TEST DRIVE # 20

Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.

Rope bridge Rumble

An adventure park that features several scary-exciting climbs and crossings between trees using only ropes has a huge problem. The ropes are getting unexpectedly tangled up. Even worse, it sometimes happens when a customer is trying to make a crossing, tripping them up in the midst of their course! While the safety ropes have been doing their job at keeping customers uninjured, the employees are fervently praying that whatever is doing this will go away, before something worse happens.

Steady Shave

It's the height of summer, and even men that treasure their beards, mustaches and sideburns dearly are driven to get it shaved off in the name of heat reduction. Small barbershops are being overrun with customers who want it all shaved off- some even going so far as to want their head shaved bare.
Answer the barber's pleas for a couple extra hands. May they be steady.

Toil and Trouble

A performance of Macbeth is being haunted by an ayakashi causing bad luck. Props getting misplaced or needing repairs, color gels for the lights getting torn, the microphones keep kicking up feedback- The customary wish of 'break a leg' feels dangerously close to becoming real. Rescue the Scottish Play from its curse before the curtain rises!

Ubiquitous U-turns

Elementary school children go home in groups for safety. However that measure isn't helping against some children getting home very late. And none of the kids can bring themselves to say why they end up taking so many wrong turns on the way. Take up a traffic flag and your best teacher voice, and help the children find their proper way home, keeping an eye out for anything - mundane or supernatural - that might be leading the kids astray.

Violet Veranda

Cheerful violets grew unusually well this year on the college dorm veranda, to the point where the whole perimeter of the veranda is full of containers holding them. But now the flowers are nearing the end of their life, and something strange is happening to the students at the same time. As the flowers wilt and fade, so does the energy of the students living in the dorm. While it would normally be impossible to draw a connection between the two, residents of the Far Shore can see the truth- tiny ladybug-like energy-hungry ayakashi are moving from flowers to students. Take care of this however you can before the last petal falls!

1. Rope bridge rumble

( He's loud. Good god almighty, he's loud but can you blame him? Up in these trees, he feels like he's king of the world. What a rush! What a thrill! He's following behind some of these adventure seekers, loudly encouraging them to keep going after an initial stumble. )

Gahaha! C'mon, c'mon, it's not an adventure if ya don't trip a li'l bit! Lead the way!

( Is this really helping? I mean, if you think about it, what good is it going to do anyone if these guys get stuck up here? These rope bridges can only hold so many people at a time and there's only so much space. The best solution is to try to push everyone to get off as quickly as possible so they can untangle this bridge again. )

2. Toil and Trouble

( There's an ayakashi out here somewhere and he sure wishes it would show itself already. Initial searches of the stage and backstage area brought up nothing and after enough dead ends, he and his god have decided whatever is responsible for all of this is probably waiting until show time to really mess people up.

Standing backstage, watching the stagehands run around, triplechecking all of their equipment, Mutsu crosses his arms and waits for anything out of the ordinary to happen. Up above, there's an ominous creeeeeak and Mutsu looks up just in time, calling out to whoever is with him, )

Up there!

( That sure is an ayakashi trying to bring one of the lights down. )

3. Ubiquitous U-turns

( Who needs a traffic flag when you're bright red and blue? He's given up his usual clothes for modern threads and as stylish as he is, a group of first graders seem more interested in tugging at his fake tail... )

Hey, hey...! That's enough already!

( He doesn't sound too bothered. )

Ah!

[ Fuwari had been looking elsewhere, but she has really good eyes. It doesn't take her long to notice what her shinki's seen.

So over she hurries, but she doesn't invoke his name just yet. Instead she cups her hands over her mouth and calls up into the lights. ] Ayakashi-san, excuse me? People are hoping to put on a play out there, so could you leave the light alone, please?

H-hey, hey! ( He stumbles over himself when she runs ahead with so much spirit to--... talk to it? ) Aw, man...

( Rubbing the back of his neck, he sighs in disbelief. That sure was a thing she just did. If they weren't against an ayakashi of all things, he'd find it endearing-- admirable, even! As down as he is to fight, he'll always prefer the option with less violence. But these things can't be reasoned with and he can tell the ayakashi isn't going to listen just by how it keeps working on the light without any care for her. )

Line!

( An offensive line goes right for the ayakashi, distracting it from the light. )

It's nice that ya wanna talk and all, Fuwari-chan, but I don't think this guy's gonna listen if ya know what I mean.

I wonder if we can lead him outside, then....

[ Ah, there's the nearest door! Fuwari heads for it and props it open, to be ready. ] Let's keep his attention and help him move!

If that comes down it'll kill someone!

[There's a ladder nearby, steel and bolted to the wall, leading up to the high metal beams where the lights are attached across. Hakkai dashes for it, scrambling up.]

Warn the crew -- I'll scare it away....

[ Loud indeed, and Mu's hearing is much better than most people's, so Mutsu is even louder to him.

Mu is behind Mutsu, though not right up behind him, and he's stopped to rub at an ear. As mentioned, Mutsu is loud. ]

Going too quickly is just an unnecessary risk though, don't rush too much.
