Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:
1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

Echoing Endlessly
Many people in the area are complaining about a strange echo following them around. It never seems to go away and, in fact, collects more and more echoes with each passing moment, creating a cacophony of sound. There have been reports of a few people slowly going crazy because of this echoing. It's your job to find what's causing it and put an end to the echoes!
The new craze has swept over the city! Everything French is so in right now, and everyone wants something newer and Frenchier to make them stand out from the crowd. Just your luck, you happen to have something very French you can peddle - or maybe you can convince someone just how French your very Japanese things are!
A very strange old shinki has left you with a very simple request: guard this door and don't let anyone through. It looks like a totally normal door on a totally normal house! You might be curious to peek through it, but it's locked and you were told not to go through yourself either...
There's an ayakashi roaming around that is literally just hundreds of hands that randomly grab people and things and move them around before disappearing. The odd thing is that they are... actually doing good things? Maybe it's a scheme to suck people into a plagued afterlife without being caught, or maybe they just really want to help people out.
There's a certain street in the downtown area that has some of the craziest rumors being spread about it. Apparently going down this street will just bring you back to the entrance, but when you turn around to head back you'll only find yourself at the entrance again. Moreover, there are a lot of creepy things that whisper and appear as you walk, more with each turn you make...

If you're uncertain about anything, feel free to check out the Premise, Rules, and FAQ posts. And don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have on the FAQ!
When and if you're ready to join the game, check out the Taken Characters before throwing in a Reserve and starting on your Application
Have fun!
you wrote out the 'uuu'
... Put your sword away.
[He's saying that to the sky. Because he was knocked down. Because Souma knocked him down.
Why him.]
of course I did I'm not a heathen
[He sheathes it, but it takes him a moment to crawl off of Keito and wipe his eyes.] Forgive me, Hasumi-dono! Even now, in our silence, the echoes continue and there's no running from them.
I came to help Hasumi-dono because I learned that this task would be too much for one god or shinki alone, but instead I've only become a burden! In apology for my insolence, I will cut my stomach—
i think typing it out makes you a heathen
Don't. No. Just stop. I don't want to hear the rest. [He already has to deal with all these creepy voices say "whoa" seven thousand times over. Just let him sit up and fix his glasses without blood and guts around him, please.]
What a belligerent subordinate I've been stuck with. I told you when I left I'd just be scouting the place out. Only a truly ostentatious fool would charge into this demonic place alone. Do you really think I'd be so idiotic? It's too bad my lectures are wasted on you, otherwise I wouldn't let you go for hours.
[The echoes around them start muttering dark things about "lengthy speeches". Keito casts a glare at the air around them.] ... Anyway, for now it's probably best for us to leave with what we know and come back properly prepared. You remember the way out, don't you?
uuuuuuu!!!!
I don't disagree that it would be foolish to enter this place alone, but Hasumi-dono, isn't that precisely what you did...? [Ah, but maybe it's out of line to say as much! He quickly bites his tongue as Keito finishes his scolding and then looks back down the street.]
I... believe I have an idea, yes, but I became so distressed that I swung my katana and knocked over many fruit stands, blocking the way back. It also caused a terrible echo. If necessary, I can cut through the fruit to allow our escape...!
i don't know you
[Of all things, Souma... Keito tries to spot the supposed mess in the distance. Oh. There it is.
He really wishes Souma had just stayed where he was before. For now he just... pats Souma.] No, it's better if we just find another path. Those fruit sellers will probably be seeking us out for damages. I don't want to risk making it any worse.
[He smacks his shoulder.] Help me up. We'll find another way out of here.
UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
[He's sorry, he's sorry! But alright, he pushes himself to his feet and reaches down to grab Keito's hand, pulling him up carefully. The echoes are continuing, and Souma still cringes at them.]
Please, climb into my arms so I can move us quickly along and make up for my incompetence.
I DON'T KNOW THIS PLAYER
[He'll cling to his arms though and hope the pain will subside. It probably won't with how much Souma overreacts to everything but... he can hope.] Stop overreacting. It's best to keep your head in situations like this.
[Also it hurts. God, it hurts so much. And the voices don't help much either. Keito massages his brow.]
You lead. I feel lightheaded after getting bowled over.
you can't hide from me
[So, here he goes, leading the way out. He's careful to keep his pace slow enough for Keito to keep up, but fast enough that it's a hasty one. The echoes are continuing, and he still grimaces on occasion because of it.]
Ugh... It feels as if even my legs are growing weak after hearing so much of this echo. Could it be that my own voice is such a weapon...? How unpleasant! We must get out of this place at once, but even I cannot be sure when the echoing will end!
dear court, i'd like a restraining order
[But... Right. Souma wouldn't remember that. Keito falls into quiet until Souma speaks again.] If you're so worried about the noise then it makes sense to keep quiet.
