Test Drive #20

Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:
1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

Rope bridge Rumble
An adventure park that features several scary-exciting climbs and crossings between trees using only ropes has a huge problem. The ropes are getting unexpectedly tangled up. Even worse, it sometimes happens when a customer is trying to make a crossing, tripping them up in the midst of their course! While the safety ropes have been doing their job at keeping customers uninjured, the employees are fervently praying that whatever is doing this will go away, before something worse happens.
It's the height of summer, and even men that treasure their beards, mustaches and sideburns dearly are driven to get it shaved off in the name of heat reduction. Small barbershops are being overrun with customers who want it all shaved off- some even going so far as to want their head shaved bare.
Answer the barber's pleas for a couple extra hands. May they be steady.
A performance of Macbeth is being haunted by an ayakashi causing bad luck. Props getting misplaced or needing repairs, color gels for the lights getting torn, the microphones keep kicking up feedback- The customary wish of 'break a leg' feels dangerously close to becoming real. Rescue the Scottish Play from its curse before the curtain rises!
Elementary school children go home in groups for safety. However that measure isn't helping against some children getting home very late. And none of the kids can bring themselves to say why they end up taking so many wrong turns on the way. Take up a traffic flag and your best teacher voice, and help the children find their proper way home, keeping an eye out for anything - mundane or supernatural - that might be leading the kids astray.
Cheerful violets grew unusually well this year on the college dorm veranda, to the point where the whole perimeter of the veranda is full of containers holding them. But now the flowers are nearing the end of their life, and something strange is happening to the students at the same time. As the flowers wilt and fade, so does the energy of the students living in the dorm. While it would normally be impossible to draw a connection between the two, residents of the Far Shore can see the truth- tiny ladybug-like energy-hungry ayakashi are moving from flowers to students. Take care of this however you can before the last petal falls!

If you're uncertain about anything, feel free to check out the Premise, Rules, and FAQ posts. And don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have on the FAQ!

