Test Drive #34

Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:
1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!
Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.

The fresh new spring fashion trend is accessorized denim. Super-accessorized! Bells, chains, beads, zippers, belts and more drip from every inch of this season's hot styles, and the stores need someone to model their new stock -- and bring in the buyers. It's your job to convince the fashion-savvy residents of Tokyo that these new jeans are exactly what their wardrobe needs, without getting your five chain belts tangled.
A huge, panther-shaped ayakashi is haunting the streets of Asakusa, and the pigeons at the local pigeon shrine have disappeared! Take care of this feline predator so the surviving sacred birds won't end up as dinner on the wing.
The residents of an Ikebukuro high-rise have an unusual problem: no matter how sunny the day or how long it's been hanging, their laundry just won't dry! Do they have a moist microclimate? An ayakashi of mold and despair? Or do they just need someone to get all that wet laundry to the nearest laundromat with a dryer until the weather warms up?
A gardener in Ueno has planted a brand-new strain of muskmelon in his window boxes, and this plant is going wild! Vines have taken over the exterior of his apartment building, and beach-ball-sized fruit are popping up all over. He needs help bringing in the harvest… but his neighbors are begging for this plant to wind up in the compost heap so their lives can go back to normal. Whose side will you take?
A community art project is being hosted at the Tokyo Art Museum! Jigsaw-shaped pieces of wood about the size of a hand have been handed out to artists and crafters throughout Japan, and the pieces have just been shipped back. Now, they have to be assembled into one giant jigsaw puzzle for display. There's just one problem: someone forgot to number the pieces before they were shipped! Now they've got a 20,000 piece puzzle whose pieces don't match, and it has to be finished this weekend for the grand opening. Help!

If you're uncertain about anything, feel free to check out the Premise, Rules, and FAQ posts. And don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have on the FAQ!
When and if you're ready to join the game, check out the Taken Characters before throwing in a Reserve and starting on your Application
Have fun!

[ The thing about that is someone’s already been pointing out all her weaknesses, used them to hurt her, for the last ten years. Maybe it was why Barry targeted her in the first place, who knows. This is not news to her, not things she hasn’t realized. Which is why her tone, for once, isn’t anxious or unsure. ]
I know that. [ She starts to walk towards the agitated birds perched by their temple. A subtle scent comes from her, wafting towards them, and they start to settle down. Fidgeting less, they stop crowding next to one another too. She only let’s out a little bit though, not wanting to make the birds pass out. ]
I don’t have any magical abilities other than the god power lent to me here, or any past combat training. I don’t have the makings of a leader nor did I get much schooling. I’m not some supernatural being and I’m not even some special type of human. I’m really not anyone remarkable. [ And she wasn’t saying this in a self-depricating manner. They were facts, and ones she had accepted as part of the cards she was dealt. ]
But trying is all I can do until I can actually do it. [ Maybe it wasn’t enough to do all that he had said right now, but it was enough for her to survive to this point, a point where she can actually learn to do more. It frustrated her, but that’s just where she was at the moment, and she can’t rush it. ]
And it’s because I don’t want those around me hurt again that I try. I won’t just stand by, not anymore.
[ One of the pigeons fluffs it feathers, probably because of the cold, but the sight makes Alex smile a little. ]

