IC: All day May 26
OOC: December 16

May 26 marks the last day of the Hanazono Shrine Festival in Shinjuku. The day-long parade took pace on the 25th, to much acclaim, and now everyone is wrapping up the festival by visiting food stalls and the shrine itself. It seems like an excellent ending to a wonderful festival and even residents of the Far Shore might find themselves enjoying it without any prompting from the Heavens at all.
That's when things go from good to bad. At around noon, traffic will suddenly find itself stopped for what looks like another parade, which is strange because the parade was yesterday. However, the Near Shore residents don't seem too angered by it and instead settle in to watch the parade. It seems like a perfectly normal parade at first, made up of the same floats that were displayed the previous day, but any close observers will quickly note that something is wrong with it.
And then it goes from bad to worse. This is no ordinary parade - it's a parade of the dead. Dead souls have taken over lifeless bodies on a steady march down the street. And when they reach the final point of the route, all chaos breaks loose, prompting the Heavens to step in to intervene and send out all the gods and shinki they have to stop the sudden unexplained slaughter.
To participate in the event, you will just need to comment to the event/intro log after it goes up on December 16 at 7PM EST.

I'm sorry but I have to ask.... will getting them in the head be an effective method of dealing with them?

Relatedly, what constitutes a 'dead' soul? Is it an ayakashi? A human soul that's been corrupted somehow?

A dead soul is a soul that has been detached from its original living body. These are just human souls, attached to dead bodies, that are very confused and violent as a result.

1. How can the gods/shinki stop the bodies? Do they have to destroy the corpses? Or is it simply a matter of exorcising the soul from the body?
2. What happens to the soul once it is exorcised/once the body it inhabits is destroyed? Will the soul attempt to find a new corpse to possess?
3. If the gods/shinki have to force the soul outside the corpse, how can this be done? Is it necessarily through destroying the body, or is there some prayer/spell that can be used instead?
4. With regards to the above question, can a borderline be used to "cut" whatever the soul is using to stick inside the bodies?
Thanks mods.

2. The soul will simply float away.
3. Any character that has natural exorcism-like abilities will be able to use that. Otherwise, destruction of the corpse is necessary.
4. A borderline can be used to literally cut the body, but not the ethereal ties between the soul and body.

is it possible for the same thing to happen here?

The part of Trance that walks and interacts on the Far and Near shore is a lifeless puppet/construct that she essentially created and took over. The episode I linked showed that a creature that infects and takes over lifeless bodies was also able to take control of Trance's body almost right away.

These would not be able to take over her body, as that would involve forcing out her 'soul', and they can't do that.
