TEST DRIVE # 17



Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.



Courtly Cadavers

Several dead bodies have very suddenly returned to life. Not only that, but they seem to be possessed by very courteous and polite spirits. So there are reports of half-rotten beings bowing down to young ladies and kissing their hands or holding open doors for other passersby. It's really nice, sure, but also really disturbing.

Dark Deeds

In the middle of the night, there is a spirit that keeps turning off all of the street lamps. Fortunately, there aren't many cars on the roads at this time. Unfortunately, the spirit is also putting out all of the cars' headlights as well. And no cell phone lights or flashlights work during that time either and it's starting to cause a lot of accidents.

Endless Eight

There are eight blocks in downtown Tokyo that have taken to repeating endlessly. As you reach the end of the eight block, you find yourself stepping onto the first block again. No amount of turning or redirecting yourself will allow you to leave the eight blocks - until you stop by a cafe with a couple of bunny girls out front and make a purchase, that is.

Further Forward

Many in Tokyo want nothing more than to be on the cutting edge of technology! And there are some wealthy people who want to be even further ahead than everyone else. That's why they've sent out a general call for new types of technology to be brought to them. And if what you bring is impressive enough, you might get yourself a nice reward~

Giant Goats

Several farms on the outskirts of the city have reported a very sudden and tremendous growth in their goats. That's right, there are two-story tall goats hanging out with the other farm animals. Other than being very large, they seem mostly the same. But since goats will eat anything, well... Let's just say a couple of farmers are going to need new barns soon.

My god powers're too fast for them to notice me.

[It's cool being super quick on his feet and all, but it'll do them no good in a situation like this.]

If you can get their attention with Johanna, we might be able to do it. [He pauses and visibly wilts.] 'Cept... I dunno what else I can really do.

Well I have an idea of what you can do.

[She gives him a wry smile, pointing to the goat.]

When I start riding away towards the fields? Hit them with a little electricity. Like a cattle prod. It won't hurt something that big too badly if you use a weak attack. And it'll get them moving.

[forreal]

[He beams at her, his grin brighter than his hair the sun.]

Hell yeah, now we're talkin'! That I can do. [Bless you, Makoto.] You ready to rock?

[Ryuji stretches his arms out in front of him, cracking his knuckles and rolling his neck like he used to do to prepare for his next race. This is the kind of thing he was born to do. The Phantom Thieving, not... chasing goats... That's an important distinction.

As he bounces between his feet, blue flames begin to swirl at his fingertips and he can feel that rush he's missed so much.]

[nuclearpowered]

[She nods solidly, nuclear blue flames already swirling around her, her outfit shifting in the blink of an eye. The bike, Johanna, appears beneath her once more and she sets herself.]

Ready when you are, Skull.

[Yeah, she's going back to the code names, now that they're doing actual Phantom Thieving. These aren't ayakashi, after all. Just goats.]

[forreal]

[In a burst of blue flames around him, Ryuji is back in his Phantom Thief costume, the red bandana around his neck fluttering against his chest. Once she's mounted on the bike, his fingers reach up to graze the bottom edges of his mask and his mouth turns up into a wide, toothy grin as Captain Kidd appears with his cannon-hand at the ready.]

Heads up!

[With a boom, a string of electricity shoots over his head at the goat, aimed at its feet so as not to harm it, but it gives it a start – enough to set it into motion, and he winks at Makoto from behind his mask as it reappears over his eyes.]

Knock 'em dead, Queen!

Right!

[With that Makoto, Queen, takes off like a shot from a gun. The engine roars and she does two quick circuits around the goats, ensuring that she had their full attention. And then she stopped right in front of them and spun the tire of her bike, flinging dirt, mud, and stones up into the goat's faces. Yes it's rude, but man does it work. They bleat angrily and snap at her, but she rides just out of range.

And the goats follow, of course, ungainly at that size...]

Now, Skull! Get them moving!

[It takes him a second to respond again, far too enthralled by the sight of the giant goats chasing the masked girl on a motorbike to react when she calls out to him, but he shakes himself out of his trance and bolts after her.

