Test Drive #32

TEST DRIVE # 32

Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters!
Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.

Zip Zippers
The popularity of a certain video game has led to a spike in clothing designs featuring a lot of zippers. A lot. Whether self-altered or bought, it seems like most every bit of casual clothing now has zippers from head to toe.
This has led to a viral competition among youth: unzip as many zippers on your unsuspecting target as possible. Bonus points if you get it on video for the world to see!
Become one of the trendy and show off your zippered up clothes, at the risk of being hit by a prankster. Defend innocent passers-by from said pranksters. Or you and your cameraperson can aim for internet glory by unzipping all the things. (Is going unnoticed by Near Shore people an unfair advantage? Careful about drawing too much attention to yourself!)

Amazing Apricot
Amazing Apricot is the nickname of a dwarf bunny that has become an internet sensation. Apricot’s owner has trained her to do all sorts of tricks like a dog - beg, shake a paw, play fetch, roll over, jump through a hoop… all made delightfully more adorable when performed by this tiny rabbit.
But owner Nakazawa is in a pinch- he’s hit a mental block about what to try getting Apricot to do next, and the internet is going to move on without her if he doesn’t do something fast.
Can you help teach this bunny a new trick and save her internet popularity? Or should you convince Nakazawa that it’s curtains for this show?

Blue Blues
In the night clubs of Shinjuku, blues music is the sweeping trend. Ever beings to make use of whatever humans are passionate about, ayakashi have been clustering around the clubs. The side-effect of this is that people have been becoming very depressed after listening to sad songs, and way too wound up after listening to the up-beat ones.
Help moderate the mood swings by getting rid of the loitering ayakashi.

The Case Case
You get a strange prayer over your phone: There is a briefcase at a specific, but remote, location. The request is simply for the case to be looked after for five hours.
Should you choose to accept the request, you’ll find everything as described.
The only trouble is that two hours in, you suddenly are assailed by a knife-wielding mob, intent on getting that case by any means! Since when did you become the unwitting star of an action movie?
(For the detail-oriented, the case can contain anything from gold bars to peanut butter, and the particulars behind the scenario anything you like. It’s not game canon, so go wild!)

Digital Dragons
The latest update to a popular fantasy MMO has players everywhere glued to their keyboards trying to defeat an epic dragon boss. The rewards are exclusive but the fight is almost unbeatable: some of the dedicated (and frustrated) players are praying for divine monster-killing assistance, some are praying for a good healer or tank, and some of their friends are praying that they remember to spend enough time off the computer to eat and sleep!

Zippers

[You can BET YOUR ASS that Lance is hopping on this latest trend as quickly as he possibly can. His hat, his pants, his jacket - everything has more zippers than any article of clothing has any right to have. Hell, he's even glued zipper pulls onto each side of his enormous sunglasses. That's how dedicated to this trend he is!]

Heeeeeey! What's up? You wanna come hang out with m--

[And wouldn't you know it. Whoever pulled down Lance's zipper managed to get the only one holding his pants up. Welcome to the world, light blue boxers! Enjoy your presentation...]

Blues

[Lance leans against the wall as he and his god watch people exit the bar, arms crossed and a thoughtful expression on his face.]

Are you sure it's not just like... normal reactions to music? I mean, I get sad when I listen to sad music too! I don't think demons do that, though...

[There's a pause while he considers.]

...do... do they??

Dragons

[Lance... is definitely one of those people trying desperately to beat the dragon. NOT LIKE HE'S A HUGE NERD OR ANYTHING!! He just hates when he can't beat a boss battle!! Everything has to have a way to win, right?? Then so does this!

After suffering another crushing defeat, Lance slinks from his room, hair bedraggled and wearing pajamas still, to go commandeer some food from the kitchen.]

Uuuuughhhhh why won't that stupid dragon die already?!

[You will find him with his head plastered to the door of the fridge, glowering at it as if it is at fault for the dragon's invincibility.]

The Case Case

[It was already kind of ridiculous that he had to watch a briefcase for five hours, but even doubly so it couldn't be done peacefully. Hope sighed and set down the thick novel he had been reading to help pass the time as he was surrounded.

