TEST DRIVE # 20

Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.

Rope bridge Rumble

An adventure park that features several scary-exciting climbs and crossings between trees using only ropes has a huge problem. The ropes are getting unexpectedly tangled up. Even worse, it sometimes happens when a customer is trying to make a crossing, tripping them up in the midst of their course! While the safety ropes have been doing their job at keeping customers uninjured, the employees are fervently praying that whatever is doing this will go away, before something worse happens.

Steady Shave

It's the height of summer, and even men that treasure their beards, mustaches and sideburns dearly are driven to get it shaved off in the name of heat reduction. Small barbershops are being overrun with customers who want it all shaved off- some even going so far as to want their head shaved bare.
Answer the barber's pleas for a couple extra hands. May they be steady.

Toil and Trouble

A performance of Macbeth is being haunted by an ayakashi causing bad luck. Props getting misplaced or needing repairs, color gels for the lights getting torn, the microphones keep kicking up feedback- The customary wish of 'break a leg' feels dangerously close to becoming real. Rescue the Scottish Play from its curse before the curtain rises!

Ubiquitous U-turns

Elementary school children go home in groups for safety. However that measure isn't helping against some children getting home very late. And none of the kids can bring themselves to say why they end up taking so many wrong turns on the way. Take up a traffic flag and your best teacher voice, and help the children find their proper way home, keeping an eye out for anything - mundane or supernatural - that might be leading the kids astray.

Violet Veranda

Cheerful violets grew unusually well this year on the college dorm veranda, to the point where the whole perimeter of the veranda is full of containers holding them. But now the flowers are nearing the end of their life, and something strange is happening to the students at the same time. As the flowers wilt and fade, so does the energy of the students living in the dorm. While it would normally be impossible to draw a connection between the two, residents of the Far Shore can see the truth- tiny ladybug-like energy-hungry ayakashi are moving from flowers to students. Take care of this however you can before the last petal falls!

Ayakashi, huh? It always comes back to those things, doesn't it?

[Oh hey, that is a bug.]

Oh, hang on. Hold still a sec.

[He reaches out a hand to swat the 'bug' away. It flies off to seek easier prey.]

Got it! So what do these ayakashi look like, anyway?

It seems like it... huh?

[With the "bug" flying away, Lilie could feel a little of her energy return as she blinked and looked in the direction of it.]

... I think... that was it? My god said something about bugs... It must have latched onto me when I was working on the flowers.

Huh?

[He glances between her and the bug flying away several times before his brain catches up to the situation.]

That was it? H-hey you! Get back here!

[He calls after it as if he wasn't the one who shooed it away. Then looks back at her.]

It's getting away! C'mon!

[And he's.... chasing it.]

R-right!

[Getting up, Lilie took chase with Lann as she exclaimed,] Please stop! We're only doing our jobs!

[It's headed towards the school too.]

Yeah! Stop in the name of... of us!

[Predictably, it doesn't stop in the name of anything. But if it gets into the school it'll have a whole buffet of victims to choose from. Lann glances back to Lilie.]

Hey, go around that bush and see if you can head it off. I'll chase it that way.

Okay!

[Swerving around the bush, Lilie sped about, hoping to her god that she made it in time as it buzzed towards her.]

I got it, I got it!

[And she lunged, hands outstretched.]

[And Lann comes charging around the bush in the other direction.]

Don't let it get away!

[The ayakashi tries to dive downwards to avoid her outstretched hands. But it may have reacted just a little too late. Does she catch it? Does it escape? ~~Find out next time on the exciting adventures of Lann and Lilie: Bug catchers extraordinaire!~~ ]

Look out!

[And oh hey, there's a collision on Lilie's end but her hands firmly grab the ayakashi as her headlong dive takes her right into Lann's path!]

[Lann is still running towards her at full tilt and her warning comes just a second too late. He tries to stop but stumbles.]

Whoawhoawhoa!!

[And it turns out that yelling and flailing your arms comically does not actually help you to avoid a collision. He trips into her mid dive and they both tumble to the ground. To Lann's credit he's very quick to scramble back to his feet.]

S- sorry! Sorry, are you okay?

[Lilie is not athletic, so she groans while sitting up.]

I'l.. be fine I think... I got the ayakashi too.

[It's buzzing in her grip angrily.]

[He reaches down to help her to her feet.]

Awesome! Good job!

[The bright smile shines for a few more seconds before it occurs to him to ask...]

So.... what do we do with it?

I uh... I guess we get rid of it? I think we need to bring it to someone...

[Cause Lilie was sure she didn't have purification powers, unless someone neglected to tell her as such.]

To who? Is there like, an ayakashi drop off place?

[He glances around as if he expects to see one nearby.]

That sounds like a pain. Maybe we could just squish it like a normal bug?

We need to find a god I think. There should be one close by, since my own had to run for a moment said they'll find a replacement supervisor.

[She tried, and nope.] Doesn't look like it.

Ugh. Seriously?

[He sighs heavily, but then shrugs.]

I guess we better start looking. Let's try over there.

[He picks a direction more of less at random.]

Hey, are you okay holding that thing? It's not gonna bite you or anything, is it?

I uh hope so? I hope it doesn't bite me.

[it's secured and it's leeching some of Lilie's energy, but it's so small it's almost impossible to make a dent right now.]

If it does start getting feisty, just pass it to me, okay?

[But just in case he'll look faster.]

Now where the honk are the gods around here? Hey! Gods! We got a live one here!!

[That involves yelling, obviously.]

Okay, I'll do that.

[Watching Lann call out, she looked around herself, both hands clasped around the ayakashi. Fortunately, it wasn't too dangerous. Yet anyhow.]