And it's with such an immense speed that he's nothing but a blur of black, red, and yellow before he reappears just behind them seconds later, gasping for air. He's still a bit rusty on the running, not to mention it's a million times faster here but mastering that skill will come... with time.

His persona reappears and this time, Captain Kidd lands a hit right on one of the goat's tail and its giant hoofed hind feet kick back into the air, sending up bits of dirt and dust along with it and blindsiding him with what might as well be a giant dust storm.]

Shit.

[nuclearpowered]

Skull stop screwing around!

[She barks that out, trying to catch his attention, getting angrier and angrier by the second as she blitzes forward with goats on her ass.

The monster animals bleat in a fury, charging ahead with their horns lowered but Makoto's faster.]

See if you can outpace them, maybe peel them apart! Get one to follow you!

[forreal]

I ain't screwin' around! The buggers are faster than they look and it ain't just 'cause they got longer legs than your normal, everyday goat.

[He barks back in protest but leaves little room for a rebuttal and he chases them at a normal speed this time, his mask disappearing again.]

Cut 'em off!

[There's another boom of lightning that comes down between the goats to separate them, and one skids to a halt with its feet slamming into the dirt before it takes off in the other direction. And it's running and running... and not stopping.]

I dunno if we thought this through.

[nuclearpowered]

[That's about what she expected, so she wheels her bike to the left to cut that one off, the picture of confidence on the back of that metal steed.]

We're fine! Get the other one and drive it towards the fishing pond. If we can scare them into the water that should hold them for a minute!

[Honestly she kind of wants to knock these stupid things out and move on with life but for now they need to be dealt with without that. A way to keep them from bolting like water is fine.]

We'll feed them then, and hopefully the food will help them go to sleep. Or at least stop eating the farm equipment.

Feed 'em what!?

[There isn't a lot of time for him to listen to any sort of protest that might come from Makoto because he's already running after the other goat as per her suggestion. The one that's running in the opposite direction from the very fishing pond she speaks of.

Why's his life gotta be so damn rough all the time?

He uses Captain Kidd to zap at the goat, trying to scare it off into running the other way. It's... kind of working? He manages to get it turned around, and he whistles as loud as he can at it to grab its attention. It stares at him - he must look to be the size of a bug compared to this thing - before it digs its hind feet into the dirt and charges at him.

Yeah, best idea he's had all day, right?]

You gotta be effin' kiddin' me.

[He takes off, using his new powers to get some momentum and put some distance between him and the angry beast but the quick movements come in short spurts. He can see Makoto up ahead, and he calls out to her.]

Maaaa! Kooooo! Toooo!

[SCREW CODE NAMES, HE'S GOT A CODE BILLY ON HIS HANDS.]

What the hell.

[nuclearpowered]

[Zipping along, bike engine roaring, she whirls her head around at the sound of his voice. And immediately gives a start because holy shit. Johanna whips to one side at a sharp 90 degree angle and she holds out her hand.]

Duck, Skull!

[And then it comes. A blast of nuclear fire, radiation rippling through the Persona, through her arm, and right into Billy's face. The goat bucks in fright, rearing up as something burns his snout.]

Run! Get around me! I'll keep him occupied, but we may need to consider what to do if we can't slow them!

[She'd prefer not to kill them, but what...can they do...?]

[forreal]

[Yep, he's coming barreling for you with a giant goat behind him, Queen. He doesn't wait to duck at her warning and stumbles forward a little, using his hands to stop him from performing the most graceful of faceplants into the grass. Wouldn't be the first time!]

You told me to get 'em to the water so that's what I'm doin'! Maybe we shoulda considered what to do before doin' it!?

And that's what I'm trying to do but clearly they don't want to go!

[she spins the bike and reaches out to offer him a hand up. Get on, nerdlord.]

Hang on, I have another idea!

[forreal]

[He stares between her hand and her bike, the gears in his head turning until he realizes exactly what she wants him to do.]

Are you for real!?

[As he's already grabbing her offered hand and hopping on the bike, clearing his throat as he very awkwardly slides his hands around her waist. Are you going to ride off with him into the sunset, Makoto?]
