TEST DRIVE # 15

Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.

Sneaky Snakes

There are a number of snakes that have become possessed by a bunch of very sneaky ayakashi. They are slithering around, silently, snaring unsuspecting passersby into their trap - their trap to steal money. That's right, these snakes are busy snatching bills and coins from whoever they can. Try to put a stop to their thieving ways, or perhaps get thieved by them yourself.

Tummy Troubles

Many of the customers of a certain restaurant are complaining of the fact that their stomachs hurt after eating there. It could just be food poisoning, but many of these people are winding up in critical condition after a couple of days. It's time to figure out what the heck this cook is actually putting in the food.

Underwhelming Underwear

A family run business has been selling underwear for generations, but the underwear they sell is super boring and bland. Nobody wants to buy from them when cooler underwear is just around the corner. They've asked you to help them bring customers back in - by making their boring underwear seem as cool and hip as possible! How you do that is up to you.

Vividly Violet

There are so many ayakashi making their way through the air that at sunset the sky is turning an absolutely gorgeous shade of purple. Near Shore residents are reacting to this in varying ways. Many are delighted by the beautiful sky, but just as many are terrified that it's a sign of the end of times. Try to take down some ayakashi to make the sky less purple. Or just sit back and watch the beauty.

Wonder Wall

Anyways, there's this college boy who won't stop playing his acoustic guitar. He's from the US and is trying to pick up Japanese chicks. By now he should've somehow realized that they're totally not interested in him. But the song just keeps getting louder and louder and all that the people near the campus can hope is that today is gonna be the day that he stops playing. Maybe you're gonna be the one that saves them.

[If Gohan doesn't know anything about Goten's full strength, then what kind of brother would he be? After all, he's trained with Goten before, trained with him several times, especially leading up to the World Martial Arts Tournament. Even so, he doesn't let up, grinning a bit when Goten dodges his kick.

Just barely, but still quick.

So Goten hasn't really lost his edge, but Gohan can tell that he's holding back. He's quick to brace himself as Goten comes at him in a flurry. Each punch and kick is countered with his own. Gohan doesn't let up, going at full strength in order to get Goten to use his.

Come on, little bro. It's okay to go all out on him.]

[Okay so holding back is getting harder to do! Even has Gohan matches him blow for blow, he can feel the raw power in each of his attacks. Even when Goten is blocking or matching attacks, it does hurt a little, making his muscles strain against the hits. Knowing what's coming or blocking it is tiring because they're strong hits! This is a different sparing then he's done before.

It's....fun!

Goten's push forward starts to become a fall back as Gohan doesn't let up. How is this god keeping up with him so well? He does his best to fend Gohan off before suddenly flying backwards. He holds his hands out, focusing his energy in both hands before tossing the two Ki blasts at Gohan.]

[So he hasn't really kept up training. Not enough to stand up to his attacks when he had no trouble before. No, Gohan realizes, maybe it's because there isn't another Saiyan around to have Goten go all out?

But it's fun. Gohan has always enjoyed sparring with his brother or any of their friends really. He's a fighter at heart, but he's not like their father who only ever thinks about fighting.

As Goten flies backward, Gohan recognizes the familiar gathering of Ki and braces himself. He doesn't move, body tense before he knocks the two blasts away from him with his hands.]

What?!

[Goten gapes at Gohan, eyes widening. This guy just knocked his blast away with his bare hands! What the heck is he?

Ah-! No time for that now! Goten gathers more Ki in his hands and tosses a couple more small Ki blasts at Gohan, trying to slow him down, before quickly cupping his hands together and pulling them to his side. He focuses even more Ki between his palms. Gotta do this fast! He still can't control this beam too well but Izumo has helped him along with it. Bit by bit.]

Ka..me...Ka..me...

[The bright blue energy in his hands swells. It's the same brilliant shade of blue that he first spotted Gohan using. Goten's a little worried, he hesitant for the smallest second. That worry, though he just met Gohan, reflects in his dark oynx eyes clearly inconstant to the glowing blue hue of the blast. He's only used it on training dummies ~~and part of a temple~~...not a living person. But if Gohan can deflect his blasts, then this will be a good test to see how he handles something much stronger. Gohan did say to show him what he's learned....this is part of that!]

HAAAA!

[Thrusting his hands forward, the familiar beam flies directly for Gohan]

[Gohan watches Goten carefully.

