TEST DRIVE # 17
Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:
1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!
Courtly Cadavers
Several dead bodies have very suddenly returned to life. Not only that, but they seem to be possessed by very courteous and polite spirits. So there are reports of half-rotten beings bowing down to young ladies and kissing their hands or holding open doors for other passersby. It's really nice, sure, but also really disturbing.
In the middle of the night, there is a spirit that keeps turning off all of the street lamps. Fortunately, there aren't many cars on the roads at this time. Unfortunately, the spirit is also putting out all of the cars' headlights as well. And no cell phone lights or flashlights work during that time either and it's starting to cause a lot of accidents.
There are eight blocks in downtown Tokyo that have taken to repeating endlessly. As you reach the end of the eight block, you find yourself stepping onto the first block again. No amount of turning or redirecting yourself will allow you to leave the eight blocks - until you stop by a cafe with a couple of bunny girls out front and make a purchase, that is.
Many in Tokyo want nothing more than to be on the cutting edge of technology! And there are some wealthy people who want to be even further ahead than everyone else. That's why they've sent out a general call for new types of technology to be brought to them. And if what you bring is impressive enough, you might get yourself a nice reward~
Several farms on the outskirts of the city have reported a very sudden and tremendous growth in their goats. That's right, there are two-story tall goats hanging out with the other farm animals. Other than being very large, they seem mostly the same. But since goats will eat anything, well... Let's just say a couple of farmers are going to need new barns soon.

Unless they want to use nice spirits to do their bidding, I don't particularly see why there's a need to collect them.

Unless someone was just stealing spirits to use for other purposes, and it didn't matter what kind they were. Someone collecting them was just a silly idea anyway!
[ Just another theory to add to the pile, because even the ridiculous was possible when a mystery was involved. Though this was a little serious. Not that bubbly tone changes, but it's back onto business. ]
No, it's probably something along the lines of a leak that they all came from. I could only imagine what the paperwork would be like.
[ Which is when a wooden oar is casually manifested in Botan's hand. Holding it in the air, she sits on it casually as the item stays steadily above the ground. ]
If there are still spirits that haven't possessed a body, hopefully we can track down where they're coming from, instead of where they're going.

Even if it's just a silly idea, it's still an idea. It wouldn't be good to simply discard it just because it's silly.
[Seriously, with all that he's been through and the people he's fought with, any idea can actually seem pretty reasonable. Take Kurosaki Ichigo, for example. That substitute Shinigami is full of bad ideas.
There's a bit of an eye twitch at the mention of paperwork, though he's quick to conceal the faint break in his demeanor.

A good place to start would be finding the source. They don't seem to be coming from a particular direction unless we grab one of those corpses and interrogate them.

[ Though she starts going higher up, just by another five or six feet. To stay a little further out of those corpse's grasp. Of course, to someone who didn't really know Botan (and let's be real, no one does. Not even Botan knows Botan,) it looked like the shinki was ready to shirk out of responsibilities. ]
However if it's a corpse you want to get information out of, I certainly won't be stopping you.
[ Actually, a teenage girl floating in the air was just the right kind of beacon to catch those cadaver's attentions. After all, what if she fell? ]

It's not as if he cares about her in the slightest so doing so wouldn't make him feel guilty in the least. Though, he does raise an eyebrow at her.]

[ She says that quite cheekily, but it's true. There are several concerned possessed bodies making their way over. ]

But he supposes he can't complain as he unsheathes his sword. As the corpses begin to make their way over, he points his sword at them. With a flick of his wrist, they're immediately encased in ice, the only exception being their heads.]

See? You have the pick of them all. That's hoping they could talk, of course.
[ Botan certainly talks on enough for everyone. ]

And she really does remind him more and more of his subordinates back home.]

Well, I suppose we'll have to try our luck with another one. I'd suggest forcing it out, but I doubt the answer would be any different. I was hoping for more than just nonsense, though.
[ It's not like these kinds of spirits have the best kind of mental defenses. ]

[Lifting his sword, the ice encases around a few of their heads.]

[ Yet she doesn't exactly elaborate on the matter. Instead she seems to be thinking a little seriously when looking around- trying to get a sense for the loosed spirits. Except it seems possible that all the ones that were possessing bodies were still in people.
Then comes a scenario she'd rather not have to pull through in doing. Just by what knowledge she has. ]
... About how long would you imagine it'd take to just return all these spirits? Just to let them be processed again, and tell someone in charge about the potential leak.

[Either way, Toushirou jumps into the air to get a better look at things.
His eyes narrow, concentrating on any bit of spiritual energy that can tell him where these spirits are coming from. If any Hollows were around, it'd be the perfect feeding ground for them.]
It'd take a few hours if their numbers keeps increasing.

