TEST DRIVE # 14



Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.



Noxious Neurotoxins

There's a few blocks of Tokyo that have been closed off completely and quarantined. It seems there's a deadly neurotoxin that's been detected in the area. But authorities claim there's no way that could have happened! Looks like this might be the work of an ayakashi. Try not to get infected.

Omnipresent Obituary

The same obituary has been showing up in the papers for the last three weeks. It's for a young boy who died in a car accident. Thing is, this accident happened more than twenty years ago. A little ghost boy is just looking for some attention by printing his own death announcement over and over again. Spend a little time with him, would you?

Pretentious Partner

A detective hailed as the greatest in his field has one heck of a time keeping a partner. But he needs one bad, so he's calling on random strangers to help him out. Unfortunately, he's very full of himself and not even that good at his job. Maybe that's why all his partners leave. It's up to you to help or hurt him!

Quick Quips

Time to step up to the mic and make some jokes. A local bar needs performers - specifically comedic ones. You'd better be quick with your jokes or the audience is going to boo you off the stage, and then you won't get the payment you've been promised for doing a good job! Oh, and this is a request from a devote follower, so you'll lose that support too.

Radical Roombas

Some off-the-wall ayakashi have possessed a number of Roombas and are busily terrorizing people on the streets. That's right - small, round, automated vacuum cleaners are bothering the people of Tokyo. What's more, some kid thought it would be funny to tape knives to some of them. Watch out for Stabby and try to take out the spirit possessing it.

Roomba!

[rainbowmaster]

[Talking horse.

No, not a horse - a pegasus? Johan's sure he can hear Sapphire Pegasus let out a disgruntled sound, but he ignores the Duel Spirit for now as he watches in awe as Celestia flies up into the air.

Before the Roomba notices him and he jumps back onto a bench, hand instinctively reaching for his Deck.]

Are you okay? [He calls up to Celestia, a hint of concern on his face.]

[letteropener]

They didn't harm me. [Celestia checks her hoof instinctively to make sure she's telling the truth -- but yes, she is. Blood would show up very clearly against her fur.] But I do not understand how they are moving.

[rainbowmaster]

Ayakashi are possessing them.

[He crouches a bit on the bench, watching the Roomba move from side to side.]

Using our god powers might help in getting rid of them.

[letteropener]

I am not entirely certain my powers as a god will assist -- but my magic may be able to go a ways to dealing with them. Do you have a suggestion? [With a sweep of her wings, she crosses the distance between them, settling into a hover above the bench so they can face the creatures together.]

[rainbowmaster]

We may be able to purify them before they do any more damage.

[And since Celestia's magic has proven to be somewhat useful, then perhaps Johan can do something, too?

Well, it's a try.

Johan draws a card from his deck, glances at it and concentrates.

Soon enough, a beast emerges out of thin air.]

Amethyst Cat, mind lending your help? [The cat gives a nod.]

[letteropener]

Now that is an impressive power. [Celestia is not so focused that she cannot spare him a quick smile, before she turns her attention back to the machine.] I will pin it down, and then you can strike.

[rainbowmaster]

[Both Johan and Amethyst Cat nods.]

Alright, ready when you are.

[letteropener]

[Brilliant gold lights up Celestia's horn as she seizes the Roomba in a matching glow of magic, then lifts it off the ground with a flick of her head.] There!

[rainbowmaster]

Go!

[Amethyst Cat charges forward and proceeds to shred the Roomba to bits.

It doesn't matter if it's metal; the beast does a good job in tearing it apart.]

[letteropener]

[Celestia blinks slightly, not because of the cat's ferocity but...]

What is inside of that thing?

[rainbowmaster]

I'm assuming you've never seen a machine before?

[He places a hand on top of Amethyst Cat, a light caress before the beast disperses.]

[letteropener]

Not like this. [Celestia drops down to the ground once more, lowering her head to appraise the shredded machine more closely.] Definitely not like this. I understand now why my dispel had no effect.

Is this common here?

[rainbowmaster]

[Johan gets off of the bench, glancing at the shredded machine.

That's one out of the many, but at least the ayakashi can't possess a broken beyond repair machine.]

It is. [Welcome to a world of technology, Celestia.]

[letteropener]

Oh, that's incredible! [She practically radiates delight and curiosity as she straightens up. It wasn't the machine's fault the ayakashi had tampered with it, after all.] I never realized so many of the things I see around here must be like that inside.

[rainbowmaster]

Realizing and understanding how it works can help a long way, too.

[A glance around.]

It's too bad the ayakashi are possessing it, though.

[letteropener]

I would very much like to learn about these things. Do you know of how I might be able to?

[Considering her circumstances -- species, for one, and total lack of technological grounding -- a conventional class is obviously not the best choice for her.]

[rainbowmaster]

Usually learning things first-hand is a good chance to start.

[He shifts a bit. How exactly can he help her learn more about technology?]

But your magic - or whatever it is - it might be able to help you understand it better, especially since we have to use phones to communicate.

[letteropener]

This is a little embarrassing... [Celestia, ever serene and calm, doesn't sound embarrassed in the slightest.] But I had believed they were magic too, up until this moment.

[rainbowmaster]

[A blink before Johan laughs quietly.]

It's no wonder why you've attempted to use magic at first then. [He doesn't seem particularly bothered by the idea of magic either, at least.]

Welcome to a world of technology then...? [Right, introductions.] My name is Johan. What about you?

[letteropener]

I am Princess Celestia. It's very nice to meet you, Johan. [She inclines her head to him with perfect regal grace, having long ago mastered the dignity of meeting and greeting.] And thank you very much for your help.

[rainbowmaster]

Not at all.

[He smiles brightly.]
