TEST DRIVE # 14



Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.



Noxious Neurotoxins

There's a few blocks of Tokyo that have been closed off completely and quarantined. It seems there's a deadly neurotoxin that's been detected in the area. But authorities claim there's no way that could have happened! Looks like this might be the work of an ayakashi. Try not to get infected.

Omnipresent Obituary

The same obituary has been showing up in the papers for the last three weeks. It's for a young boy who died in a car accident. Thing is, this accident happened more than twenty years ago. A little ghost boy is just looking for some attention by printing his own death announcement over and over again. Spend a little time with him, would you?

Pretentious Partner

A detective hailed as the greatest in his field has one heck of a time keeping a partner. But he needs one bad, so he's calling on random strangers to help him out. Unfortunately, he's very full of himself and not even that good at his job. Maybe that's why all his partners leave. It's up to you to help or hurt him!

Quick Quips

Time to step up to the mic and make some jokes. A local bar needs performers - specifically comedic ones. You'd better be quick with your jokes or the audience is going to boo you off the stage, and then you won't get the payment you've been promised for doing a good job! Oh, and this is a request from a devote follower, so you'll lose that support too.

Radical Roombas

Some off-the-wall ayakashi have possessed a number of Roombas and are busily terrorizing people on the streets. That's right - small, round, automated vacuum cleaners are bothering the people of Tokyo. What's more, some kid thought it would be funny to tape knives to some of them. Watch out for Stabby and try to take out the spirit possessing it.

"Pretentious is my middle name":

[Takuma decides to take this whole detective thing way too far. He is dressed in a long trench coat that he found at a thrift store and a detective cap that he found at a costume shop. He has a magnifying glass that has enlarged his bright, spring green eye as he zooms in on something of very little importance.]

You! You're looking rather suspicious there...

[His smile curls into a cat-like grin. He's obviously just playing around and not taking this seriously.]

May I interrogate you?

"Get the cane ready for this one":

[As Takuma's come to realize after having rented dozens of rakugo dvds and binge watching them, he's a lover of comedy. Anything that makes him laugh can tickle his fancy so why not tickle other people?]

Let me tell you about the time I accidentally cursed someone. You're interested, right?

[Of course he never cursed anyone, but this was the start to a really strange joke.]

Pretentious

[ A vampire. The moment he senses him, Zero goes on the pursuit. It doesn't take him long track him down and when he does, he stops.

Takuma. ]

What are you doing here.

Pretentious | I'm just gonna make up some assumed CR for the luls if it's okay?

[ He certainly did and some part of Ichiru found the whole thing ridiculous, especially the trench coat and everything that he put on, to finding it quite humoring.

It was humoring until he was looking at Takuma and he was no trying to interrogate him. He casually pushes the other aside with a brief sigh from his lips. ]

Must you continue to fool around, Takuma-san? We'll never get this job done if you keep messing around.

[ He would like the experience points thanks. ]

I'm working on the latest and greatest case!

[He waves the magnifying glass around vaguely.]

Whatever that was. The detective I'm working with started talking too much, so I stopped paying attention. Hahaha! Oops!

That is a-okay!

[katanas_and_tea]

[He lets out a short sigh.]

But that's how a good detective finds clues! It's always by accident.

[Someone has been reading too many mystery novels in his spare time.]

[ Ichiru crosses his arm. He's all for messing around normally but this was something he wanted to get over quickly. ]

Do they now? Only idiots would think such things are possible.

[ Get your head out of the books. ]

In any case, what have you actually discovered, if anything? Are assisting this detective or not?

[katanas_and_tea]

[There's a pout before it disappears right into a smile.]

Not really. I'm not a fan of him.

[He presses his hands together.]

But it was fun picking out this outfit.

What about you, Ichiru-kun? Have you actually been looking for clues this whole time?

[forsakens]

[ Ichiru isn't easily swayed by pouting, so he appreciates Ichijou's smile rather than his pouts. ]

I suppose we are both on the same page on the matter.

[ In fact, Ichiru detests an entitled individual like nobody's business. ]

You really find interest in the strangest things. I have been. None of the clues seem to make me want to assist him anymore than I do currently. Humans can be so selfish. I heard from a neighbor that he was bickering with his last partner. So much as to punch them to prove his point. Such vulgarity.

Eeeeh? Really?

I'm not a big fan of violence like that.

[He taps his magnifying glass to his chin.]

I've got it, Watson!

We should sabotage this whole case so that it looks like the detective himself did it. It's the perfect plot twist.

Yes. It's incredibly easy to gather intel when you ask the right questions. Once he started talking, he continued to do so.

