TEST DRIVE # 12



Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.



Daring Drinks

A couple of local bars are going out of their way to make new and interesting drinks for their customers to try, in a long-standing war between the two bars. Of course, they're going a little off the rails, so there are some very interesting - and somewhat scary - combinations popping out of the woodworks. And they want everyone passing by to try them.

Electric Eels

An odd ayakashi is causing some of the eels at the local aquarium to become literally electric, causing the eels to shock the other inhabitants in their tanks. This is causing a pretty big uproar and if it isn't fixed soon, someone could die or the aquarium might even just shut down entirely.

Frog Friend

Large frogs are popping up all over the place and following people around. They don't seem malicious in any way, but they are kind of creepy to look at, brightly colored, and leave trails of slippery goo wherever they stand. Oh, and they like to jump at people and knock them over, just for fun.

Gaseous Grandpas

A local home for older men is having a problem with a number of their inhabitants where they literally cannot stop farting and belching. It turns out this is the work of an ayakashi that just thinks farts and burps are funny and knows it's easier to get those sorts of things out of old people. Help the poor old guys out, would you?

Horrifying Hentai

Many known otaku in the area are dealing with a rather terrifying problem - every hentai they watch lately comes into reality very suddenly. Sometimes this means cute, begging girls, sure, but it also means tentacles and aliens and a whole rash of other things too. You'll have to stop the ayakashi that is bringing these 'fantasies' to life in order to save these guys.

[What he means is at all, but the ayakashi has finally slithered out of hiding-- literally slithered. It must be, what, 30 feet long at the least? Where the heck had it been hiding all this time? This is just perfect, because-- so much for just finding it. What a way to keep the adrenaline pumping etc] If you're going to continue to be useless then just stay out of the way.

[Something that can grant electrical powers to a mere eel might be able to do it to other things too, it's worthy of study! Honestly, Xehanort doesn't expect her to budge on either one, but if he didn't at least make a token effort at it, then how could he say he ever tried at all?

The ayakashi is rejected, as he expects. Who really wanted such a thing around? (It'd be fun to take apart..) But when she studies the eels and then asks her own hypothetical questions, for a moment he looks remarkably startled.

Carrying them back in their current bin wouldn't be too hard, I'm strong enough. Creating a reliable pen to keep them in long-term shouldn't be hard, there's surely plenty of large all-glass aquariums to be purchased hereabouts, and glass is nearly as good an insulator as rubber.

[Of course salt water being what it is, he wouldn't be able to keep them alive for long without having prepped for a couple weeks ahead of time but that wasn't really vital was it?]

How they're generating their electricity is of course the primary goal. If it'll fade over time or if it's now a permanent change, along with their aggressiveness. Perhaps it can be harnessed and made useful.

[Because seriously who needs generators when you have angry electric eels. It almost sounds feasable, except this is Xehanort, he has nothing set up yet, and probably those eels are going to wind up dead, taken apart, and possibly then lightly grilled.]

[ And off she's going again. Whether or not she checks to see if Duo's following probably depends on whether he'd agreed to wear a mask alongside her tonight.

And if he didn't, she's probably projecting the illusion of one onto his face anyway. If you're cooperating, you'll look the part. ]

[The crazy costume idea was just... way over the top for him. Breaking and entering was supposed to be stealthy, not stylish. Who did this god think they were? Duo was completely confused and really put out.

He grumbled. Worst. Pairing. Ever.]

[He narrowed his eyes, glaring at that cape as it flapped behind the running Hibiki, and started off again as well. Illusions were fine, if that was a thing, but there was no way in Hell he was actually going to wear something that ridiculous...

Oh, well. [The change is slight, yet undeniable, as Roshi hops up to his feet. An undercurrent in his voice, a slight change of his posture, and -- he even looks slightly different, as his narrow-to-the-point-of-withered frame seems to flesh out.] I suppose now that the thing's appeared, I SHOULD be a little more serious.

[ They are breaking and entering, okay. When one is breaking and entering, one is committing a crime. This is how one dresses in the movies when one is committing a crime. Stylishly. Mysteriously. With panache.

It figures she'd get stuck with an ignoramus.

Phantom Thief Genius heads for the largest problem tank, which...isn't hard to determine, since that sure is a lot of sparking. She frowns, assessing the situation, and holds out a hand. ]

[Dust speaking up nearly startles her enough to go toppling into the tank but somehow she manages to catch herself. Venus blinks, lifting her head to look over to the....non-human looking--wait is that a tail? She blinks several times trying to piece together just what he is. That somehow seems more curious then when and how he got up there on the tank.]

I'm fine! I fine! I need to get these eels!

[She offers a smile and a dismissive wave before looking back to the water.]

Do you live here?

[Maybe he's some weird creature that lives in the aquarium? Yeah that's gotta be it!]

[She's squinting at him with deep dubiousness. Of course they're just being disregarded. If they were actually invisible, she wouldn't have been able to get her drinks in the first place, and getting someone's attention would have scared them.

They're just hard to notice, which means they may as well be invisible unless they make the effort first.]

S'not an illusion, though. They can see us when we want.

[Getting closer to those disgusting tentacles is the last thing that Myfanwy wants to do, but she's going to have to if she wants to actually control them. She can sense the thing from here, but it's... weird.

She swallows, and crosses the street. The tentacles on the balcony immediately perk up like dogs who've heard the postman's truck, and she grits her teeth as one sneaks over to curl around her wrist.