[Which means he's whispering that. Just in case Souma is right. He has his doubts but then again Kanzaki wasn't completely dense. Sometimes.] We'll probably escape the voices once we distance ourselves enough. Do you remember how far the temple is from here?
don't be rude
[In other words, it's very far. Souma glances to Keito as they move, trying to keep his voice quiet as well.] If I may be so bold again, Hasumi-dono, I do believe it would be faster if I were to carry you. We could run silently through these terror-filled streets until the safety of our temple embraces us once more!
don't tell me what to do
[Of course, while he says that a voice whispers right into Keito's ear. He stiffens a bit and his grip on Souma may momentarily tighten. Just a bit.]
oh ok
[Even if the more he talks, the more he hears, and it's getting so confusing. Ahhh... Be strong, Souma Kanzaki! Keito's firm grip only tells him that he needs to be even stronger.]
Please stay close behind me, Hasumi-dono. If there is any danger, I will take care of it quickly with my katana!
no subject
[He does do as he's told though, keeping pace behind Souma. The voices haunt their every footsteps with no sign of abating. He can feel Souma tense up. At this rate, there was no way they could keep this up.]
Kanzaki, you're focusing on it too much. If you find yourself lost in what's happening now then keep your mind trained on what lies ahead. Those vegetables we bought the other day are going to spoil soon, aren't they? We should use them in tonight's dinner. What are you planning on cooking?
no subject
[Yes, good idea. Great idea! He marches on confidently thanks to this.] I had been so lost in my thoughts I hadn't considered what I would prepare yet. Truly, I am behind. If it is vegetables that are desired, perhaps I could marinate them along with some chicken... How does that sound, Hasumi-dono?
no subject
[They did. He was the one to pick it up. But the conversation seems to be a useful distraction for Kanzaki. He'll do what he has to.]
no subject
[Wait!! !!! He stops in his tracks, turning quickly on his heels and reaching up to grab Keito's cheeks.]
Hasumi-dono, could it be that your memory is fading, just as mine has? Is this a sign of oncoming death? Hasumi-dono may be in even more danger than I originally anticipated! This is horrible news!
no subject
Don't be ridiculous. Leaping to such extreme assumptions will only shorten your life with worry. Nothing like that is happening.
[Lightly pushing his shoulder now. Go on, punk.] Keep walking and tell me about the marinade you'll make.
no subject
[He's going to PANIC... Actually, Keito can likely feel the way he's panicking, but luckily Souma isn't feeling bad about it this time, so he won't be hurt. He turns to walk, even if he reaches back to hold Keito's wrist as he does.]
If I may be so bold, Hasumi-dono, I believe that it would be crucial to begin training as I do. If your body were more sturdy, perhaps it would be stronger against ayakashi.
no subject
K-Kanzaki! Slow down! Damn. Your strides are too long for someone shorter than me!
[He's not commenting on that training idea. It's a stupid idea, even with the needling thought at the back of his mind that said it was the right one.]
no subject
[So, he only runs faster as he tugs Keito along. See? Carrying him would have been faster.] Please consider training in martial arts from now on!
no subject
Keito jerks to a stop. Fists clenched at his sides, he stares at the ground. All this time he'd thought he'd supported them or at least that they had stood on even ground. In reality, had he ever been anything more than a burden?]
Kanzaki! You were right. It'll be faster if you carry me. [Maybe just this once he'll swallow his troublesome pride. For Souma, if nothing else.]
no subject
[He's pleased by this! There's even a small little smile as he moves over to him and then picks him up. He's got a surprising amount of strength for such a tiny man. Just like that, he's taking off! Though he's not the best runner in the world, he certainly is determined.]
Please leave it to me! As fast as I possibly can, I will return us to our temple! From then, we can discuss our dinner in peace.
no subject
I'd rather we cook it. Discussing it is really nothing more than idle action to preoccupy the time before the actual event.
[His stomach makes an anime hungry noise.] ... I also forgot to eat lunch.
no subject
[A little bit of scolding. They scold each other like this, he's learned, and somehow it's comforting, even if he can't remember a thing. The echoes are no longer a worry when he has a goal like this in mind, so he runs, carrying Keito.]
If we cook together, dinner will be completed even sooner. It won't be long.
no subject
[The scolding's familiar but still annoying.]
Anyway, that's usually how it works. Group efforts only makes things more efficient, after all. If it's a simple meal of just meat and vegetables it'll take even less time. We probably won't even need Kiryu for it.
... Provided he hasn't already prepared dinner ahead of us.