He knocks more of those Ki blasts away from him before he notices Goten cupping his hands together. Immediately, he feels the surge of Ki forming between his palms.

There's a fleeting thought if he should form his own blast, but the force of two Kamehameha blasts might be enough to destroy the city below them. Instead, he braces himself, waiting for that beam to come at him. In the direction of the blast, the city below is a good target, but Gohan can tell enough that Goten's blast isn't as strong as it should be.

Then again, he doesn't exactly have time to think about it either as he cups his own hands.]

Kamehameha! [Both beams meet head-on.]

[He saw the blast before but hearing him say it, it clearly sounds like his own attack. Well, almost.

Goten tenses when the two beams collide with each other. He half expects there to be a big explosion or something upon impact. There is a wave of power ripples through the air but the beams push at each other. Goten keeps his hands out.

He...he really doesn't know what to do here. The two beams are pushing at one another. While he may not remember what to do, its when Gohan's beams starts to push a little too much that Goten narrows his eyes and tries to push more of his power into his own. Ki is surging from his body and into the beam.]

[Good, Goten.

At least those fighting instincts were still there. Gohan wouldn't be sure what to do if he accidentally hurt his brother while the other had no memories. But it seems his fighting instincts are kicking in.

He resists the urge to turn into a Super Saiyan, to overpower the younger. It's not really his intent to win so much as it is to test out how far along Goten's gotten while being in this place. So, he adds more of his Ki into the beam, a flare of Ki appearing around him in a protective cocoon.]

[Goten pushes even more of his own energy into the the beam, but it's not enough to take the lead and push it back in Gohan's direction. They end up at a stand still again until Gohan's beam slowly, inch by inch, starts to overtake his.

Wait, what happens if he can't push it back? They're both putting a lot of ki into the struggle....and it's getting closer to him, he can't hold it!

Letting go of the beam, he pushes out his energy around himself like Hakkai taught him. The ki surrounds Goten almost like a protective bubble before the beam over takes him. Clenching his eyes shut and keeps his hands out as he braces for impact. The barrier holds around Goten, preventing the blast from doing any damage. Though he may have put too much energy into too suddenly. It makes him wobble a bit in the air before barrier vanishes and he drops from the sky.]

Goten!

[Gohan is quick to fly down to his brother, grabbing him and gently holding him as he floats.

He looks down at him, making sure there aren't any injuries. Gohan knows he didn't put in his entire strength into that blast, that wouldn't be fair on Goten at all, but at the same time, he didn't mean to knock his brother out from the sky.

Nimbus comes, floating beside the two demi saiyans as Gohan gently prods Goten.]

You okay?

[Goten pants softly, catching his breath. He's not injuries at all, he's a bit just worn out and maybe overwhelmed. He may have a lot of Ki, but he's still learning how to better control it all over again. Only this time around its not a gradual process. Growing up with Ki and gradually getting stronger and better control over it is different then starting off with a lot of Ki and having no memory it of how to control it.

He opens his eyes, peeking up at Gohan briefly before blinking several times. A huge smile appears as his eyes light up and he shoots up in Gohan's arms.]

That was so amazing! No matter what I did, I couldn't beat you. You really are strong, Gohan!

[He holds back a sigh of relief. Good, not injured. Though, he wonders if he should help Goten get his stamina and Ki control better again.

He laughs, grinning at him.]

You're pretty strong yourself, Goten. At the rate you're going, you might even be able to beat me one day.

Beat you? You really think so? Oh wow! I hope so....I mean, you better train lots or I'mma catch up super fast!

[That would be even better. If he can beat Gohan then maybe one day he can beat Izumo and Hakkai! No way anyone would stand a chance and hurt his friends then.

Is he out of energy? Ki wise, he's tired but he's as excited as ever now.]

Don't get too ahead of yourself. I'm not going to let you beat me.

[He'll definitely be around for Goten to spar with, at least.

Gohan ruffles his hair, unable to resist the action.]

So you better train hard, too.

[Goten just grins!]

I will! I will! And I don't want you to let me beat you. That's no fun! But just you wait, Imma keep getting stronger and maybe next time I'll knock you out of the sky.

[If anything this is only encouraging Goten to get stronger and keep training. He's never met someone that could do all the things he could--and then more! Gohan is amazing. He's going to be super tough to beat but Goten isn't really one for giving up either. Stubbornness is also something that runs in their blood.