[ Berserker's expression remains unchanged as she speaks. He listens instead of just turning to leave. That alone is enough to signal he's impressed...well, as impressed as he gets. It was a challenge he presented her, a defiant stance for her to stand against. Any time he sees a weaknesses in someone, he seizes on it and digs at it until they either break or he's satisfied with their answer.
There's a short, cold laugh from the Servant, a twisted smile on his face, his sharp teeth showing. ]
Good. If you had backed down from my challenge, I would have considered that a mistake. [ He says that as if it means something to anyone but himself. ] If you're not capable of overcoming your weakness, you'll die soon enough.
no subject
A challenge..? [ She couldn’t figure what he’d be challenging her about or why. ]
no subject
[ Cold, but again without judgement. ]
If you had backed down and admitted you were too weak, you would have failed my challenge. You do have a spine.
no subject
......T..thanks..?
[ She was pretty sure she admitted to being weak, but she wasn’t about to correct anything he said just now. And there seemed to be some kind of compliment in there, at least? ]
You seem to have settled into all this pretty easily. Have you fought things like ayakashi before?
no subject
The indifferent expression comes back to his face as he answers the question. ]
Yes. It's what I'm meant to do.
[ Servants are nothing more than tools to be used by mages. He's used to fighting other Servants, powerful creatures, and even demonic pillars, so fighting something like ayakashi is nothing for him. ]
It's all I'm meant to do.
no subject
[ It seemed there were many who had something they were meant to do, several similar to his. Alex notices that some of the wooden perches erected for the pigeons had been knocked down, some broken. She starts to pick up the undamaged ones to try and put them back in place again. ]
What would you like to do? [ She won’t challenge what he believes he’s supposed to do, that never really gets anywhere. Hell, she thought she was meant for one thing and one thing only for the rest of her life before coming here. Alright, maybe she’s still unsure about that, but the question of what she actually wanted was brought up a few times, so she’s curious about what others have to say. ]
no subject
What I "like" is meaningless. There's only what I'm meant to do.
[ He truly has no desires for anything. There's no joy, no warmth, no ambition. His only purpose is to fight like a machine. The only desire one could find in him is the desire to find a place to finally die. ]
no subject
[ He just said it was meaningless, not that it didn’t exist. She pushes the perch into the ground as deep as she can, then tries to secure it with more dirt and rocks. There’s a few more to put back, but the broken ones...Maybe she could get some more at a store. One thing at a time though, and she goes to put the others back up. ]
Even something here you’d like to try?
no subject
[ Truly, there's nothing. Nothing holds his interest. He really just wants to be left alone to do his work, the never ending work.
Berserker just continues to observe the work he's deemed pointless with a slightly frustrated expression. ]
no subject
[ Even with her back turned now, she could feel his frustration from where she was standing. ]
Am..I doing this wrong or something?
no subject
[ Pointless curiosity. Berserker exhales a sharp sigh. ]
I don't understand why you're bothering to fix the perches. Leave that to the keepers of this shrine. It's not your job.
no subject
Oh..I just figured, if I can, then why not? I could just leave them but... [ She finishes adjusting the last one. ] I couldn’t get rid of the ayakashi, but I can still do this much at least.
no subject
It's still pointless. Doing more than you need to will just lead to more thankless work.
no subject
But it’s good, thankless work. I’ll take that any day. [ She says it almost with a bit of excitement. Compared to what she did before this, she felt this was much, much more worhtwhile.
Taking a step back, Alex looks over the clean up job and smiles in satisfaction, a few of the birds hopping over to the perches.
Alex looks over at him with a sheepish but pleased smile on her face.
And maybe it’s not always said or heard, but it’s not completely thankless.
no subject
You'll burn yourself out trying to please others for nothing in return.
[ A warning...? It's hard to tell with the way he speaks. An indifferent look is all she gets beyond those words. ]
What should I call you?
no subject
This time..this time it’s worthwhile. [ She let’s out a small sigh as she gives him a small smile. She does appreciate the advice. ]
Oh, I haven’t— um, Alex. Alex is fine. [ Though now she’s realizing something else she hadn’t done. ]
By the way..are you okay? Your fight with the ayakashi..you didn’t get hurt, did you? [ She looks him over for any signs of inury or blight. ]
no subject
[ Any sign of blight would be easy to spot, considering how little clothing he wears on his upper body. But he appears to be unharmed, despite how little regard he had for his own well being during the fight. ]
Why does that matter to you? My state should be of no concern to you.
no subject
[ Maybe she didn’t have to, but it didn’t sit right with her to just leave him be if he were hurt. It does seem he was unharmed though, and no blight in sight. ]
no subject
[ His voice is firm, his eyes narrowed slightly. ]
Your only concern should be you and yours. I'm of no importance to you.
no subject
...You don't need to be important to me for that.
[ She thought the same way before, until someone finally showed her that things could be different. ]
It's not misplaced.
no subject
It's misplaced because I say it is. You have no reason to be concerned for me -- it's a waste of time and effort on your part.
no subject
[ She’s had people not want help before, but he was particularly stubborn about it. He actually reminded her a little bit of someone else. ]
Why..Does t bother you so much that I’m concerned?
