Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:
1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.

Junky Jokes
There is a small spirit girl who is determined to hear some funny jokes before she passes on to the next life. Your job is to come up with some horribly bad, wonderfully funny jokes to make her laugh. Be warned, though, she's got a very serious face that's hard to crack.
The swords of the knights at a local museum's exhibit have gone missing. They are praying for them to be returned because these swords are worth so much and such a great part of history. Hopefully you'll be able to find them, because otherwise those prayers are going to someone else.
There's been a streak of heat lightning going on. It's so intense that sometimes the lightning will light up the night sky as if it were day and there have been numerous power outages in the area. Go help out the people who are without power and make sure that everyone can still live as normally as possible!
Who doesn't need more money? A little convenience store needs help since all of their employees have fallen ill at the same time. They're offering double wages to anyone who will work for them. Unfortunately, the store is a hot spot for misfortune and ghouls of various kinds. Have fun!
Surprise! A very American man is shoving neon bright candy and cakes at everyone who will stop for even a moment, and he easily notices all Far Shore residents as well. Which means every time you pass him, you'll be getting more and more of this hideously colored food. Enjoy~

[ This one doesn't even look like she's trying to make the girl laugh. Instead, she's pulled up two chairs: one for herself and one for the spirit who is calmly kicking her feet and linefacing at everyone.

You there. You seem like the clever sort. Do you think you can make her smile?

Knights Knives
[ Should you choose to check out the exhibit, you'll find that she's wandered away to look at the suits of armor and the places where the swords may have been displayed. Her arms are folded behind her back, careful not to touch any of the exhibits as she scrutinizes them with a close eye. ]
They couldn't have gotten very far... provided the thieves were human to begin with.
[ That's when she finally turns her attention to you. ]

[Mai considers the spirit linefacing and taps her chin.]
Well. I'm not that good with jokes but...
[The spirit seems fairly young. Maybe she would take to something easy.]
What's a panda's favorite food? [...] Bread, duh!

[ Crossing her legs and resting her head on her hand as she turns her attention to the child. Nope. If anything, she's now just staring straight ahead at Mai as if to say "That was it?" ]
I don't think she appreciates puns. This little one's rather stubborn.

[Now Mai turns to the child and she's... not much happier than when they starter. Actually she's giving Mai a very judgmental look. The brunette huffs.]
What, so you didn't like either of those?
[The spirit vehemently shakes her head. Mai sighs.]
Well. I'm not sure what to do then. I've kind of run out of jokes honestly.

She's a rather hard to please child, I'm afraid. You aren't the only one who's failed. I've been here all afternoon and there hasn't been a single successful attempt.

[Now Mai directs a curious look to the little spirit.]
Are you really that picky?
[The spirit is the one that huffs this time, puffing out her cheeks as she insists she's not picky, she just has better taste in jokes.
Mai's expression flattens.]
Yeah, that sounds picky alright.

I can't help but wonder why this of all things would be her last wish. Do you think it was something she was lacking in life... or maybe something she enjoyed?

[ A strange wish but a wish nontheless. Better than becoming an ayakashi, she supposes. ]

[The little mouse looks troubled; humor wasn't exactly her strong suit. If she could pull this off, though, it'd surely be a feather in her god's cap (not to mention her own.) With that in mind, she takes a deep breath.]
I... [A bit awkwardly at first] may know one or two, but they're pretty cheesy. [She wiggles her ears and gives the spirit a meaningful look.]

[ Leaning back in her seat, noticing those ears. ]

How's their security look? Think it was big enough to need an insider?

[ She turns once on her heel, looking around the room for anything: ventilation, open windows, other doors not easily noticed. ]
I can't say the room could have made it easy to escape... but for a local museum, I'm sure you can expect at least one or two security guards on patrol. Certainly not as many as there are in larger museums though.

[But despite her grumbling, she does go over to look at the potential exit points.]
And technically, it's my ex-profession. Security was kind of my specialty.
[Less bragging, more working! She crosses her arms as she considers a window.] What do you think of this? It's cracked at the corner. Think an ayakashi could use it?

[ She does smile slightly buuuut back to business. Time to take a look at that window too. Her brows furrow into the smallest frown as she looks at it. ]
I've been told that ayakashi were spirits so it probably wouldn't be impossible to use a cracked window to enter. The question would be how they got the swords out afterward.

[Heh. But speaking of conversions...]
Well, we're kinda spirits too, you know? Maybe they took it the same way we would. [Though, she'd never been curious enough to try it, really. Experimentally, she picks up a dagger from one of the displays.] Feels solid enough to me.

Despite the fact that we are spirits, I don't think we're capable of turning non-corporeal. At least that's what I've observed.
[ A beat. You may be on to something though. ]
Though if the culprit was a shinki or a god, it might be easy for them to take the weapons and walk out of the museum without being noticed...

[If it really was a god or shinki, that would be a pain in the ass and so not her jurisdiction. (...Not that she actually pays attention to that, most days. It's the principle of the thing.)]
If it was an ayakashi, they wouldn't be noticed either, you know?