He laughs at the hair ruffle. For being a new person he only met just minutes prior there's just something about Gohan that makes him feel safe. Like no matter what happens, Gohan will always be there like some kind of super hero. It's a weird fimilar feeling that Goten doesn't focus too much on. It just feels like he's known the teenager all his life.

Of course, that's not true....Gohan must just have something about him. It helps that Nimbus seems fond of him too.]

Thanks Gohan!

Ha, we'll just have to see about that.

[It's so easy to get lost in this familiar banter. Gohan edging Goten on, to get his brother to be the best he could be. He knows Goten and Trunks spar with one another, but sometimes, it's nice to have goals set in front of you.

He knows that stubborness though. They wouldn't be Goku's sons or even have Saiyan blood in them if it weren't for that.

Gohan grins at him. So familiar, yet he knows he can't do much more than be there for Goten whenever he can.]

You're welcome, little guy. [A pause as his stomach growls.

Oops.] You wouldn't happen to know a good place to eat around here, would you?

Do I?! Izumo makes some of the best food around! [Goten's face lights up but he quickly blinks. Didn't the older shinki say he'd be out doing stuff today? Hmmm. Goten settles down looking thoughtful as he crosses his arms. Think Goten, think. If not Izumo's place, then where else.]

But I think he had stuff to do today. Besides that I usually just eat a home. I don't think Aymeric would mind if you wanted to eat there too. I'm pretty hungry after sparring with you.

This Izumo sounds like a good friend of yours. [That's good, at least.

Aaaand there's a new name.

Aymeric. Was this person a god or shinki? Even though Goten just said that this person seems to live with Goten. Guess he'll just have to find out. He laughs, grinning a bit.]

Then let's see if Aymeric wouldn't mind having me over to eat. I don't wanna intrude.

He is! He's one of my best friends! He runs a bar and makes some of the best food.

[Izumo's place is like a home away from home with 'home' being Aymeric's temple.]

I don't think he'd mind-Hey! I know! Gohan! Wanna race there? I've never got to race anyone that could fly before. Well, besides Nimbus but I'm faster!

A bar?

[Goten, why are you going to a bar?! Do you even know what a bar is!?

He blinks before he smiles.]

Sure. It'll be fun, but I don't know what Aymeric'w temple looks like.

Ahuh! I go there all the time! I think he makes funny smelling drinks and stuff too but the food is the best!

[Even if he's repeating himself, he's going to keep calling Izumo's food the best because it is. This bar is his second home Gohan. There's nothing wrong with a child going to a bar!]

OH right. I guess you wouldn't huh?

[Goten pushes his thumb to his mouth thoughtfully as he hums.]

What do you know?

You don't go there at night, do you?

[He needs to talk to this Izumo. WHO LETS A CHILD INTO A BAR? But Gohan doesn't want to do anything to upset Goten either, especially since this Izumo sounds like a good person overall.

A blink before he rubs the back of his head.]

Just where my temple is. How about this? Nimbus knows the direction of the temple, right? We can let Nimbus fly ahead of us and whoever catches up to it at Aymeric's temple wins.

Izumo doesn't let me. Maybe one day...

[Sadly, he doesn't get too. Just before night, Goten is usually sent home much to his disappointment. It does make him curious about it though.

OHH but the race!]

Should I give you a headstart then, Gohan? [grin~!]

Maybe there's a reason.

[He's grown up with Master Roshi, Bulma, and a lot of bad influences, after all. Though, it's only always Master Roshi who gets drunk the most.

He looks amused.]

How about you go first, Goten? [Smiles.] If you're really as fast as you say you are, then you don't need to worry about me catching up to you.

If you say so.

[He's not use to this. No way Gohan can beat him at flying though. He pats Nimbus, giving the cloud the signal to take off. It blasts off ahead, making a course right for Aymeric's temple.]

Just don't get lost, okay?

[And that should give Nimbus just enough of a head start to beat them to Aymeric's. Or at least he thinks so. Giving a wave, Goten blasts off after the yellow cloud. Bye Gohan!]

[Lips quirk up into an amused smile.

He waits a minute, watching Nimbus and Goten blast off, and immediately locks onto his brother's ki. He's not sure if Goten is able to properly sense ki yet or even remembered how to, but at least this way, Gohan wouldn't get lost too much.

It doesn't hurt to cheat a bit.

But once that minute passes, Gohan is quick to fly in the direction of Goten and Nimbus. He's a more experienced flier than Goten, so it wouldn't really take long for him to catch up to the younger demi saiyan.]