It tightens, and she feels the way it's about to drag her in, subsentient nerve nodes radiating up and down the tentacle touching something! contract! She shuts them down, one by one, mind racing up through the rubbery flesh and leaving senses and consciousness numb in her wake. It's huge, but it's not too big to read, and as weird as it looks the anatomy, from the inside, mostly makes sense.

The tentacles sag against the windows and loll, limply, over the concrete. Myfanwy takes a few tries to remember how to make her own voice respond before she manages, sounding like she has a mouth full of rocks:]

Safe. Go.

[Crawford spares a withering glance to the shrinking tentacle before turning his attention back to Schuldig.]

Call one of your children here and squash this.

[He hadn't been bothered yet to find a shinki of his own; a situation he would have to remedy some day. In the meantime, Schuldig's would do, well enough.
Leaning against the wall as well, he resists the urge to reach for a hint on who that shinki may be, when a thought occurs that makes him scowl.]

[There are a great many things that Mukuro cannot recall since having woken up in what he had found out was named 'Meeting Hall in the Heavens' ( a name that had struck him as inexplicably and indescribably funny for reasons he couldn't explain ), but what he did could count on his hands. His name, that he was dead, and that he seemed extraordinarily gifted in fighting.

( Though, perhaps concerning that last one, there was still some more trials to be run before it was decided if that was pride or actual fact. )

He wasn't in much of a rush to help anyone who was being attacked by an assortment of monsters and big breasted women, but there had been one person who had caught his attention. She seemed skilled enough, and she had an interesting ability. Mukuro hadn't been sure if it had been his vision playing tricks on him or if-]

Would you like a hand?

[Quickly, he erected a small boundary around them, it holding off the worst of the tentacles for now.]

I'd be in trouble if it wasn't, huh? [ Water would be the best way to get it out, and she certainly can't wear it with frog goo. She'll salvage what she can. At the end of the day, it's only a dress ... right?

She nods back politely. ]

Nice to meet you, Mr. Cho! I'm Hokuto. Sumeragi Hokuto. Shinki to [imagine some random name!]. I haven't met many other shinkis, yet. It's all been something of a blur since I arrived.

[ It's quite frustrating, really! No one seems to be paying much attention to her at all! But she already knows how difficult it is to be seen or remembered by Near Shore folk. She finds this all very inconvenient, especially when she wants to make a point!

She sighs with annoyance and turns to the lady in the kimono (nice fabric, by the way!). ]

I have half a mind to do so, but I don't think I'll get through to these knuckleheads anyway.

[ The perverts completely ignore Hokuto's reprimand. How bold that they don't even look awkward or embarrassed! She forgets for a brief moment that being seen on the Near Shore can be a challenge for shinkis. She stands there fuming silently, when to her surprise, the girl turns to the crepe stand and orders something -- with a stolen wallet.

Normally, such behavior would be exactly the kind of thing Hokuto might call out, but she thinks that in this case, the girl is doing it to prove a point. ]

I suppose they only choose to see when they're the ones being offended! How so very convenient for them.

I don't know if friendliness is measured by brain size... [ she says thoughtfully. After all, plenty of small creatures could be deemed friendly with tiny heads indeed. Like birds. ]

But I can see you prefer other animals. Or do you just like the print? [ She smiles brightly. ]

Ha ha, well, there's always dry-cleaning! But it can be troublesome trying to get mortals to notice us for long enough to pick something up....

It's a pleasure to meet you, Hokuto -- please, feel free to call me Hakkai.

[With an inquisitive glance, he adds:] Then you haven't been here long?

[Venus giggles a bit before quickly following after Hibiki, a obvious skip in her step as she hums sweetly. She's clearly enjoying keeping the god company.]

What sorts of tea do you like? I'm guess you're....old fashion or its something I've never even heard of before. Oh! Oh! [Her hands clap together as her eyes gleam.]

You have to let me try to sip of yours!

[Best equipment a dude could ask for. He's practically invincible.]

Hmm. More or less. [Sora grins up at Nyx and shrugs lightly.] I mean at least we don't have to deal with drunks or weird spirits or run away toys or cleaning toilets or killing zombies...

[ Truly, she'd like to know more about this remarkable ability to 'read' another creature. She doesn't say more, however. This woman turns back to the tank and channels (?) her power into it. Hokuto falls silent and tries not to disturb her as she works. ]

Well, Hakkai ... I think someone ought to start a dry cleaning business on the Far Shore! They'd do brisk business, if this -- [ she nods at her frog friend, which ribbits! in answer ] -- is a common occurrence.

[ She winks at the little guy, who croaks once more and jumps into the fountain. She turns back to Hakkai. ]

Freshly arrived just a few days ago. Today is my first venture into the Near Shore, and it's been a bit of an adventure, as you see.

[ Angel? Does he mean ... shinki? He's not sure if Farfarello is just mistaken or plain crazy (possibly both). He decides against pointing this out. ]

Oooh. Here? [ His eyes widen a little. It's dangerous for a shinki to wander alone in the Near Shore without a name. Unless he's been named already. ]

Like, for the first time? Or they named you already, and you're just meeting up with them again?

[Venus' smile grows as she leans in. She tries to push some of her weight on Hibiki as she tilts her head a bit to whisper into Hibiki's ear]