He stood up from his seat, the briefcase coming with him and held behind him. He hadn't looked at the contents nor did he care to. But these people seemed to. God or no, he wasn't sure he could take on this many and he hadn't wanted to test it out now.]

I would rather we didn't do this.

[Of course, they didn't listen and the first knife wielding assailant was stopped by a light blue tortoise shell suddenly appearing just before the weapon could make contact. Thank goodness he still had his normal magic. A small thunder spell had the man reeling back with a shocked cry.]

Digital Dragons

[A water bottle and a premade sandwich was set down next to a clearly exhausted but zoned in player, one of many, in this internet cafe. Hope wasn't sure how he could help the players win their battles but food and hydration? That he could do.

It was easy enough too, what with the ability to be more or less unnoticed most of the time, even when buying food. Just a passing glance and nothing else. So different from when he was the Director. Hope found he enjoyed the anonymity. He smiled a little to himself as he made his way to his comoanion that joined him.]

Have you ever played a game like this? Seems fun but I'm not sure I could give up lunch over it.

[A soft laugh as he glanced about the room.]

[ It's small and stupidly cute. It pisses him off. What a waste of time. He stares at it, and its owner, frowning. The owner frowns back, fidgeting anxiously as he sits on the grass across from Sanzo. ]

Mind if I smoke?

[ Sanzo whips out his case from his sleeve without waiting for a reply and lights up. Maybe it annoys Nakazawa some more, but he doesn't care. He takes a drag and glances back at the rabbit. It's approaching him curiously, sniffing at the ashes as they fall into the grass from his cigarette. They sit in silence. Maybe he's hoping Nakazawa will just give up and let the damn rabbit be a rabbit instead of some freakshow. ]

the case case

[ Pick up the case, watch it for five hours. Sounds simple enough. He's immediately suspicious. Maybe he's got some experience with this sort of thing, where things look deceptively easy but turn out to be the biggest pain in the ass ever. He wouldn't know, but the fact that this feels familiar is extremely annoying, somehow. ]

Here, take this.

[ He shoves the case off to his associate so he can address this situation appropriately. He pulls out his gun, because of course he does. He doesn't have time for this bullshit. Fortunately (for whom??) the mob is all human, and the last time he checked, bullets can take them out just the same. ]

Case

[ at first, the prayer almost seemed too good to be true? sit and watch a briefcase for some hours, do absolutely nothing but perhaps scan the area and keep and lookout for any kind of weird bugs that might fly by or crawl around? a giant, empty warehouse honestly seemed like the best place for him to keep an eye on the case while wandering around with his face down toward the ground.

but as soon as the mob of knife-wielding humans poured in, it became very clear to Keaton what was going on. ]

Are you looking for spiders too? [ he quietly digs into his pocket and pulls one out, holding it toward the closest man. ] We can share! This one seems pretty common, but man the hairs on it are really neat!

[ and he immediately has to dodge a knife thrust at him, which makes Keaton scowl in return. ]

You could've hurt me with that!

[ which is clearly the intent, but Keaton's not really catching what this mob is giving. ]

Dragons

[ sitting in an internet cafe, Keaton is stuck at the worst part of a MMO. it's not the long hours of grinding, farming materials for crafted gear or consumables, or even the arduous task of learning the epic dragon boss fight!

no. it's character creation.

he has too many options, and none of them are ones he likes? staring at the screen, his tail is twitching in general irritation. his ears are angled down, as he hums in contemplation while batting around the mouse from left to right on its pad next to the keyboard.

also his fingers are on the arrow keys and not WASD. ]

Hey... um. [ looking around, he's hoping to catch someone's eyes and beckon them over with a few shakes of his head. ] Help.

Amazing Apricot
[Helping teach a bunny new tricks... Pidge doesn't know what else a bunny could do. She didn't even know you could teach bunnies tricks. They were just fluffy pets that people seemed to have who couldn't handle having a dog.

So she's sitting here, bunny in her lap, with a large piece of paper in front of her.]

What would be amazing... A training course? Maybe a tiny jetpack?

The Case Case
[Waiting for five hours to pass is no big deal since Pidge has a phone to play on. It was an easy job, something she could do with her eyes closed, even if that wasn't recommended. And then the mobs happens and Pidge regrets agreeing to watch this case.

