TEST DRIVE # 22



Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.



Buttered Buns

Things are tough for small bakeries in huge cities. It seems like there’s always a bigger chain offering less expensive breads around the corner. To compete, “Four Clover” bakery has gone all-in with a campaign to attract customers, and you’re here to help. They’ve put together a mascot costume for you (degree of cuteness up to player’s imagination), printed a zillion flyers, blown up bunches of balloons… and in praying for the success and prosperity of their store, they’ll certainly go along with whatever heaven-sent ideas come along.

Copious Copies

Outdoor art exhibitions take advantage of the best days of the start of fall. In one large park, a multitude of unique bronze and ceramic statues are on display. However, there’s way more of them than there actually should be. The artist and organizers are stumped by a plethora of near-perfect copies standing alongside the originals. Should a god or shinki get close enough they’ll be able to tell which are ayakashi pretending to be statues, but don’t get your nose bitten off. And don’t break an actual statue while hunting the ayakashi. Please.

Debt Diversion

Formula car races are huge draws for those who love speed, and those who love betting. Snake skeleton ayakashi are twining themselves around the necks of betters, whispering in their ears to seduce the humans into crippling debt.
While gods and shinki are in a human’s blind spot and generally go unnoticed, trying to remove an ayakashi from someone might draw attention, depending on how you go about it. And in a crowd this large, there just might be a human who will notice a strange pair trying to do something to someone else’s neck...

ESP and Extraterrestrials

A group approaches you. Some of them look relatively normal, if a bit on edge. Some of them look the very image of a nerd. And all of them are looking at you intently. This group of searchers of the paranormal have somehow (accurately) honed in on you, and are intent to find out everything about you. What planet are you from? What’s up with those clothes? That hair? Do you have any special powers?!
While they welcome you in peace, they are also very unwilling to let this interview end with your escape… Might need a friend to help you out (or throw you to the wolves).


Fashionable Frills

Fashion runway. Frills. Shirts, pants, dresses, underwear; the changing room is full of variety.
Go strut your stuff.
It’s for a good cause, honest.

[ It should be exclusive, but they both sound enough alike. It must mean the same thing! His words are probably falling on deaf ears, being a shinki, but Rin is confident in his cooking skills. He gives the baker an awesome accident in the kitchen that becomes a new feature item in the bakery. It's a stroke of genius that will surely stave off the competition.]

The New Five Alarm Chili Bread Bowl! Try it! Party in you mouth! Contents might be hot and could destroy the roof of your mouth! Step right up! Step Right up!

Copious Copies

This shit is gettin' annoying!

[ Rin groans. He can't tell the difference between which statute is real or fake. The copies are pretty good. So convincing that it fries Rin's brain trying to figure out the puzzle. If even the artists can't distinguish their own work, then there's only one way. Destroy them all?

At least it doesn't start that way. Rin is adamantly trying not to destroy the artist's work. Though the ayakashi manage snip and snap at him. Leaving him with bruises all over his arms and face. And one thing leads to the next, his hand swinging back abruptly, and knocking over one of them. The sculpture hits the floor with a crash, creating a domino effect.]

SHIT! SHIT! SHIT!

[Rin watches in horror as the pieces knock into each other, shattering on the hard floor. He sees the ayakashi vacating from space as the destruction continues. Then everything quiets, settling along with the dust in the air. The ex-wires stands there in embarrassment.]

My bad....but at least we found the fakes.

[ That's basically it but at the very least he's not being looked at like some sort of specimen, even if this new face is rather curious to why a stuffed animal is talking so much smack. ]

I'd like to see you do that. Perhaps, I'll be more inclined to believe it. They're annoying but harmless, I suppose.

[ as the group of nerds were very displeased that their toy was taken from them. Look-- he's even walking off casually with the stuffed dog and no one is trying to stop him. ]

[ Even this lowly a door may be visited by Shikyoin Hibiki if she needs a prop for posing. Let that be an inspiration for us all.

She turns and heads inside, towards the group. ] Move. You're picking his outfits wrong.

[ Oh, she'll save you, all right. From everyone else's incompetence!

[This stuffed toy has the skills to talk smack. Though his opportunity to make good on his threat is diminishing as he's carried away.]

[Waves one of his arms behind him. Then crosses both arms over his chest.]

[And then the small teen was dragging Shin-ah with him, diving straight into narrower side streets where these assholes wouldn't be able to find them. The good thing about his own eyes was that seeing through walls could be really handy in a place like this.]

I can see them if they try and follow us.

[What the hell. Why does this person have a purple horse. Where did they get a purple horse.

For a moment, Clair is as stunned as her fans as they all turn to gaze upon the regal young person (and his purple horse). Clair is the first to recover.]

A lady is never strained and always enacts her wrath within her means. [One of the smarter searchers takes a step back from Clair.] Now, a young [...] person shall escort a lady from the scene.

