TEST DRIVE # 08



Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.



Junky Jokes

There is a small spirit girl who is determined to hear some funny jokes before she passes on to the next life. Your job is to come up with some horribly bad, wonderfully funny jokes to make her laugh. Be warned, though, she's got a very serious face that's hard to crack.

Knights Knives

The swords of the knights at a local museum's exhibit have gone missing. They are praying for them to be returned because these swords are worth so much and such a great part of history. Hopefully you'll be able to find them, because otherwise those prayers are going to someone else.

Ludicrous Lightning

There's been a streak of heat lightning going on. It's so intense that sometimes the lightning will light up the night sky as if it were day and there have been numerous power outages in the area. Go help out the people who are without power and make sure that everyone can still live as normally as possible!

More Money

Who doesn't need more money? A little convenience store needs help since all of their employees have fallen ill at the same time. They're offering double wages to anyone who will work for them. Unfortunately, the store is a hot spot for misfortune and ghouls of various kinds. Have fun!

Neon Nourishment

Surprise! A very American man is shoving neon bright candy and cakes at everyone who will stop for even a moment, and he easily notices all Far Shore residents as well. Which means every time you pass him, you'll be getting more and more of this hideously colored food. Enjoy~

[ It would be a waste to throw away, no doubt about that. So she does consider a piece of candy before quietly popping it into her mouth. It seems normal, at least. Just an ordinary piece of candy. No flavor but sweet so maybe it isn't anything to worry about.

Still, best to see if anything out of the ordinary happens to her over a span of a day. ]

Perhaps we should take some back? We could give some to the other gods and shinki that haven't been handed candy to... or at least haven't had the chance to step out today.

[ He blinks, not expecting such a vehement response. Why does it matter if he believes her or not? ]

Okay...

[ He eyes the candy in her hand and then glances back at the guy on the corner, who's still trying to punt the stuff off to any Far Shore being he sees. ]

If you got those from that guy though, I wouldn't eat it.

A. Knights' Knives

[A look inside the museum and around the perimeter hasn't turned up much but firsthand confirmation that, yes, some important swords are missing from the museum, and not much else is known on the manner. The police apparently haven't found any physical traces of a thief yet, and so far a preliminary godly investigation hasn't turned up any clues on how they would've gotten in and out, or what their course through the museum would've been.

Someplace behind the building in a second detail-checking of the premises, Tailmon shakes her head a couple times, still walking.]

They weren't taken by a normal thief. Probably not even by a human. If they were, the owners wouldn't have already had to resort to prayer.

[The first part's a hunch she's not expecting herself to be the only one holding, and the second part's, well, debatable. It's just getting the ball rolling, and for now, she's not looking up at her god (or fellow shinki) or keeping her tone completely out of distant stiffness.]

B. More Money

[The store has a ghoul problem, eh? Well, what better way is there to deal with a pest problem than to have a cat on the premises?

Tailmon's technically in as a backup to one or two other Far Shore-rs - a helping hand or, you know, paw who can grab things from the back room and the like - but her interest's been more in trying to deal with the beasties ever since their presence in the place made itself obvious. She's kept her eyes open and ears pricked and turning toward any audio hint that someone in the store's trying to something sneaky, but so far this shift, it seems like they've been laying low.

Until...

There's a sound off to her left somewhere - sounds like it might be in or behind the wall - while she's looking for a spare package of something-or-other to bring to whoever's working the counter. There we go. In a snap, she's down on all fours, looks to the top off the racks, and scales her way up, quietly as she can. Braces herself at and peers down from a top-shelf box, and shortly, something comes into view. She gets herself nice and raring to pounce, narrowing her eyes and flexing the claws on one of her paws...

And then it looks up. She blinks wide, it makes a snickering noise, she hurls herself down after it, and lands straight on the spot on the floor where it had still been halfway through her jump. She looks up, all muscles tight, sees it shooting into the main store, darts after it - and stops in the doorway.

Not a trace of it. She takes a moment, turning her ears to listen for it, but... no.

Got to hate supernatural quarries.

She looks straight up to her nearest colleague, asking quickly:]

Did you see it?

[ Crossing her legs and resting her head on her hand as she turns her attention to the child. Nope. If anything, she's now just staring straight ahead at Mai as if to say "That was it?" ]

I don't think she appreciates puns. This little one's rather stubborn.

It's all she needs to cross over. I believe her last wish was to hear some funny jokes before she passed on.

