TEST DRIVE # 17



Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.



Courtly Cadavers

Several dead bodies have very suddenly returned to life. Not only that, but they seem to be possessed by very courteous and polite spirits. So there are reports of half-rotten beings bowing down to young ladies and kissing their hands or holding open doors for other passersby. It's really nice, sure, but also really disturbing.

Dark Deeds

In the middle of the night, there is a spirit that keeps turning off all of the street lamps. Fortunately, there aren't many cars on the roads at this time. Unfortunately, the spirit is also putting out all of the cars' headlights as well. And no cell phone lights or flashlights work during that time either and it's starting to cause a lot of accidents.

Endless Eight

There are eight blocks in downtown Tokyo that have taken to repeating endlessly. As you reach the end of the eight block, you find yourself stepping onto the first block again. No amount of turning or redirecting yourself will allow you to leave the eight blocks - until you stop by a cafe with a couple of bunny girls out front and make a purchase, that is.

Further Forward

Many in Tokyo want nothing more than to be on the cutting edge of technology! And there are some wealthy people who want to be even further ahead than everyone else. That's why they've sent out a general call for new types of technology to be brought to them. And if what you bring is impressive enough, you might get yourself a nice reward~

Giant Goats

Several farms on the outskirts of the city have reported a very sudden and tremendous growth in their goats. That's right, there are two-story tall goats hanging out with the other farm animals. Other than being very large, they seem mostly the same. But since goats will eat anything, well... Let's just say a couple of farmers are going to need new barns soon.

That's because magic doesn't work like that. First of all it's not something everyone can use. It depends... [He hesitates a moment.] ...Well, some people are just born with this power, but it doesn't mean all of them can use it right away either. It takes practice but magic really allows you to do all kind of things, not only use fire just like I did, but also use wind, lighting, water, freeze something and even heal.

[He smiles. He's a nerd too.]

But here he is, a dead spirit that can perform borderlines so... Start believing in the impossible, Shion.

He smiles too.]

I think that's the best explanation I'll be able to get. Thank you. I suppose it's not so much different than shinki skills...

Endless Eight

[Merrill had been twirling around muttering to herself as she tried to figure out how she managed to get so lost this time. She had been so lost in thought she hadn't even noticed someone else was there until he spoke, and he gave her such a start she let out a yelp and whirled around so fast she nearly fell over.]

Oh what? A drink? [Oh. He was just a person with silly hair. That wasn't so startling, and he was trying to help too. How nice of him!] Do you think it will help? I was hoping for a ball of twine maybe, I left mine at home.

[Her thoughts jump before he even has an opportunity to answer her inquiry about twine, and she goes into another question that had been on her mind almost all night.]

Do you know why those women are dressed as rabbits? It looks cold.

[Oh, wincing.]

I don't have a lot of experience with gods yet.

[Then he looks unsure.]

Basic self-defense? I'm not that... [He's a noodle. But he turns into a gun, isn't that enough??]

Um... I suppose. Back home we call the kind of skills I can use artes. And there's one more thing about them. You can only learn artes of one of the six elements. In my case, I can't learn any different spells than fire spells.

[So it's not completely fairy tale like. There are rules to everything!]

...It's kind of amazing I can talk about this with someone else.

[He chuckles lightly.]

[Merrill was no stranger to the undead herself, however she was more familiar with the cranky variety. This one had caught her so off guard she just found herself staring as it approached, until the young boy came to her rescue.

And oh wasn't he just precious? Not very understanding though, the dead man was being rather nice, and she didn't want him to get all cranky and bitey and stabby like the ones back home.]

Oh um, but thank you anyway. You were very nice...[She struggled to find something kind to say to the undead in return. He probably was having a hard time being dead and all, so he probably needed some encouragement!] I hope you find the rest of your face, I'm sure it will look very nice all... back.. together...again.

[She trailed of as a shiver ran up her spine, because thinking about it, she realized he was really quite icky.]

Endless Eight

[Merrill looks at the woman wide-eyed and nearly in tears. After hours of being lost herself having someone talk to her was enough for her to tell the story she'd been bottling up for hours as she was lost.]

Oh I thought it was just me! I have been walking in circles all night, I passed by the same crack on the street nine times, and at first I thought "oh maybe there are just a lot of cracks that look alike" but then I kept seeing it, and it just seemed like the same crack, but I should be getting home because it's late and I get lost so easily in the dark, and I don't even have my ball of twine to help.