[Takuma was supposed to be helping, but Rin was moving around in too much of a frenzy to really be able to get in there. So he just watched. Maybe he would succeed! He looked gung-ho enough to!

He...kind of did.

He hadn't made any motion to actually stop the domino effect because, well, there wasn't all that much he could do.]

Ah. You broke them all. We're in trouble~ Unless I leave really quickly.

If you'd like I can return you to them. Though, I can't imagine what sort of experiments they'd want to perform on such a unique creature as yourself.

[ He chuckled as he continued to walk. ]

In any case, such things could cause ruckus and I'm not interested in being caught in the crossfire mister stuffed dog.

[ Mikoto stands behind him, gold eyes settled on the familiar face. He'd seen it far too often after first naming Izumo. The face of the man that killed his shinki. It was all that it took for the Red King to keep himself from burning him alive on the spot. ]

[ Well no, but at the very least he's not sticking needles through him. That's a plus-- right? ]

Are you certain? I wouldn't mind presenting you to them if that's what you want.

[ Very much so-- that's why Ichiru feels a little like a bully. ]

I suppose I should have but I thought it was a rather interesting situation. I didn't expect it to be a talking-- stuffed animal. Are you perhaps not human? Not that it would matter here. This is the land of the passing after all.

[He did get a little carried away. Okay, maybe he went a little far! Though there's resolution, so everything else should fall into place, right?]

[On Second thought, running sounds like an awesome idea. So Rin decides to give himself a head start.]

[ Zero stares down at the array of broken statues and just stares at the person amid the wreckage ]

What kind of klutz are you?

[Takuma follows quickly behind him because there was no way he was going to clean up this whole mess by himself.]

[Unlike Mikoto, Yukari doesn't recognize him at all. His memories of his life have mostly disappeared. Though Yukari is still a good judge of character, and he can tell that Mikoto is strong just by looking at him. Though they were in the same predicament, so he doesn't seem like a threat right now.

The swordsman raises an eyebrow at the other, finding Mikoto's words interesting.]

Oh, can you? And how would you do that?

[lionhearrt]

[ Rather than answer him with words, he shows him. He slips the cigarette from his mouth while a red aura suddenly spills onto his hand engulfing it in an all consuming red flame that turns the stick not to ash, but to nothing. No remnants of it remain as the flame disappears and Mikoto pockets his hand. ]

[Rin definitely doesn't want to clean up his own mess either. Even if he is the caus of it! He expects his God to receive their thanks,and perhaps some kind of compensation for services.

He turns to Takuma as they flee the scene. Giving his accomplice a incredulous look.]

Huh? Something lame like makes you feel like a delinquent! You need to live more! There's way cooler things to do! Like skipping school, and beating up bullies in the back alleys. That kinda thing!

[Don't give him that look, Zero! It's not like he did it on purpose...and maybe it was a little fun. Though definitely not on purpose!]

What? This is considered lame? You just destroyed someone's hard work! Countless hours of talent and ambition went into the artwork. I think this is pretty extreme!

Skipping school actually sounds lackluster in comparison.

[But he's not the delinquent type. He definitely doesn't look like a delinquent type either. If he was into delinquency, then he would be into something like organized petty crimes. Teasing people doesn't count.]

[ Yata had been wandering past when he heard the sudden rush of questions, people crowding close around one uncomfortable looking... was that another shinki? Skidding to a stop on his skateboard, Yata pauses to listen in and doesn't like any of what he hears.

Which is why he pushes off with one foot and sends himself skating right into their midst, putting himself between them and the guy who was looking very backed into a corner. Despite being considerably shorter than everyone else crowded around the guy, he's on a skateboard and a baseball bat over one shoulder and has a dangerous look on his face. ]

Oi, assholes, beat it! Pretty sure your crazy convention is another three blocks away. Leave him alone.

[Yukari watches the red aura take form within Mikoto's hand, covering it, but not burning him at all. It does incinerate the cigarette, leaving nothing behind. The Green clansman admires it for what it is, something in his mind blocking Yukari from fully recognizing the aura and it's danger. Or even what it means to him being an opposing force to this flame.

Being so close, he could feel the heat radiating off the flame, and there's a caution that his body gives that alerts him that he can be burned by such a fire. Still Yukari maintains his beautiful mask, seemingly unfazed by Mikoto's display.]

That was really pretty. That's an amazing gift you have. Are you sure you wouldn't mind using your power to destroy these gaudy clothes? It seems so wasteful now.

[stunninglady]

[That's one idea, certainly.

Clair takes Hibiki's hand elegantly, nodding her head gracefully in thanks... And then her grip becomes much more firm, she raises one foot to the nearest stirrup and grabs a hold of the saddle to briskly hoist herself up to sit behind Hibiki, like a normal person who knows how to sit in a saddle. Nudge up, Hibiki, make room for the lady.]

My most sincere gratitude! [...] Would you like me to take the reigns?
