TEST DRIVE # 20

Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.

Rope bridge Rumble

An adventure park that features several scary-exciting climbs and crossings between trees using only ropes has a huge problem. The ropes are getting unexpectedly tangled up. Even worse, it sometimes happens when a customer is trying to make a crossing, tripping them up in the midst of their course! While the safety ropes have been doing their job at keeping customers uninjured, the employees are fervently praying that whatever is doing this will go away, before something worse happens.

Steady Shave

It's the height of summer, and even men that treasure their beards, mustaches and sideburns dearly are driven to get it shaved off in the name of heat reduction. Small barbershops are being overrun with customers who want it all shaved off- some even going so far as to want their head shaved bare.
Answer the barber's pleas for a couple extra hands. May they be steady.

Toil and Trouble

A performance of Macbeth is being haunted by an ayakashi causing bad luck. Props getting misplaced or needing repairs, color gels for the lights getting torn, the microphones keep kicking up feedback- The customary wish of 'break a leg' feels dangerously close to becoming real. Rescue the Scottish Play from its curse before the curtain rises!

Ubiquitous U-turns

Elementary school children go home in groups for safety. However that measure isn't helping against some children getting home very late. And none of the kids can bring themselves to say why they end up taking so many wrong turns on the way. Take up a traffic flag and your best teacher voice, and help the children find their proper way home, keeping an eye out for anything - mundane or supernatural - that might be leading the kids astray.

Violet Veranda

Cheerful violets grew unusually well this year on the college dorm veranda, to the point where the whole perimeter of the veranda is full of containers holding them. But now the flowers are nearing the end of their life, and something strange is happening to the students at the same time. As the flowers wilt and fade, so does the energy of the students living in the dorm. While it would normally be impossible to draw a connection between the two, residents of the Far Shore can see the truth- tiny ladybug-like energy-hungry ayakashi are moving from flowers to students. Take care of this however you can before the last petal falls!

Ah, but Bruno is sure he's pissed this guy off. Dang!]

O-oh! Sorry, sorry! I thought you were just a ki-- CUSTOMER!

[He corrects himself loudly. NO, DON'T ADMIT THAT YOU THOUGHT HE WAS A SMALL CHILD!!!]

[Oh my god.

Okay we'll just. Move on from there without calling attention to the really clumsy verbal fumble Bruno made just now. Yusei levels his stare up at him for another second, honestly still more shocked than offended, before tearing his focus back toward the bridge.]

Have you noticed anything?

[......ohgod this guy's gonna kill him ...!

Or not?

Bruno looks a little baffled, but...]

...Oh! Well, it's not the ropes that are the problem, I can tell you that much! They're just fine, as far as ropes go.

[All right, yeah, this is already somehow a little easier when he's not looking his dead friend directly in the face.]

If the ropes aren't doing this on their own, something else must be doing it to them. Any sign of a culprit?

[Bruno lifts his shoulders in a shrug.]

None that I've seen yet! I don't know what could possibly just make ropes... do that, though.

[He strokes his chin.]

It seems scientifically unreasonable!

That just means we're dealing with something unreasonable.

[Hey, if Duel Monster cards can manifest themselves tangibly in order to cause harm, then there's no reason to think that this might not be the work of something outside of his typical understanding of the world.]

If I cross this, will you watch my back? Just keep an eye out for anything suspicious.

[A frown crosses Bruno's face.]

...Okay. Um, please be careful, though.

[He doesn't want any injuries on his watch!!]

Don't worry about me.

[Better him getting caught up in something weird over someone else, right? He's prepared to face whatever strange danger might be lurking around this rope bridge, after all. He casts a quick glance over his shoulder, back to Bruno and back to that worried expression of his.]

I know I can count of you.

[What a nice thing to say to a total stranger, huh?]

[For whatever reason, Bruno is feeling doubly anxious about this guy crossing the bridge. He wrings his hands and hovers at the edge.

But then... oh!... he ... oh... Bruno lights up, smile bright.]

Yes! You can count on me, mister!!

[Well done, Yusei.]

[His own shock and melancholy over this situation might not be going away any time soon, but there's something about that sudden brightening up that he can't help but smile a tiny bit over. It's just... hard to feel completely gloomy in the face of Bruno's brand of peppiness.]

It's 'Yusei'. [Don't call him 'mister', goodness.] And just make sure you let me know if anything seems fishy.

[Outside of 'this situation in general', naturally.]

...Yusei.

[What a nice name. It feels right to say it. Bruno grins like an idiot.]

I'm Bruno!! I'll be sure to watch your back, Yusei!

[He gives a little salute, very energetic about this now.]

[He knows who you are! But he gets that you don't know he knows that, Bruno!! Once more, very depressing, but he'll get through this.

It's time to face that rope bridge again, though, and with his back turned to Bruno, he flashes a quick thumbs-up, just to let him know he got the message loud and clear. His movements stay fairly cautious, mostly in case something does decide to take him by surprise, but for the most part it seems... nothing is really happening, is it? How weird.]

[Gosh don't make this complicated, Yusei!!

Bruno is very purposely keeping his eyes directed at the ropes, trying to figure out what might be happening. Everything seems to be going perfectly fine...

And then!! Bruno yells out!]

Yusei! Look out!

[Something is grabbing the rope behind Yusei. What is that thing?! It looks so gross!!]
