TEST DRIVE # 06

Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.

Zombie Zoo

A local zoo is having a very serious problem. Specifically, a large number of its dead animals have suddenly come back to life! These animals have all died sometime in the past, over several decades, but now they're crawling out of their grave sites to join the other other animals in the zoo. It's not that they're causing any trouble, they act exactly as they did in life. It's just... really creepy, honestly.

Arctic Arcade

A popular arcade is under siege by restless spirits. No matter how warm the owners try to keep the gaming areas, it's like an arctic tundra inside. The cold is starting to mess with the gaming systems and very few patrons are willing to deal with subzero temperatures just to play some dumb video games. It's quite likely there's an ayakashi plaguing the store, but it's a matter of finding out where exactly it's hiding.

Baby Boxes

Japan is taking some initiative to adopt a new system for the young people being born into their country! Much like Finland, they are starting a tradition where each new baby has a box of essentials gifted to their parents, which can also serve as a crib while the baby is still small enough to fit inside. You've been enlisted to help put these boxes together! Have fun with all the baby food and diapers.

Calling Card

Every god needs to be promoted, how else will they get followers, right? So that's your job! Go promote your god or, if you're a god, promote yourself! Whether your calling card is literally a card with your phone number or some graffiti sprayed onto every bus in Tokyo, it's all fair game. Just make sure it's going to bring in the customers.

Desperate Doggy

An odd spirit has started following you around. It's the spirit of a dog, who is very intent on getting back to its master. Apparently its master really needs the dog in order to keep living a happy life, that's what you've gathered from all the barking and shoving at least. Whether you decide to help the dog find its master or help it reach the next world is up to you.

If you're uncertain about anything, feel free to check out the Premise, Rules, and FAQ posts. And don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have on the FAQ!
When and if you're ready to join the game, check out the Taken Characters before throwing in a Reserve and starting on your Application
Have fun!

talking to dogs is not the same as assassinating :/ c'mon Kite

[Hunting. He is not really sure why that word twinges something in his mind. Dogs hunt though, so it cannot be a surprise. There is still something about that. He stands there a moment before following along with them. He idly responds to him and trails off partway through. It really is not out of boredom this time (honest). Well...part of it is.]

Oh...that's right. A keen sense of smell...

[And then he asks him that question. He has to think about that. He taps his chin as they walk. Huh...that question...what kind of animal does he like? Is that something he should remember?]

I don't know.

listen he isn't the one from an assassin family, Illumi!! although zoldyk would sure ring bells

Among other things. You should consider looking into it. People have learned a lot from animals, no matter where or when. Whether that’s something only an animal will know, or utilizing those animals. Dogs in particular have grown alongside humans and are more advanced in some areas specifically related to people compared to other animals because of that. So hunting animals, herding, guard dogs…

...But you seem like a poisonous snake kind of person.

[He takes a sharp turn, following the dog without thinking twice about it.]
illumizoldyck: (I want your soul)

Very sorry about the wait on this. And that is no excuse, sir :|

As fascinating as that sounds, I will have to pass.

[Because Illumi is a fountain of charm. And something about the way that he calls him a...'poisonous snake kind of person' makes him somewhat pause. Something about it just makes sense to him. He is probably right. Quick strikes and the target is silenced forever. It takes him a moment to move after him again. The image he almost gets in his head is gone a second later. He wonders what that is all about.

He cannot help it that just hearing and speaking of animals being trained also rings a bell for him. He should probably not be prying too much into what it means or anything related to digging that memory up. When has he ever...listened to reason though even from himself?]

I think I had a dog once or something like it.

[He follows along calmly even as he continues.]

I think it killed a lot of people. I guess they do have their uses after all. You may be right.

[Subtle, Illumi. The most subtle.]
onearmedbandit: (greer) ([f]lea)

No problem. And listen it's a fine excuse, gosh, back off Illumi

[Those sure are some words that just came out of your mouth, Illumi.]

[Not that they’re the strangest words Kite has heard from a person. It makes sense that’s the kind of pet that a guy like this would have- one with purpose, a bloody one. With that in mind, it’s probably a good thing that he came onto the scene when he did with this particular canine. He can imagine well all the different scenarios that could have happened.]

When it comes to animals, I usually am.

What about you? [He pauses just long enough to make sure that his current human(ish) companion doesn’t space out again before making another turn.] Clearly not an animal person, but have you figured out what things you are skilled with?
illumizoldyck: (challenge)

No :| Never

[He tries. He really tries to be creepy, man.

Illumi will not deny the other declaring themselves to be right about animals. Despite what he thinks, there does appear to be keen insight there. It would not be very becoming of him to ignore a talent. Or maybe he should. It is slightly confusing mostly because it makes him feel familiarity...for some reason. And then he is asked about skills. Oh! Now there;s a question!]

What I am skilled at. Hmmm...now that is a question, isn't it?

[He make a show of gripping his chin and sighing in thought. he snaps his fingers as he points at him. There is an unwavering smile there.]

If I think really hard about it, I think that I really enjoyed...

[A long and awkward pause.]

...getting rid of nuisances as quickly as possible!

[Take this as you will, of course. The way he says it is not exactly cryptic. And he makes a point of looking over at the dog. He says nothing at first before cocking his head as per usual.]

We should really help the poor thing out.
onearmedbandit: (trilies) ([n]ickel)

rude

[Excuse that ugly noise that erupts as if cranked out of Kite’s body as he suddenly hunches over slightly, muffled only a little by a fist coming up to his mouth. That’s not him losing a lung or something, just trying to strangle his own snort of laughter. The dog glances back at them, ears flicking back when she meets Illumi’s gaze. She’s going as fast as her little legs can go, what do you want from her.]

[Straightening up, Kite waves is hand.]

Don’t worry, we’re almost there.

[“There” is a small unassuming suburban house with a plain gate around it, which the dog stops in front of with loud excitable barks. Kite gestures at her to calm it down, even as he’s casually leaping over the fence.]
Looks like this is the place. I’m going to poke around a bit. I don’t suppose you know how to break and enter?
