Test Drive #20

TEST DRIVE # 20

Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.

Rope bridge Rumble

An adventure park that features several scary-exciting climbs and crossings between trees using only ropes has a huge problem. The ropes are getting unexpectedly tangled up. Even worse, it sometimes happens when a customer is trying to make a crossing, tripping them up in the midst of their course! While the safety ropes have been doing their job at keeping customers uninjured, the employees are fervently praying that whatever is doing this will go away, before something worse happens.

Steady Shave

It's the height of summer, and even men that treasure their beards, mustaches and sideburns dearly are driven to get it shaved off in the name of heat reduction. Small barbershops are being overrun with customers who want it all shaved off- some even going so far as to want their head shaved bare.
Answer the barber's pleas for a couple extra hands. May they be steady.

Toil and Trouble

A performance of Macbeth is being haunted by an ayakashi causing bad luck. Props getting misplaced or needing repairs, color gels for the lights getting torn, the microphones keep kicking up feedback- The customary wish of 'break a leg' feels dangerously close to becoming real. Rescue the Scottish Play from its curse before the curtain rises!

Ubiquitous U-turns

Elementary school children go home in groups for safety. However that measure isn't helping against some children getting home very late. And none of the kids can bring themselves to say why they end up taking so many wrong turns on the way. Take up a traffic flag and your best teacher voice, and help the children find their proper way home, keeping an eye out for anything - mundane or supernatural - that might be leading the kids astray.

Violet Veranda

Cheerful violets grew unusually well this year on the college dorm veranda, to the point where the whole perimeter of the veranda is full of containers holding them. But now the flowers are nearing the end of their life, and something strange is happening to the students at the same time. As the flowers wilt and fade, so does the energy of the students living in the dorm. While it would normally be impossible to draw a connection between the two, residents of the Far Shore can see the truth- tiny ladybug-like energy-hungry ayakashi are moving from flowers to students. Take care of this however you can before the last petal falls!

[Alan smiles happily at this clearly he's found a way to keep little minds entertained as they make their way. That and he's enjoying teaching Castiel things -it's delightful.]

I'm glad. Now then let's see. How about something Green, my darlings?

[He's suggesting softly, giving a nod of approval to Castiel for his quick save.]

Nicely done. Are you certain you haven't watched after wayward children before?

[Alan chuckles to himself wondering how his co-workers would feel if they knew he thought of them as such - even William at times.]

[ There are plenty of green things around; trees! grass! pots! a bicycle!! The children are chirping off options, right and left. ]

I, unfortunately, cannot recall. My memories are limited.

[ Clearly, he missed the teasing in Alan's remark.

In attempting to put the small girl diwn, Castiel has found that she's latched onto to his sleeve rather well, and gives a great squeal of protest at the attempt. Though equally confused by this, the angel will relent, keeping her tucked under his arm like a rag doll. So long as she doesn't make that noise again; it's distressing. ]

Although, I get the sense that I may be the wayward son.

[Alan gives a soft ding ding ding and gestures with his finger.]

Our first winner. It was indeed the bicycle. Now then shall we try for something red?

[There were dozens of re things - flowers, a roof, a door, a car - the list went on. Alan has picked the flowers. his expression softened.]

It's okay. You'll remember someday I'm certain.

[Hearing that squeal he's alarmed and glancing over his shoulder to check on them. At the sight he calms and rests a hand on his chest. A merry little laugh leaves his lips and he smiles.]

I don't think you were that wayward and even if you were it would surely be the good kind of wayward. Doing things in your own way isn't always a bad thing.

[ The child who had guessed correctly is one of the older boys of the bunch; despite having been reluctant to participate in the group walk, he seems pretty pleased with himself for winning.

While they begin to guess at what Alan has chosen this time, Castiel busies himself with adjusting the little girl so she's not dangling over his arm so awkwardly. Thankfully, she's more compliant this time, likely because she can drape over his shoulder. The walk must have tired her. ]

It's a comfort that you would think so, Alan. I hope you're right, in both instances.

[Alan hums to himself listening to the chorus of children's voices. The answer this time comes from a young girl with a large silk ribbon bow in her hair. Delight at hearing Alan again give the dinging noise put a spring into her step.]

Now we'll try for brown.

[A glance back to Castiel and the girl draws a breathless laugh from him. He means well and Cas tries hard. Alan finds it endearing.]

I certainly do think so. I'm also rather certain I'm right. I'm a good judge of character after all. After all it was my job before - judging that is.

[ Castiel does try hard - incredibly so. While he can't explain why, there's a lingering desire within him, one to do well and prove himself by it.

Still eyeing the little girl on his shoulder, there's a perplexed sort of endearment that takes over him. He can't help but think that he's never had one so dear and innocent trust him in such a way, before. ]

That much is true. [ Looking to his god with some amusement, Castiel gives a brief nod of confidence. ] Then I'll trust in your divine judgement.