Sorry to whoever comes across her. She'll be shoving a case into your arms.] Hold this while I fight these guys!

Digital Dragons
[This was great!!!! Spending hours trying to figure out strategies on how to beat this boss. Making sure the character was just the right level with the right gear to even be able to stand a little bit of a chance. Finding just the right kind of team to do this with for maximum dragon slaughter capabilities.

Only to be soundly defeated after a marathon run without a single break.

Pidge hasn't slept in days due to this. Talking to herself as she makes strategies on how to approach this battle differently to maybe win this time. Someone, please get this girl to bed wherever you find her.]

Blue Blues

[If combat is involved, Bakugou's going to be in the thick of it. He can't Rend ayakashi without a shinki, but with his quirk, he can certainly put them to inconvenience. Not to mention that while Bakugou himself may go rather unnoticed, his explosions definitely don't; anywhere he engages with ayakashi, their victims clear out fast. So, the way he sees it, he's killing two birds with one stone, even if he's killing zero ayakashi - they don't have the freedom to victimize anyone, and even if they did, Bakugou's driving everyone they could prey on away.

Granted, this means he's pissing off a lot of ayakashi at once, and he may be getting surrounded by them, but he'd be a piss-poor excuse for a hero if he couldn't handle what amounts to a mob of low-level mooks. He has to play keepaway if he doesn't want to get blighted, but with the maneuverability his quirk gives him, that's not gonna be hard.

He grins wolfishly at the horde, explosions crackling in his palms, eyes darting around as he tries to keep track of the ones in his periphery.] Come and get some, you ugly fucks!

[If you're anywhere in the vicinity, it's impossible to miss the noisy show Bakugou is putting on. In fact, it may be the only show in the area, because the club he's blowing things up in front of has probably cleared out entirely. Do you want to criticize Bakugou's methods? Help the clearly surrounded teenager? Bakugou won't thank you for either, but you're welcome to try.]

The Case Case

[The only reason Bakugou took this particular prayer was because it sounded sketchy as hell. There was no way it was going to go smoothly; hell, there's no way the whole thing isn't criminal in nature in some way. He'd only been following the directions of the prayer because he'd figured that whoever wanted them to protect the stupid briefcase would show up once they'd finished looking after it to collect it, and then he'll be able to grab them and find out just what the fuck they're up to.

He hadn't really counted on company - he sure as hell hadn't wanted it - but apparently he's not the only one who got messaged this particular prayer. And, well, what can you fucking do. So, whoever you are, you've been hanging out with a rather bored and characteristically surly Bakugou for the past two hours.

Honestly, the knife-wielding assailants might be something of a relief.

Bakugou certainly thinks so; he grins, rising to his feet and rolling a shoulder.] About fucking time. [He's clearly ready to throw down with the attackers, whether you are or not.]

Amazing apricot

[The rabbit hops once and looks around curiously. It doesn't know what to do next. Ren places his index finger on his chin.]

Why not make her disappear? Isn't that a popular trick?

[He's just giving his 2cents here. If it hasn't been done yet then it's worth trying.]

You could hide her under a hat...maybe.

Digital Dragons

[Someone's been playing mmorpg for too long. Ren's not leaving this spot until the dragon dies!!! He's got a serious look on his face and it means business. ]

I'll tank this time. Can you heal?

[He's just asking anyone who's playing this game. Please heal him when he gets hurt. Tanking alone is painful. ]

[Since he wants help, Miyako actually take her time to try and think about this. Which is... a little hard, as she's not entirely sure what qualifies as a trick and what most normal people would know.]

Perhaps you could teach her to fight?

[Look... she tried. It's either she tries, or tell him to give it up.]

► The Case Case
[Of course such a simple sounding prayer is anything but that. Miyako have her whip out, cracking it threateningly near the ground where the nearest mobster stand. For a task like this, she doesn't deem it worthy of expending her magic... yet.]

If you won't back away and leave, I won't miss.

[Because goodness, if she haven't agree to this task, she would just give it to them and do something more productive.

Unfortunately, the threat doesn't seem to sink into their minds. Frowning, she watches them carefully. All while the suitcase is still right beside her.]