[ Ichiru gives him an almost flat stare for that comment following though. ]

Sabotaging would be putting it lightly. Though, the idea sounds rather, fun.

[Takuma smiles happily at that.]

Let's do it, then! Since we're shinki and can't really be seen by people, we can plant clues in just the right place to make the detective look suspicious.

Obituary

[There was something...very unsettling upon seeing recent news about a young boy who's been dead for twenty years. So, when he finally does go to look for the little boy, just to see if he's still wandering about and lingering, Johan ignores the curious looks he gets.

Anyone with the ability to might be able to see this little creature perched on top of his shoulder.]

Do you see him, Ruby? [The little creature shakes its head and Johan breathes out, eyebrows furrowed.] Well, can't stop here. Let's keep going.

Radical Roombas

Were those vacuums running rampant?

For someone who's seen so many things, Johan would like to think things were somewhat calmer in what can be considered 'Heaven'.

Was it because of those ayakashi things?

Johan doesn't really have much time before he dodges a few Roombas that decide to charge at him, quickly turning tail and running for it.]

[Having mystical knowledge and powers helped in this case, as Kikyo was able to form a barrier to surround her and any shinki that were accompanying her to at least stave off the poisons. Being able to perceive the source of the toxins was going to take some time as she wasn't used to the alleyways and buildings of the modern world, but that was something experience would be able to fix with time. Making her way through the streets, she kept on alert, noiseless.]

[Were kids in this era all such brats? Maybe not, but Kikyo found herself dreading trying to go back a third time to convince the child to stop messing with the news. Usually she was okay with children, but they were usually alive. Not so much in this case. Perhaps having died so young, even their mind or spirit couldn't mature? In any case, it seemed like a situation with no winners, and as she made her way to the place the childish spirit usually haunted.]

[Kikyo couldn't stand a lot of things, and idiots taking credit for everyone else's work was one of them. How would she deal with this situation? She looked at her shinki and hoped for some guidance in this manner, because if it were up to her, she'd leave the detective alone to rot, maybe. Or give up altogether in a spectacular fashion. Poetic justice was still a thing, wasn't it?]

[Comedy was not something Kikyo was good at. Luckily, there was a form of comedy where even un-funny people could participate! Playing the "straight-man", Kikyo is now at the mercy of her comedy partner to be the mood-maker and hopefully carry the act. Looking her shinki dead in the eye, she inhaled, and spoke.]

How's the weather?

How childish.

[Luckily, wearing wooden sandals worked in this case since they were slightly higher than the majority of the roombas. Unless they gained the power of fly. Then mayhaps they were all boned. Nocking her arrows into her bow, she aimed and quickly attempted to dispatch them from a distance.]

[ Zero stares at him, unsure how to approach. Does he know who he is? What he is? Zero's quiet for a long moment before finally speaking. ]

You shouldn't leave your partner behind.

[He has no idea about anything about his past, so good luck with this one. He's just pure whimsy now.]

I'm not that concerned about him. I'm just trying to have a little fun while I help out.

[He smiles. He's clearly not helping out at all.]

Let's start with an easy question:

That statement makes no logical sense.

If anything, a smile is more similar to a crescent shape, making it more lunar in nature than solar.

It makes perfect sense because it's alliteration. Sunny smile. See? Moony smile is something else entirely. [He winks exaggeratedly.]

I suppose not. We can if that what you feel up to doing. You've never struck me as the mischievous type, Takuma-san. I'm almost baffled.

[ Ichiru replied offering him a typical smile. ]

What sort of clues are we using to frame him with anyhow?

Is a "moony smile" a ritual that summons a phase of the moon? That could come in handy for manipulating tidal waves...

If I seemed like the mischievous type, then I could never get up to any mischief. [He winks]

[His brows furrow as he looks serious.]

It would help if I knew what the case was about.

[It's actually cute that she's so bad at this. But the show must go on, right?]

Are we trying to wash away smiles now?

I did hear of a rite that when a child utters a vulgarity, it is customary to wash their mouth with soap and water.

I suppose it's only a matter if said child is smiling at the time. I can't imagine soap taste especially good.

[Twenty years ago. It was a long time to be wandering after ones death. And the young boy obviously knew he was dead to be continuously reprinting his obituary. He wasn't a completely lost spirit in the same vein Cartaphilus had spoken about in that dream of hers. Or -- well, not a dream exactly.

By now Chise is wandering the city looking for any sight of the boy. Or "feeling" for him, that is.]

Maybe he's where the accident happened.

[Frankly Chise doesn't know what to make of any of this. She vaguely knows about roombas yes but she's never really seen one. And she certainly hasn't seen one with a knife taped to it.

Her expression looks both disbelieving and exasperated.]

Is this really what gods do all day?