Have fun!
Earl Ciel Phantomhive - Kuroshitsuji - God
(He is not someone who feels strongly for works of the theater - though they can be entertaining - and he wonders seriously if the gods are really as useless as Sebastian has always led him to believe. Here he is in a position humans would kill to obtain and yet he finds it, thus far, sorely lacking. Sighing, arms crossed, the little Earl notices that some nearby props are being moved by invisible hands.
Are these the ayakashi? He steps in the middle of the path the props are taking, stopping one with his foot.)
I must say, you are entirely unremarkable. (Famous last words, perhaps, as the ayakashi move to lifting him instead. Help? Can these things be charmed into good behavior like snakes? Not that he can play a pipe, but surely someone can...)
Violet Veranda
(From the stage to the garden! Ciel spies the tiny ayakashi, his uncovered eye narrowing suspiciously. If only his gardener were here - not that Finny has any experience with these vermin.)
No further. (He shuts a door that leads to the dorms, lashing out with his godly power to break the ayakashi apart. The power is new to him, however, and he holds his head, grimacing.) I should get paid for my troubles.
(Really. He is just being nice! And money should be useful in Heaven too? If not, he can negotiate some other form of payment. Do not let his age fool you: he has the mind of a noble businessman - even if, at the moment, he seems like a less than efficient gardener.)
Toil and Trouble
[ Appearing as if from nowhere (or perhaps having just waited for a good cue before moving in to dispatch the ayakashi), a figure dressed in a full theatrical costume steps in the ayakashi's path. Somebody has apparently fully infiltrated this production.
"Macbeth" is now pointing a golden flintlock pistol just below Ciel. ] I'll only miss if you move the target.
no subject
The target is moving on its own! (He closes his eyes tightly, holding his body stiff.) I will not forgive you if you miss.
(As if that means anything.)
no subject
[ Hibiki pulls the trigger. A stream of water, glittering in the air, arcs out of the pistol and splatters all over the ayakashi. It writhes, its grip on Ciel loosening.
Hibiki smirks and keeps up the pressure. Let it henceforth be known: squirt guns, as a pastime, are silly and beneath her.
But holy water pistols, for when one's shinki isn't at hand and inconveniences present themselves? Why, such an object is not only dashing, but necessary. ]
no subject
What sort of water is in that pistol?
no subject
[ Hibiki blows across the top of the pistol despite it not emitting any steam, then conceals it in the folds of her costume. ] Invoking a shinki is preferable, but this deals with the immediate issue.
[ The ayakashi, figuring it'll go prey on something that doesn't splash it with PAIN INCARNATE, wriggles away. Thereby proving her point. Maybe. ]
no subject
Where did you find it? (She doesn't look like a priest unless - as gods - can they bless the water themselves?)
no subject
[ Seeing as you could see the ayakashi, etc. ]
no subject
no subject
...You shall.
Toil and Trouble
Sad to say, young sir, but they'll certainly be leaving a mark on you. Please, try not to move too much.
[ It's rude to mistreat the stage hands, but this was a special case. Pulling out two ornate daggers (from where? It'll never be known,) the tanned woman dashes with a speed and elegance that isn't so alien to Ciel. They may seem invisible, but wide slashes and a general sense for them, is enough to dissipate the ayakashi. Of course that means the hold on the boy is gone, but it's within Hannah's ability to be ready to catch him with open arms. ]
You shouldn't travel in the Near Shore on your own. It's quite dangerous.
no subject
I have no desire to be marked by a foul spirit. If you can convince it to unhand me, I would be grateful.
(His visible eye narrows at her tactics. Well, that isn't suspicious at all! He begins to wonder whether she is a shinigami or...
Could she be a demon? He supposes there must be others. He inhales sharply when the hold on his shirt is released and he inevitably falls. There is a slight rise in color on his cheeks when he is caught. Though Ciel Phantomhive - "Ciel" Phantomhive - is many things, he is also, undoubtedly, a young teenage boy too and being held in her arms is a little embarrassing.)
I only went where I was told. I cannot say I know how any of this operates.
no subject
In that case, I should inform you a little more of the situation. Ayakashi are simply hungry animals, mimicking and acting from the patterns and behaviors of humans. You were more likely to be consumed than they were to be convinced of releasing their meal.
[ Though she had no way of knowing just how familiar Ciel was with foul creatures wanting to consume him. ]
Fortunately, you appear to be in well enough condition. Whether you be god or shinki, it's safer if you have the other by your side. It's the only way to be rid of them, after all.
[ Meaning that those ayakashi were still around. ]
no subject
Did I complain about you annihilating them, my lady? I think not. I know the nature of beasts far too well.
(At least he knows that they can be extinguished now. That is...comforting?)
I am a god. I have not met my shinki nor do I see how I could trust them so intimately right off the bat.
(But if he must...)
no subject
[ Before you try convincing other ayakashi in the future that you're not as edible as you likely are. Hannah neither increases or decreases the distance between them, leaving that to be under the boy's control.
Of course being a god meant he was alive, but how rash and reckless. He seemed to need looking after for his own protection. ]
Yet you so earnestly run to your duties without that important step. For they are the only way you can exterminate...
[ She pauses, looking off to the side for a moment. With a swipe of her hand, saying 'line,' the barrier of light comes up and illuminates parts of the ayakashi that were plaguing the theater. ]
And keep such dangers at bay. It would be recommended that you teleport back to the Far Shore.
[ But is the boy the type to retreat for his own safety, leaving a job behind? She's curious to find out. ]
no subject
I am a god. How is it that a god cannot fight as he or she deems fit? (Having a weapon is nice, but shouldn't he be...useful? Powerful? He glances at the display, lips tightening in a stubborn line.
What she suggests makes sense, but now his pride has been wounded...
However, this is not the first time he has suffered such.)
I shall return with my shinki. Then we will demolish the ayakashi swiftly and leave this performance free of unnecessary clutter.
no subject
If the young god is offended to the idea of retreat, there is an alternative.
[ Make a deal. Well, a temporary connection, if that's what he wished. Oh, but what does the poor boy wish, aside from completing his duties. ]
You're not bound or forced to use only the shinki you were assigned to. If one is present, you can name them for the occasion. Then, if you so wish, you may simply release them afterwards. The choice is yours to make.
no subject
I'm listening. (This is eerily familiar, but he is not in a cage. He is not desperate and despairing. He is stronger.)
Are you offering yourself - ? (Is she a shinki? How does one tell? His blue gaze looks over her curiously, sharply assessing.)
If we can, temporarily, work together, I am not against the idea. (For a victory - no matter how small. He will learn how the bonds work in the process. Hands on learning cannot be beat.)

Violet Veranda
[As for the ayakashi bugs, they proven to be more of a problem than expected. So small and so numerous, they're hard to wipe out efficiently while preserving the flowers. These plants have already suffered enough.]
There's no end to them.
no subject
Ah, there it is.) Say, do you see that hive?
no subject
[Sure enough though, Emizel followed where Ciel was looking.] Well, something like that will make this even easier.
[He will prepare his staff. It will still be impossible to get all of the ayakashi, however with a nest gone their numbers should drop drastically.]
no subject
Water would serve us best. We should drown them in their nest.
no subject
[It's..faster. But water might work too.]

[The winged staff suddenly had a red spark to it, he's all charged up.] I can do that easily. Unless you got a better idea.