[Miyako observed the battle over someone's shoulder with some mild interest. A team of players, each in their different classes and performing their role, almost moving together like a well oiled machine. It's like when she was in command back home, giving orders to JP's in areas she's not at.]

... Ah, they lost.

[The poor team got wiped out one by one to a trigger. While the player at this computer just let out a frustrated cry, she slide the water bottle closer to him.]

I wonder if the controls are simple to learn?

[She almost want to take a stab at it.]

[ In the grand scheme of things, the escapades of one lone streamer and his fabuulous floppity friend might not add to much. But the number of people who derive joy from watching the antics of a single bunny is baffling.

At least, it seems that way, right up until Ysayle herself takes the time to actually watch Nakazawa's videos. ]

..It's so cute..

[ Uttered softly as she watches on her smart phone, eyes round and wide and delight blooming with warmth within in her chest. How could anyone refuse to help bunny in their time of need? Not her, that's for sure!

...She's not paying the strictest of attention to who might notice her reactions, distracted as she now is from the actual goal of aiding Nakazawa. (I mean, just look at it.) ]

[ Let it not be said that Ysayle is not capable of hiding in plain sight: quite a feat when one is tall and pale as ice. Yet so few here spare her a first glance, let alone give her a second in spite of all that.

She rather wishes the location of the case were a little less urban, a little less blatently out in the open, but it's not her wish being granted here. (A part of her can't help but be curious about the possible contents, but it isn't for her to know. For the moment.)

Idle coffee is abandoned when she's finally forced to her feet about two hours in, when a very armed, very stabby looking group emerge from seemingly nowhere. It would be a simple enough matter to summon a thaumaturge's ice spell to her fingertips as one hand closes about the scepter at her back. But first: Lady Iceheart stares down the people surrounding her, expression stern. ]

Go on about your business elsewhere, I have no quarrel with you.

[ Ysayle's dislike of this game's premise cannot be understated, and those struggling with loss will find no sympathy for their failures.

(Why isn't diplomacy the route players can take in this instance? Why is it always the dragon at fault, that the dragon must be fought and killed to succeed at some goal, for mere trinkets?)

This does not, however, mean that she'll neglect those in need: any who emerge from their rooms to take a break from loss after loss will be assaulted by the scent of good cooking, wafting from the kitchen. ]

I wondered when you would appear. [a smile, and a wave towards the nearest chair] You look in need of a good meal, and a proper rest besides.

Amazing Apricot

[How could anyone give up on such a cute rabbit? While the concept of "internet sensation" might be unfamiliar and strange to Petra Ral, the concept of morale is not. The Amazing Apricot's performances bring high spirits and morale to all, too, don't they? So ensuring they continue is important.

The petite redhead can be found sitting crosslegged on the floor in front of the rabbit, giving her a cheerful, encouraging smile. Surely, teaching a bunny how to tumble will be enough to earn Apricot a permanent place in everyone's hearts.]

Okay, Apricot. We'll start really small with a basic hop on command. I think we can do it.

[She extends her hand well over the bunny's head.]

Hop! Hop as high as you can!

Blue Blues

[There's something instinctively familiar about being around so many long faces. It bothers Petra to see so much sadness in a place that seems dedicated to providing joy. Before she can approach the maestro - she doesn't know the term 'DJ' - about playing something cheerful, a livelier, fast paced tune with heavy bass strikes up.

It doesn't take very long for Petra to realize that this isn't any better and prevents another danger. People on the dance floor are suddenly and quickly on edge, shoving and shouting at her as their passions grow inflamed from the music. She does a quick glance around to see if her god's present first before acting but after seeing no one, she enters the fray herself, clad in a cute green cocktail dress and heels, sharply elbowing a person here to knock the wind out of them, grappling someone else there in a way that suggests hand-to-hand combat training of some kind.]

Hey! Stop that. Stop fighting! There's no reason to do this!

[Petra's a petite woman and many of the fighters are a good deal larger than her. She might need some help or a call from another to direct her to the ayakashi.]

The Case Case

[The briefcase is heavy but Petra's physically stronger than she looks. She's only human, however, with human limitations so she's getting steadily getting winded in her flight from their pursuers the longer it goes on. She hastily turns to her partner, gasping out a question.]

Can we find a place to hide and lose them?