[ Wait, what--? A child points to him; more specifically, his coat. Looking down at himself, it takes a moment of thought. But he IS wearing a sort of light brown, isn't he? ]

[Alan knows and he can relate to this better than he'd care to admit. How would Castiel feel to lean that his god is not so much divine as reborn lucky? Would he even think his god was a good one? perplexing questions all and ones he has no time for as they're seeing children home. He'll dig into his thoughts later of tea.

Even so - he's happy with this new life. This strange arrangement. He has old friends, has made new ones, and is actually getting to be useful.]

You would have to do something rather terrible to change my mind. [At that amused look he's arching a brow. What was that for? It's on the tip of his tongue to tell Castiel not to blindly believe or trust his judgement because he's not infallible and makes his share of mistakes.] Perhaps we can judge together - we're a team after all.

[Alan laughs merrily. He grins to himself. Yes, that works and he's certain Castiel would be delighted to be a clue.]

Very nicely done, little darling. Let's try for orange now.
casbutt: (wholesome.)

[ Castiel is oddly delighted of that, chin raising with a touch of pride plucking at the edges of his mouth.

Of course, the reassurance does well to raise his mood, as well. His god is gracious. ]

And I hope I never shall disappoint you. I'm not certain that it's my place to judge, but I will surely do what I can to assist you, however I'm capable.

[ Looking over the children that they've taken responsibility for, he'd like to think that he's done a decent job of it, so far.

Now that Alan's assigned a new color, and there are no further distractions, even he is looking about for possible clues (and keeping them to himself; he's not a child, and probably shouldn't express such interest in a children's game). ]

I'm rather certain you shalln't. You're a good man, Castiel.

[That makes him smile. Strange to hear one so much older than himself say such a thing. Leaving judgement in the hands of a once human turned reaper turned god. And yet -]

I expected no other answer from you.

[For a massive celestial being that is eons old Castiel certainly is a humble person. Then again that may have a good deal to the memories he lacks.]

For now let's focus on the task at hand.

[It won't be hard to figure out there are dozens of them under foot. Leaves in the golden yellows, crimson, earthy browns, dappled mixes of all the colors and of course, orange.

As they see the children that figured out the first clues, Alan is taking carefully wrapped sweets from his pockets. They're an assortment of colors: a warm reddish brown, a light cream, a dark pink, a lighter delicate pink, a dark blue, and one that is white. Each of them bare the same logo - a crowned black cat in an oval frame.]
casbutt: (amusement.)

[personal profile] casbutt 2017-09-13 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
[ That answer visibly brings a smile to his face, then. Again, he will nod at his god in thanks.

It's true, Castiel doesn't have his memories; yet, he still maintains an incredibly high opinion of humans. In contrast, the opinion he has of himself is questionable, at best. He doesn't even know what he is, really.

The prospect of receiving candy is enough to excite the children, eliciting exclamations of happiness from their winners thus far. Those remaining take more initiative in calling out their guesses.

While taking in their surroundings to note all that's colored that particular hue, the angel is reminded of earth's beauty. Of nature, and all humanity has done to evolve with it. ]

[And their game carries on in the fashion. Once the answer is guessed Alan selects a new object, naming it's color and passing out sweets until they're down to the very last child. The vines Alan had been using to keep the children together and on task vanishing.

The very last child, the girl Castiel is carrying with messy dark black hair hair and light blue eyes is left and she's also the only one without a candy.]

You've been such a good girl. How about one last game? Can you tell me what that is called?

[The god gestures pointing toward a small black kitten lazing on a stones lining a flower bed. Drawing her face from Cas's shoulder she's peering where Alan points before softly speaking in a shy voice but with obvious joy and pride -]

My Kitty.

You're a very clever girl.

[Alan smiles before lightly booping her nose with a finger handing her her candy. Before gently taking her from Cas's arms to kneel gently at her level as he settles her feet on the ground and lets her get steady. Fingers deftly moving and tying her shoe's loose laces, once he's done he's petting her lightly on the head.]

Run along inside, remember to be good for your parents.

[She's beaming at Alan pocketing the sweet and she's starting of the path, moving to scoop her kitten up in her arms earning a soft mew -as if he's used to this treatment before he headbutts her chin. Then she's waving at them cutely with the kitten's paw before hurrying inside. Oddly, none of the children leave Alan and Cas's care without a sweet treat. But maybe that was exactly according to Alan's plan to start.

Alan move to his feet, dusting off his jeans. Grinning at Castiel, taking his Shinki's hand and dropping a few of the sweets into his hand.]

You did well today I'm proud of you, Castiel. Now let's get us home, shall we? I believe some nice tea and good book are in order while we enjoy the garden.