Smoothly flying back up into the air, though it's certainly in a flashy manner with the occasional spin as she rounded about buildings during the climb up, Botan was taking a proper scan of the area. Visually and in trying to sense the situation about properly. Difference was, she couldn't compare or make any results based off of previous experience. All she had was raw knowledge, which didn't account for much with spirits interacting in the human world.
Eventually, the shinki does meet up with the captain. ]
Well, whatever seems to be happening, I can't sense a decrease or increase of spirit activity. Which is probably the better set of news we've had so far.

He's felt the same. There's been no changes; just the spiritual energy that he's been feeling ever since this whole thing began. No decrease and no increase - it's not the best news, but still news.
Teal eyes studies the spirits frozen on the ground.]
Gathering them in one place may seem ideal; at least, that way, they won't cause too much trouble otherwise.

[ Yet she blurts that out before realizing what that would mean. Which she realized when following his gaze back down to the frozen bodies that she had attracted. Which means leading all of those rotting corpses, some of which could be falling apart... Eugh.
It was the fastest way they had of dealing with them, though. ]
I'm stating this now that I'm not going to be playing bait or some monster magnet every time something comes up. This is a particular circumstance that isn't going to become a habit.

Toushirou certainly wasn't going to mention it. He does give her a side glance, expression betraying nothing.]

[Should he protest more? Maybe, but Botan seems like she can handle herself.]

If any of them touch me and shed, you're the one that's cleaning it afterwards.
[ Which she is quite serious about. It's right as she finishes saying that when Botan also starts flying back downwards, not really worrying about the angle or position she was flying in. Even when vertical or upside-down, the blue-haired girl was steady in her seat. It's about 10 or so feet above the ground that her flight slows down, starting around the outer perimeter of the 'problem' area, to herd them inwards. Aside from faking a wobbly flight pattern, rather plainly she announces to attract all of the possessed bodies. ]
Oh no. I'm afraid I'm feeling quite faint. I'm sure that I'll lose my seat any second.
[ You can't argue with results though, now could you? When being chivalrous was their only drive, this was the perfect bait for those spirits. ]

It'll be fine.
[You'll be fine.
But he'll stay above her, arms crossed over his chest as he watches her. His eyes narrow as he takes in the sight of the corpses following Botan. It makes him a little disgusted, if he were to be honest, at the sight of those corpses wobbling to reach Botan somehow.
Toushirou sighs, watching closely until the spirits were completely drawn in.]

So the young shinki continued to herd them into the first focal area, which was around the same point that they had attracted the original batch of possessed bodies. Once in a while she'd declare that she would 'absolutely faint at any second' and give a wobbly show until they were close enough. ]
Evacuating the first zone and leaving them to you!
[ It's a straight vertical climb into the sky, so high that Botan could be obscured by the sun's glare before she loops back to call out as she flew by the white-haired shinigami. As casual as she's taking this, Botan didn't hesitate with flying extremely quickly. ]
Rounding group two while you do that.
[ To which she's off to promptly repeat the process in creating a second gathering point for the rest of the loosed spirits. ]

Toushirou gives a short nod when she goes to round up the second group. Sword in hand, he waits for more of the first group to gather before he waves his sword. Ice flows out from the tip and rushes at the corpses with incredible speed.
In no time at all, the corpses were encased in ice.
Toushirou frowns slightly as he waits for Botan to return more with the corpses.]

The second grouping was taking a bit longer, as it involved getting some of the stragglers that were at the edge of the first zone she was working on. It was that and the shambling speed of a half-rotten corpse that was the real limitation of how quickly Botan could gather them up.
Eventually after that wait, Botan shoots back up into the air to signal the location and that they were ready for Toushirou's part in all of this. This is now her chance to pause and take a deep breath. ]
You really get appreciation for some fresh air when you're around enough rotting bodies in summer.

But the moment he sees that signal, he uses shunpo to get to her location quickly.
He arrives a few seconds later, already sending ice at the bodies and freezing them to the ground. No doubt that the humans would be afraid by all of the ice appearing, but it's better than having more spirits possess the dead. Once they're all frozen, Toushirou sends a glance at her, but says nothing else.]

The blue-haired reaper didn't glance back to the god however, instead focusing down towards the streets. She goes in a few different directions, not because her senses were lacking, but it was faster and more thorough to not have to stretch out her capabilities. It's about a minute before she finally confirms. ]
That does seem to be all of the unusual ones that have been causing problems. I think a god is out there with one of their soulless shinki, because those always give me a weird sense.

Right now, it's hard to properly decipher who's friend or foe.]
Even if a god is out there with a soulless, it doesn't mean they should immediately be ruled out as an enemy. Right now, at least, we've gotten them all together.
