TEST DRIVE # 14

Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.

Noxious Neurotoxins

There's a few blocks of Tokyo that have been closed off completely and quarantined. It seems there's a deadly neurotoxin that's been detected in the area. But authorities claim there's no way that could have happened! Looks like this might be the work of an ayakashi. Try not to get infected.

Omnipresent Obituary

The same obituary has been showing up in the papers for the last three weeks. It's for a young boy who died in a car accident. Thing is, this accident happened more than twenty years ago. A little ghost boy is just looking for some attention by printing his own death announcement over and over again. Spend a little time with him, would you?

Pretentious Partner

A detective hailed as the greatest in his field has one heck of a time keeping a partner. But he needs one bad, so he's calling on random strangers to help him out. Unfortunately, he's very full of himself and not even that good at his job. Maybe that's why all his partners leave. It's up to you to help or hurt him!

Quick Quips

Time to step up to the mic and make some jokes. A local bar needs performers - specifically comedic ones. You'd better be quick with your jokes or the audience is going to boo you off the stage, and then you won't get the payment you've been promised for doing a good job! Oh, and this is a request from a devote follower, so you'll lose that support too.

Radical Roombas

Some off-the-wall ayakashi have possessed a number of Roombas and are busily terrorizing people on the streets. That's right - small, round, automated vacuum cleaners are bothering the people of Tokyo. What's more, some kid thought it would be funny to tape knives to some of them. Watch out for Stabby and try to take out the spirit possessing it.

[There's a flicker of surprise in Johan's eyes, but he's quick to jump onto the bench.]

Do things like this happen al the time?

Depends on what you mean...

[He's distracted while he says so, looking down at their problem; the Roombas are going to swarm the bench, so they'll have to move eventually.]

[He looks Johan over—no visible vessel name, but Fubuki's can't be seen easily, either.] Hey, are you a god...?

[He eyes the Roomba as well.

If these are ayakashi, then they would have to manage to do something right?

But when Fubuki asks him that question, his attention is caught and he holds back a frown. While he never really got to know Fubuki, Johan still considered him a friend.

A friend who's been turned into a shinki, and there's the thought of how Fubuki managed to have died, but:]

I am. The name's Johan.

Nice to meet you. If you're a god, then I'll...

[These things are ayakashi, so borderlines should work. He draws a line in a small clear space between Roombas. Two seconds later, the line fails to two of the mechanical terrors' gentle shoving.]

[ ... ]

... Let's make a jump for it!

[Aaaand there he goes.]

[Johan lets out a sound of surprise, quickly jumping after Fubuki.]

Wait!

[Considering there aren't even that many Roombas, he made a jump that a child could make, yayy. Kind of lessens the dramatic impact of that declaration that they jump...]

Hm?

[He gives an embarrassed chuckle.] Well, we couldn't play bait forever!

[Listen, he's still recovering from his time in that Dark World.

Being brought here doesn't make things easier for him.

Even so, Johan lands beside Fubuki, a glance at the Roomba.]

It'd be better if there's a way to properly fight these things off.

[He does feel a little silly for that overdramatic display for what ended up being such a small jump, but at the same time, he seems used to doing things like that somehow.]

There is, but... [He totally failed at it.] ...as you saw, I couldn't manage it...

[And these things are way less scary than spooky forest, so he isn't taking them as seriously as he probably should. That said...]

Do you think they'd short out if we lead them to water?

[Johan would feel a bit more...sheepish about his own reaction if it weren't for the fact the Roomba was still running rampant.

Ruby mewls at his shoulder, nudging him and Johan tilts his head at his Spirit.]

That can work.

[He looks around.]

But if these are ayakashi, would it actually work?

Haha...probably not. [Might be worthwhile if they could lead them away from other people, though not being able to touch them might become an issue. He'll have to try borderlines again eventually, but...]

For the time being, let's get away from here.

Alright.

[Johan gestures for him to lead.]

You can lead. I still don't know my way around here.

[Someplace the Roombas can't reach but would still be in sight...]

How's your climbing?

Not bad. [Wait.

Why is he asking?] Where do you plan on going?

We want them to still follow us, so we have to be in sight while we get away. [So, a tree or some outdoor stairs. The park bench might have worked, but he didn't like being surrounded. Also, he panicked! Ahaha.]

I also want to get closer to a temple, too. Just in case. How far away is yours?

So anywhere on high ground then?

[Fubuki, you're a reckless case.

Not that Johan is any better, but then he's asked that question and--]

I...[That is a good question. He hasn't really focused on finding his temple.] It's a bit far.

Yep.

[And without aiming for a specific temple, trees are the closest thing, so...] A tree it is, then!

[Now to find a good one to climb...] Do you have a tree preference?

[A quick scan of the area before Johan settles on one.]

How about that one?

[It's big enough for the two of them, definitely tall enough to remain out of reach from the wayward Roomba.]