They can't be reasoned with. [In her experience with these kinds of things, anyway. She hasn't actually tried with these ones, but there's no reason to when she can spend her time searching for the root of the problem instead.]

They're not making much trouble yet. If you're done here, let's look around for what's doing this.

The street repeats. [She lifts her hand to show an old-timey compass, the needle swinging wildly.]

How long have you been walking?

If that powder was in your coat, I don't think they're the culprit.

[She initiates a stare-down with the nearest goat, but it doesn't pay any attention to her.]

[A tiny bob of light floats over to him.]

You. [Sorry, guy, here's a lady standing right in front of him all of a sudden.]

Dark Deeds

[The thought of accidents and lights going out without warnings has given Makoto plenty of reason to investigate, but when she rolls into this area of town on a strange motorcycle and realizes that it's headlights have winked out as well, she's realizes the full extent of the problem. Stepping off, the machine vanishing, she holds up a fist. Blue flame, an unnatural, almost radioactive seeming color surrounds it as she starts walking.

Pausing at the gap between two buildings, she peers into the darkness, her light source casting weird shadows in the gloom. A motion to one side catches her eye, and without thinking she sets herself into a fighting stance.

Calling out in a stentorian challenge, Makoto's voice rings out down an alley.]

Come out! There's no point in hiding down there!


Endless Eight

[Tokyo is a familiar enough place for Makoto, easy enough to move around in, but this district is new. She's not familiar at all with it, and so she marches through quickly, intent on making her way towards the next ward. Except, poof. Right back at the start. Blinking in surprise, she looks around at the humans nearby and goggles at you. Clearly you have all the answers, don't you?]

H-How?

[Again with the unexpected, though this time with a bit of warning, Makoto stops on the outskirts of the farm and marvels at the enormous billy goat that's currently chewing on a tractor. It's...]

Magnificent. Impossible, but, certainly magnificent.

[Turning to whoever came with her, she flashes a smile.]

Why don't we go see if we can find him something more appropriate for dinner?

[His tone holds a note of warning.]

[Shion stares at Toushirou with a quiet expression. If gods were like the ones from stories, he can believe that.]

I ... Don't get me wrong. I want to be able to protect myself.

[asterflower]

[Shion nods in understanding.] Specializing in one element seems like an efficient way to do things.

Ahhh...? [He looks a bit flattered.] It's nice to hear about new concepts! I just wish I could tell you more about where I come from as well.

[Just shinki things.]

[The undead seems to look as if he was about to argue, but Toushirou raises an eyebrow at it.

It seems to get the undead to look sheepish enough to finally back off, even though it seems to want to try and get closer again.]

Leave.

[His tone is cold, chilling even that it has the undead scrambling away before it gets frozen.]

You think there is anything?

[But either way, he'll start moving.]

But you don't seem all that confident.

[A curious glance, though his expression reveals nothing else.]

[ Sir are you implying white hair and weird eyes invites trouble? Would you also imply weird red facial marks bring the same...?!

(Oh.)

Still, the yelp draws Allen from his own somewhat confused distracted thoughts as he was trying to debate how exactly... one... deals with goats the size of buildings... it's not like you can just. Fight them. It's a little weird even for him.

Which is also why after a moment Shion might notice he's not alone—and that another white-haired boy has appeared. The archangel-god settling down from seemingly nowhere at his side as lightly as a ghost—as white and seeming to glow softly as one too, wrapped as he is in an downy white cloak trimmed in gold, a mask of silver and gold nestled in the fluff. ]

Please try to hold on—

[ Such straightforward and polite concern...! Like he does this all the time.

And also the only warning Shion will get before Allen loops an arm around his middle and lifts him up. Be glad it's the right (and mostly human) one? ]

[Is that better or worse? Riza's not sure how she feels knowing she's not the only one who seems lost, but if it's bad enough that they both noticed it...]

I didn't notice any cracks but some of the shops kept repeating. I thought they were just similar, but now I'm not so sure.

[ Pidge opens her eyes, only to see the "magic". Her eyes lit up as she itched with questions about the other's sword, but she immediately tried to focus. The lights flickered some more as she tried to keep talking to them. ]

[As far as she knows, Riza's never seen a compass do that before.
Something's obviously amiss.]

Long enough to realize I wasn't getting anywhere. You?

Don't lose focus.

[His words are sharp, making sure Pidge doesn't pay him too much attention.

He approaches the spirit as it tries to free itself from the ice that imprisons it, but a flick of his wrist has the ice creeping up until everything but its head is kept under ice.]
