TEST DRIVE # 20

Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.

Rope bridge Rumble

An adventure park that features several scary-exciting climbs and crossings between trees using only ropes has a huge problem. The ropes are getting unexpectedly tangled up. Even worse, it sometimes happens when a customer is trying to make a crossing, tripping them up in the midst of their course! While the safety ropes have been doing their job at keeping customers uninjured, the employees are fervently praying that whatever is doing this will go away, before something worse happens.

Steady Shave

It's the height of summer, and even men that treasure their beards, mustaches and sideburns dearly are driven to get it shaved off in the name of heat reduction. Small barbershops are being overrun with customers who want it all shaved off- some even going so far as to want their head shaved bare.
Answer the barber's pleas for a couple extra hands. May they be steady.

Toil and Trouble

A performance of Macbeth is being haunted by an ayakashi causing bad luck. Props getting misplaced or needing repairs, color gels for the lights getting torn, the microphones keep kicking up feedback- The customary wish of 'break a leg' feels dangerously close to becoming real. Rescue the Scottish Play from its curse before the curtain rises!

Ubiquitous U-turns

Elementary school children go home in groups for safety. However that measure isn't helping against some children getting home very late. And none of the kids can bring themselves to say why they end up taking so many wrong turns on the way. Take up a traffic flag and your best teacher voice, and help the children find their proper way home, keeping an eye out for anything - mundane or supernatural - that might be leading the kids astray.

Violet Veranda

Cheerful violets grew unusually well this year on the college dorm veranda, to the point where the whole perimeter of the veranda is full of containers holding them. But now the flowers are nearing the end of their life, and something strange is happening to the students at the same time. As the flowers wilt and fade, so does the energy of the students living in the dorm. While it would normally be impossible to draw a connection between the two, residents of the Far Shore can see the truth- tiny ladybug-like energy-hungry ayakashi are moving from flowers to students. Take care of this however you can before the last petal falls!

A couple of flickers here and there. I think I'm just old enough to see whatever ayakashi is concealing itself. It might be attuned to a specific age and I think it's ten and below.

[Lilie gestured towards a sort of formless thing in the distance.] That way, try to suss it out please, kami-sama?

[What a clever, if not dangerous, tactic. Normally, he'd feel a little cautious about examining something so suspicious unarmed, but by all reports the ayakashi is simply disorienting the children it comes in contact with, rather than harming them. It's not a matter of dropping his guard completely, but perhaps feeling a little more curious than worried.

First thing's first, though.] Just Yusei is fine. [Maybe introductions should have happened a little sooner, but that much is out of the way now.] I'll make it quick, do your best to keep an eye on things while I check.

Yusei... okay.

[nodding rapidly, she waved her flag up into the air to attract the kids attention.] All right, it's just a little ways further.

[Then turning to Yusei she added,] Be careful.

You, too.

[Not that her job is particularly perilous in theory, but who knows if there's only one ayakashi trying to lure off children. He'll leave her to this job regardless, trusting that she can handle them on their own if she's comfortable enough with it to let him leave on his own like this.

Moving in closer to the source of the problem appears to make whatever cloaking method the ayakashi is using weaken, though it's smart enough to shy away when approached. That's probably why kids are so keen to chase after it, huh...? Either way, there's not a whole lot he can do about it on his own, so after a few minutes of investigating, he returns to the group of children.]

Everything all right still?

So far so good. [Lilie is leading one of the kids to their door and she waves before going inside.]

I think the ayakashi is keeping it's distance, don't you think?

It looks like it, for now.

[At least they're getting all the kids safely back today, that's definitely a good thing.]

I'd rather not leave it alone for too long, it's bound to get bold and cause some real harm sooner or later. [Not that the trouble it's stirring up now isn't worth putting a stop to as it is, just that it's trouble that can be avoided with extra work.]

Agreed. Once we get all these kids home safely, I'll help you out with it.

[Because while Lilie is just a lowly shinki, she feels obliged to help out as much as possible.]

Are you sure?

[He'll accept the help if she's offering it, but working as a pair to take care of an ayakashi with someone you only just met might be a little troubling for someone as young as she is, he thinks. Just gotta make sure she's up for it...!]

I'm sure. I don't want these kids to be in trouble all the time. So I want to help out as much as possible.

[Because Lilie comes from a long line of people who wouldn't give up on their dreams.]

[Such resolve! He can admire that.]

It's a deal, then. [First thing's first, though,] I don't believe I got your name, earlier.

[If they're going to work together, it's probably a good idea.]

I'm Lilie, and you are...?

[Lilie can't recall if they've met before, considering Shinki memories are swiss cheese.]

[It's rough being a shinki, for sure.]

Yusei. I look forward to working with you more.

Same here, let's do our best!

[At least Lilie isn't very upset about it. Considering she's lost a bit of her life already.]

[Sometimes you just have to be brave in the face of an unfortunate situation, and Lilie is definitely putting on a brave face!]

Are there many more kids left to take home? [That's gotta come first, after all!]

Four or five left. [She glanced over, and yeah, they haven't strayed, yet anyhow.]

They're all on this block so we should finish up quickly.

[Four or five children are way easier to keep an eye on than a whole herd of them, at least. Dropping them all off in the same area should be simple, too.]

All right. [Then, to the kids,] Let's keep moving, everyone.

[With a smile, Lilie held up her flag as she beckoned them along. With Yusei's help, this would be easy.]

All right, it's a little further everyone!

[And, thankfully enough, with the group on the last stretch of their journey, none of them seem inclined to take any particularly weird turns. The only challenge now is to keep them moving at a steady pace, and wave them goodbye once they reach their houses.

And, once the last one's dropped off safely,] You handled that very well. [For how frantic she may have seemed when he showed up, she was certainly able to pull everything together with a bit of extra support.]

Ah, thank you, Yusei! I couldn't have done it without your help though.

[Lilie bowed again, before adding,] Should we go and find that ayakashi now?
