TEST DRIVE # 06

Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.

Zombie Zoo

A local zoo is having a very serious problem. Specifically, a large number of its dead animals have suddenly come back to life! These animals have all died sometime in the past, over several decades, but now they're crawling out of their grave sites to join the other other animals in the zoo. It's not that they're causing any trouble, they act exactly as they did in life. It's just... really creepy, honestly.

Arctic Arcade

A popular arcade is under siege by restless spirits. No matter how warm the owners try to keep the gaming areas, it's like an arctic tundra inside. The cold is starting to mess with the gaming systems and very few patrons are willing to deal with subzero temperatures just to play some dumb video games. It's quite likely there's an ayakashi plaguing the store, but it's a matter of finding out where exactly it's hiding.

Baby Boxes

Japan is taking some initiative to adopt a new system for the young people being born into their country! Much like Finland, they are starting a tradition where each new baby has a box of essentials gifted to their parents, which can also serve as a crib while the baby is still small enough to fit inside. You've been enlisted to help put these boxes together! Have fun with all the baby food and diapers.

Calling Card

Every god needs to be promoted, how else will they get followers, right? So that's your job! Go promote your god or, if you're a god, promote yourself! Whether your calling card is literally a card with your phone number or some graffiti sprayed onto every bus in Tokyo, it's all fair game. Just make sure it's going to bring in the customers.

Desperate Doggy

An odd spirit has started following you around. It's the spirit of a dog, who is very intent on getting back to its master. Apparently its master really needs the dog in order to keep living a happy life, that's what you've gathered from all the barking and shoving at least. Whether you decide to help the dog find its master or help it reach the next world is up to you.

They're well-fed, and they have children who come and play with them... [And grown-ass men, but that's beside the point. The third goat is pretty content with Kija's pellets.]

No one here seems to be hiding anything, either. I did some investigating while I was getting more food.

[Or: He eavesdropped, but no one was suspicious!!]

You looked into it?

[For him? He's honestly touched at that. Here they are, on a happy little goat farm, and Kija still made sure there weren't any secrets. How nice.]

Thank you. It's nice to know that these animals are being cared for. [He smiles.] They're rather soft, too.

[For his precious comrade, of course...!! That thank you is toeing the line between a normal comment and genuine praise, or at least what Kija considers genuine praise, so suddenly he can only look at his goat and not at Jae-Ha. Ah...]

That's true... They're full of energy.

They remind me of something I can't place my finger on.

[He pets between this goat's little horns, looking thoughtful. The other goat nudges at his arm because he's out of food, and so he pets that one as well. He looks to Kija.]

Do you like them?

[Don't look at him while he's recovering... He still has some food left, so he busies himself feeding the third goat more determinedly.]

Y- Yes! They are very precious creatures! [aaaaaaa]

They are, aren't they?

[Not as beautiful as a tiger, but he'll accept it for now. Of course, Kija has the food, so now the other two goats have abandoned Jae-Ha to move over to him.]

They seem to like you.

[Oh- oh no, they're all coming here. He's going to run out of food even faster!]

They're hungry— Jae-Ha, Jae-Ha, more food! [Waving his free hand, still transfixed by goats. Get more pellets!!]

[Ah, what a cute image. But alright, he'll go get some more pellets. This time, he comes back with an entire pouch of pellets (and at least two more goats following) and drops it into Kija's hand. He can feed them all, see!]

Here you are.

[Meanwhile, Jae-Ha will linger nearby and pet some of them.]

[!!! A whole pouch! He's going to be covered in goats. Is this happiness... There are so many goats now he's resorted to using his right hand to hold enough food to feed them all at once, how lucky that none of the children around can see this weirdness.]

I have decided "petting zoos" are not such bad places, after all!

[This is so cute... But the goats are getting too excitable. At this rate, they'll bury Kija, big hand and all. Jae-Ha moves over, causing a few of them to back away as he leans down just enough to place his hand on Kija's head.]

I think I enjoy them, myself. Make sure you disperse it evenly. The ones in the back may feel neglected.

[No, his goats...!! He glances up at Jae-Ha then at his hand, obligingly pushing some of the pellets around and adding a bit more from the pouch. The goats are still all over his lap, but he shouldn't be totally overcome by tiny goats, now.]

If you enjoy it, then... we could come back here, as well. [Hopeful...!! They could even bring Yona!! Amazing.]

Sure.

[Watching Kija being buried in goats... He also thinks of bringing Yona, and imagining them both completely in love with a bunch of animals. She's a very intense girl, but she must like cute things like this, right?

Oh, some of the goats are bumping into Jae-Ha's legs.] They're even more energetic the longer we stay here. You'll be out of food in no time, like this.

[She must!! It would be fun, the three of them and a hundred goats...]

Oh- [He hefts what's left in the pouch a little- hmm, yes, that's going to run out soon.] When that time comes, I wonder if they'll seek the children's company instead...

Unfortunately, you'll be left behind and abandoned. After all, they can only focus on what their stomach desires.

[They're goats.] Don't be too upset. You'll still have my company, and when we return, we'll have even more to feed them.

[JAE-HA... That's the sound of his heart breaking!!]

Do you also want me to feed you?

If you'd like. [don't suggest these things...]

[Oh. O...kay??]

Are you hungry...? Have you been hungry this whole time?

[This answer is too pure to take advantage of.]

A little, but that's not the point. [Kija...] Take your time and finish feeding these happy goats.

[Please do not starve, Best Friend.]

Well, alright. [He'll just feed goats... Eventually he does indeed run out of pellets and the goats linger for a little bit, trying to nudge more food out of him, but once they've determined he's totally done, they leave. It's so sad...!!

Kija gets to his feet, brushing himself off and not looking sad over the loss of goats. He is fine.]

We'll return soon.

That's right. [He places a hand comfortingly on Kija's shoulder.] It's best not to say goodbye, when you're meant to return.

[They're GOATS... Goats that have abandoned them completely. So Jae-Ha moves to exit the petting zoo now. It was a fun little detour... It's not so bad to spend time like this.]

[Wistfully looking over his shoulder as they leave... But then he looks at Jae-Ha and smiles, 100% genuinely. Buddy.]

You're right. It was a well-spent afternoon.

[Jae-Ha is quiet at that, but it's a nice kind of silence. Comfortable. He won't outright agree with such an embarrassing thing between him and this man he's barely met, but... It's true that he had more fun than he expected. He doesn't know what to think about the relationship between his leg and Kija's hand, but this warm fondness for him is from his own heart.

So this doesn't go against anything he thinks or feels in regards to freedom and beauty.]

I know you so much better now, after all of that. [Hates bugs, lightweight, cute while covered in goats...]

Do you think so? [He's pleased, that was the plan... Now that he thinks about it, does he know Jae-Ha better now than before? He knows he can hold his liquor and make off-color jokes, but also... from Kija to goats, the amount of compassion to come out of this man today has been a pleasant surprise.

They may not know where they've come from or why they're drawn to each other, but Kija becomes more and more sure Jae-Ha is a valuable person to have around, even so.

Also: bonding!!!!]

Of course spending time together was a good idea. I am glad I thought of it.

[He also was the one to decide they 'investigate' the petting zoo, for the record, but he's not going to bring that up for Reasons.] Putting that aside, the goats were rather cute. I think Yona dear would like to come along, next time, as well.

[Did Jae-Ha say something incorrect? Seems like it. Anyway, Yona...]

I agree. And now we've determined it's a safe place, there is no reason she shouldn't enjoy herself here...!