[ A strange wish but a wish nontheless. Better than becoming an ayakashi, she supposes. ]

[Byung-hee had spent a lot of his life snagging, 'borrowing' or otherwise taking what he figured would do him more good then the next person, but to suddenly be given something without once attempting his usual tactics had him eye the bag suspiciously. As in grab it, hold it out at arm's length before tossing it at the nearest person walking by. Ignoring the protests, he just leans into the god's space and tries one of his less crazy smiles.]

I'm not too sure what time of the year it is, but it can't be White Day and I'm pretty sure that a 'please accept this' would work better then a 'here'. but if you try it again and maybe say please, I'll accept it.

[ And here she was, passing by just to assess the state of the storm so to speak. This hill was the best place to anyway. Maybe she stopped right in front of you on purpose, who knows? Either way, she doesn't move save for glancing over her shoulder and taking a small step to the left. ]

[ This girl clearly doesn't know who she just walked by. Then again, no one knows who Eris is (or rather, who this Eris is). Luckily Eris can be a reasonable person at times, and she'll just make a mental note to plan that she'll be known and feared in this world, too. ]

So long as I actually get to see the view, be my guest.

[ She's welcome to sit on the ground next to her. No way is she magic'ing up a lawn chair for some stranger. ]

[Alright... So... Rei doesn't really have much luck when it comes to his shinki forms. With Tenpou he takes the form of a purple speedo, and it looks like his bad luck continues. In a flash of bright rainbow colored light, Makoto is now holding in his hands a very cute purple ribbon butterfly themed wand. There was a brief screech from "Shouki" but that was it before the he adjusted his glasses.]

.... Okay. Be Prepared Makoto-san! I, your Shouki, will leave you with a sight that you have never seen before!

[And he does as rainbow colored bubbles shoot out from the "wand" and coat the ghoul with a layer of harmless bubbles.]

[She looks down at the candy again and nods.]

The colors look like some of the things from Papa's lab. And Tot wasn't allowed to touch those.

[Nothing Papa didn't give her in any case.

She'll just toss the candy in the nearest trash can without a second thought. If Nagi thought they were bad, then that was good enough for her.]

[ A joke? Pidge couldn’t believe this…she was certain that she knew a few jokes, but nothing that would really make someone laugh? Sighing, she tilted her head to the side as she thought, her eyes slowly wandering up to the sky. Snapping suddenly, she leaned forward and grinned, her finger pointing in the spirit’s direction ]

Why did the Robot go back to Robot School?

[ There’s a pause; Pidge is looking a little bit too happy now about this joke. ]

Because his skills were getting a little rusty!

[ Cue a laughing 14 year old and probably not a laughing spirit. ]



Ludicrous Lightning


[ Pidge is careful to not get distracted by the storm; there was always something beautiful about lighting shooting across the sky… She moved with a few tools in her hands. There wasn’t much she could remember before she got here, but she knew she could at least help with the power. Maybe it would help her remember something? Moving to the next house, she politely asked to see any electrical outlets and generators to be able to help. It was the same over and over before she finally seemed tired, but there was still some issues for other people…

Unfortunately, that doesn’t stop her from absentmindedly bumping into someone when distracted by the heat lightning on her way to her next stop! ]

[ Alright fine, she'll play nice. So stepping aside now, deciding to just stand beside said lawn chair because there's no way you're getting this princess to sit on the ground gosh. ]

And I wouldn't further suppose that you're actually going to get out there and assist those poor people?

[It's almost like those slapstick comedy shows. At least Amane's broom give her some reach, even if she's not the most athletic girl around.]

How about...A bear walks into a bar and says "I'll have a glass of milk and..." [ There's a long pause while Yuma looks around for a moment and finally speaks again. ] "A pack of peanuts."

The bartender asks "Why the big paws!!"

[ Yuma, don't look proud of yourself. ]

Oh yeah! That one's sure to work! [ 'Cept not. The girl merely sighs and looks away from them. And Nagisa does much the same, hanging his head in momentary defeat once more. ] Ooooh man, is there anything she finds funny?

[ Of all the bullshit missions/prayers he's taken on, this has to be the one he went into minding the least. Not that anyone would know that with how long and loudly he complained all the way to it. Kids, jokes... What more could he ask for?

Totally crouching down to be at her level. ]

Yeah, so, there was this prison break once and I saw a midget from it climb a fence. Tryin' to get away, y'kno? But the little shit sneered at me as he descended, so I said, "that's a little condescending."
