited to attend a banquet at the Meeting Hall at 6 PM, September 30. Formal dress recommended.
It's a party! Time to brush off your nicest clothes (and get some dancin' shoes) and go see what the Heavens have in store.
