Test Drive #22

TEST DRIVE # 22

Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.

Buttered Buns

Things are tough for small bakeries in huge cities. It seems like there’s always a bigger chain offering less expensive breads around the corner. To compete, “Four Clover” bakery has gone all-in with a campaign to attract customers, and you’re here to help. They’ve put together a mascot costume for you (degree of cuteness up to player’s imagination), printed a zillion flyers, blown up bunches of balloons… and in praying for the success and prosperity of their store, they’ll certainly go along with whatever heaven-sent ideas come along.

Copious Copies

Outdoor art exhibitions take advantage of the best days of the start of fall. In one large park, a multitude of unique bronze and ceramic statues are on display. However, there’s way more of them than there actually should be. The artist and organizers are stumped by a plethora of near-perfect copies standing alongside the originals. Should a god or shinki get close enough they’ll be able to tell which are ayakashi pretending to be statues, but don’t get your nose bitten off. And don’t break an actual statue while hunting the ayakashi. Please.

Debt Diversion

Formula car races are huge draws for those who love speed, and those who love betting. Snake skeleton ayakashi are twining themselves around the necks of betters, whispering in their ears to seduce the humans into crippling debt.
While gods and shinki are in a human’s blind spot and generally go unnoticed, trying to remove an ayakashi from someone might draw attention, depending on how you go about it. And in a crowd this large, there just might be a human who will notice a strange pair trying to do something to someone else’s neck...

ESP and Extraterrestrials

A group approaches you. Some of them look relatively normal, if a bit on edge. Some of them look the very image of a nerd. And all of them are looking at you intently. This group of searchers of the paranormal have somehow (accurately) honed in on you, and are intent to find out everything about you. What planet are you from? What’s up with those clothes? That hair? Do you have any special powers?!
While they welcome you in peace, they are also very unwilling to let this interview end with your escape… Might need a friend to help you out (or throw you to the wolves).

Fashionable Frills

Fashion runway. Frills. Shirts, pants, dresses, underwear; the changing room is full of variety.
Go strut your stuff.
It’s for a good cause, honest.

[He wouldn't use his powers on civilians like this-- they didn't deserve it, or the pain and fear that went along with it. But, the sight of another in jeopardy had made him move and, wanting to thank the stranger for standing up for him, he had spoken up.

Except--

Now he was being pulled away from it all by his rescuer, and he turned his startled gaze upon the young man helping him.]

Ah-- Where?

I dunno. Somewhere that isn't here.

[And then the small teen was dragging Shin-ah with him, diving straight into narrower side streets where these assholes wouldn't be able to find them. The good thing about his own eyes was that seeing through walls could be really handy in a place like this.]

I can see them if they try and follow us.

[His surprise at those words was such that he let his guard down-- and the young man faced no resistance in dragging Shin-Ah away from the throng that had been harrassing them. Seeing through walls was handy, but there was another who could do the same?]

I can, too.

[Shin-Ah said quietly, wariness in his tone as he peered back at the crowd they were leaving behind.

Although his time in this 'Tokyo' had been short, he was under the impression that his talents were far more than merely uncommon. Finding another who could do the same had to be more than just happenstance.]

[Leo looked back at him with his closed shut eyes, but didn't seem too suprised by what Shin-ah said.]

I figured. The way you were acting was just like me. Besides, I could see something was different about you.

[He hoped that he hadn't said that in a way that made this guy suspicious of him, but Leo really didn't know how to word it. My special eyes saw your special eyes? That would be wierd.

Thankfully they reached a point where Leo was pretty sure people in general weren't going to find them, and let go of Shin-ah's arm.]

Uh, sorry for barging in like that. They looked like they were bothering you, though....
farseen: (serious)

[personal profile] farseen 2017-11-04 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Ah...

[Leo didn't even need to elaborate on how he had known Shin-Ah was different. The sky-blue hair that he currently had uncovered and the piercing gleam of his eyes behind the exceedingly dark sunglasses he wore at night were a tell-tale sign of his differences and his skills.]

They were trouble, [he confessed, still allowing this person to drag him along without any misgivings.] Too much trouble. They shouldn't have been able to see us...

[Thus, he hadn't known what to do.]
iseeall: (more -_-)

[personal profile] iseeall 2017-11-04 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
[Well, to be fair Leo had seen and was friends with people who looked way stranger than Shin-ah ever did, but like the other one, he didn't feel the need to elaborate.]

Yeah, I don't know why. It's really a bother; believe me, in some cases its better to just not be noticed.

[Oh right, here he was just standing in front of this poor guy without even telling him who he was.]

Sorry. I'm Leo. Leonardo Watch.

[He held his hand out to shake.]
farseen: (surprise)

[personal profile] farseen 2017-11-05 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
...Shin-Ah.

[he replied quietly as he gingerly accepted that hand for a shake. It was a custom he understood in concept, but it felt utterly foreign to him.]

Um. Thank you.
iseeall: (smile)

[personal profile] iseeall 2017-11-05 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[Shin-ah. That name sounded distinctly foreign, but Leo wasn't surprised. The gods definitely were pulling people from everywhere. Instead, Leo just let go of Shin-ah's hand and tried to smile to set the guy at ease.]

Haha, no problem. Are you a shinki or god? If people are gonna be like this it might be a better idea not to be alone.
farseen: (innocent)

[personal profile] farseen 2017-11-06 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Shinki.

[He said simply, canting his head curiously at Leo as if silently wondering why that was even important to know.]

You?

[The question came almost as an afterthought, as if reminding himself that attempting to carry a conversation with a new person was important. Especially now, given the circumstances.

He didn't want to be alone if people were going to interrogate him.]
iseeall: (listening)

[personal profile] iseeall 2017-11-06 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
[The only problem here was that Leo himself wasn't the best at talking to people he just met, especially ones he knew next to nothing about. He was a far cry from his incredibly young shy self, but Leo had to admit he put his foot in his mouth more often than not.]

Uh, well. They told me I'm a god, but I'm not really sure about that. Do you know who...yours is?
farseen: (pillows)

[personal profile] farseen 2017-11-09 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[Then they were united by a cause, for words and Shin-Ah were rarely on even terms. Silences were a place of comfort and safety for him, but occassionally a few words to exchange with a kind person found their way into his grasp.]

Mm. [He nodded, feeling somewhat bolder with this.] He's a good person.
iseeall: (smile)

[personal profile] iseeall 2017-11-11 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, that's good.

[Leo seemed to smile in relief. The first time he heard about the whole shinki and god deal, he was worried about someone abusing their power and Shin-ah just standing there and letting people annoy him had Leo concerned.]

What's he like then? I can uh. Try and help you find him, if you need to. Two pairs of super eyes are better than one, right?
