TEST DRIVE # 07

Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.

Echoing Endlessly

Many people in the area are complaining about a strange echo following them around. It never seems to go away and, in fact, collects more and more echoes with each passing moment, creating a cacophony of sound. There have been reports of a few people slowly going crazy because of this echoing. It's your job to find what's causing it and put an end to the echoes!

French Frenzy

The new craze has swept over the city! Everything French is so in right now, and everyone wants something newer and Frenchier to make them stand out from the crowd. Just your luck, you happen to have something very French you can peddle - or maybe you can convince someone just how French your very Japanese things are!

Gateway Guardians

A very strange old shinki has left you with a very simple request: guard this door and don't let anyone through. It looks like a totally normal door on a totally normal house! You might be curious to peek through it, but it's locked and you were told not to go through yourself either...

Helping Hands

There's an ayakashi roaming around that is literally just hundreds of hands that randomly grab people and things and move them around before disappearing. The odd thing is that they are... actually doing good things? Maybe it's a scheme to suck people into a plagued afterlife without being caught, or maybe they just really want to help people out.

Irksome Illusions

There's a certain street in the downtown area that has some of the craziest rumors being spread about it. Apparently going down this street will just bring you back to the entrance, but when you turn around to head back you'll only find yourself at the entrance again. Moreover, there are a lot of creepy things that whisper and appear as you walk, more with each turn you make...

It's unusual for Hasumi-dono to change his mind so abruptly.

[He's pleased by this! There's even a small little smile as he moves over to him and then picks him up. He's got a surprising amount of strength for such a tiny man. Just like that, he's taking off! Though he's not the best runner in the world, he certainly is determined.]

Please leave it to me! As fast as I possibly can, I will return us to our temple! From then, we can discuss our dinner in peace.

[Don't fucking call him out on it!! Ugh. He still makes a few startled noises as he's picked up but after that he adjusts quickly. It's a bit undignified how he's so accustomed to being carried. He tries not to think about it.]

I'd rather we cook it. Discussing it is really nothing more than idle action to preoccupy the time before the actual event.

[His stomach makes an anime hungry noise.] ... I also forgot to eat lunch.

That was careless, Hasumi-dono. All meals are important to a warrior! It is important to energize yourself in order to become strong and push through the day, no matter what comes.

[A little bit of scolding. They scold each other like this, he's learned, and somehow it's comforting, even if he can't remember a thing. The echoes are no longer a worry when he has a goal like this in mind, so he runs, carrying Keito.]

If we cook together, dinner will be completed even sooner. It won't be long.

Don't name me a warrior out of your own choosing. Haven't I made it clear I'm not the same as you two muscle-minded jocks?

[The scolding's familiar but still annoying.]

Anyway, that's usually how it works. Group efforts only makes things more efficient, after all. If it's a simple meal of just meat and vegetables it'll take even less time. We probably won't even need Kiryu for it.

... Provided he hasn't already prepared dinner ahead of us.

Ah, that is a good point. It would be just as expected of Kiryu-dono to think ahead and prepare a warm meal for our return.

[He's getting inspired just thinking about how hard working he is!! The pace picks up, and the shrine is in view now.]

How admirable! The three of us, working together as a team even in this... isn't it beautiful, Hasumi-dono?

I'd expect nothing less. Our unit—[He nearly chokes on his own tongue. It takes a moment for him to recover, glancing away as he speaks. Lying isn't his strong suit and dishonesty...]—Our... group is similar to one I had before all of this. It only makes sense that we're a strong team.

Hasumi-dono must miss them dearly, to speak so fondly of them. I hope that our presence is at least somewhat calming to Hasumi-dono in the meantime. With your freedom from here as the end goal, I'm certain we will return you to them.

You're right. Your presence is a comfort. [Keito's throat thickens.] But if I were to be honest, I'd much rather they return here.

Whatever Hasumi-dono's preference is, I will work towards it with all of my energy!

[Now, he stops at the shrine so they can go from the near shore to the far shore. Somehow. Vague transportation!]

I know.

[Souma always did. The question was if it would work. Not that it mattered. Even if one attempt failed, he would find another method to restore them. Impossibilities were only solutions that had yet to be found.

He spends the vague weirdo god teleportation in silence and tugs at Souma's shirt when they arrive.]

Kanzaki. Put me down.

[Oh. Alright. He puts him down now, carefully brushing off some of Keito's clothes for him and checking that he's alright.]

It is much nicer to be outside of those echoes.

[No, don't—! Ugh. He swats all that brushing away, scowling. At least the annoyance is enough to distract him. Small mercies.]

We'll still have to go back tomorrow. I plan to formulate a plan over dinner. Come on.

[He doesn't wait. Follow quickly, Souma.]

To solve the problem? I had faith that Hasumi-dono would not leave something so sinister unsolved. As a team, perhaps we can work together to defeat whatever may be behind it!

[He's following quickly, but while babbling excitedly the whole way.]

We'll have to locate it first. The ayakashi should be at the epicenter. If we can reach that it shouldn't be too hard to stop.

[Maybe even peacefully... Or at least he might be able to end it quick. The idea of a drawn-out fight wasn't exactly the most appealing.]

I also believe that it should be no major task for our team.

[But first, they need to eat and recharge!! So Souma is already thinking ahead to how he will most efficiently do a great, delicious meal that uses up the vegetables and everything they need to.] Thinking about it, I can feel my heart beating faster still... I cannot wait!
