Test Drive #26

Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:
1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!
Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.
Ayakashi generally have a particular method by which to hurt humans. But an ayakashi has appeared that seems to be completely random in its methods, and anyone merely being near it becomes a target of its malevolence in a variety of ways. Dispatch this vagrant ayakashi before it harms far too many people.
Hitchhiking in Japan is rare. A friendly but lost-looking foreigner on the side of the road will attract fascination, concern and compassion. But a Japanese person doing the same likely won’t attract the same positive attention. Yet here is one Japanese person praying for a way to experience the adventure of the hitchhike. What to do for your follower? Well, going as a group of three sounds good, doesn’t it? Just be sure to attract sufficient attention to yourselves so that the drivers will properly notice you!
The X-Games, popular overseas, has suddenly become a hot topic with Japanese competitors taking top spots in skateboarding events. Burning to follow in their wake, young teens have taken to the streets, parks and basically anywhere with a strip of pavement to hone their skateboarding skills (which may or may not exist in the first place). While it’s good to see kids getting away from the computer screen, they’re also becoming a public nuisance: damaging handrails, narrowly missing pedestrians, and making noise right up to sunset. Answer the prayers of the kids yearning for glory? Answer the prayers of those wishing for peace in their neighbourhoods again? (...What’s a ‘skateboard’ anyway?)
An enthusiastic grade-schooler has started a new career helping people find love! She's hooked up teachers, classmates' parents, even random strangers… but it seems like all the matches she's trying to make this month have gone horribly wrong! Is she being stalked by an ayakashi or is this just bad luck? Either way, she needs help getting her mojo back.
In the trendy Ginza area, a mall has set up an elaborate indoor display of lights set to represent the real night sky. The key feature is the evening illumination show, where the various zodiac constellations are lit up to music. Strangely, there are growing rumours that those who view the show become even more focused on their horoscopes (much to the benefit of local fortune tellers). It’s even said that people’s personalities shift to become more stereotypical to their respective signs. Take in the show for yourself and see what happens?

If you're uncertain about anything, feel free to check out the Premise, Rules, and FAQ posts. And don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have on the FAQ!

Have fun!

Ugh, look—most people have fully-connected arms and not just hands floating around where an arm should be. And the hole in your chest is... [unnatural. disturbing. scientifically impossible. spooky.
Add groans again, forcing himself to look away. He can't stop staring at it but it's so creepy why is it like that]
If you can't do something about it, we need to cover it up better. Otherwise people are going to keep mistaking you for an ayakashi. [and Add is going to keep stressing over accidentally touching the chest-eye again by mistake or putting a hand through where Ain's arm should be and freaking himself out]

He frowns a little, looking vaguely downward in the direction of his body. Something lingers at the edge of his memory, a form different from this one...
... the images slips through his fingers like sand.
Hm.
He gives Add a closer look, noting the conformation of his limbs. He could try and copy that... maybe.
A moment later, he manages to solidify his arms. The hole in his chest is still there, though. ]

He peeks over again once Ain seems to be done, though, and... well, it's a start. But the eye in his chest is still there, staring endlessly at him, pulsating. Add frowns at it.
Hmm.]
... Alright, I have an idea. Stay here. [he points at Ain, as if to emphasize that it is indeed directed at him, before quickly opening a small portal. Add slips out, the crack sealing shut behind him after a few seconds.
He's not gone for long. Add returns a couple minutes later through another portal, tossing something to (or on, if he doesn't catch it) Ain.]
Wear this. It'll cover up your chest, and you won't have to worry about your arms as much.
[It's Add's, but they're almost the same size so it should still fit okay. Also it's a hoodie covered in adorable cat faces, because of course it is.]

When Add emerges from the return portal, he would give the other youth a nod as acknowledgement. Slender fingers hook onto the sleeves of the tossed hoodie, and he holds the article of clothing in front of him to inspect it. The colour is approximate to his own palette, and there are cats.
(Cats are good.)
Ain holds the hoodie against his chest before partially demanifesting and re-manifesting inside it. It's probably a.... really weird thing to watch. ]

He immediately turns himself around, waiting a few extra seconds just to be sure Ain is done doing... whatever other weird shit he needs to do to dress himself. Eventually he peeks nervously over his shoulder to check. Once he can confirm the worst of it is over, he casually clears his throat and turns back around like nothing happened.]
W-well, that's an improvement. [please don't comment he's fine everything is fine] You're still going to stand out, but hopefully they won't make assumptions anymore...

Ain blinks at Add's visceral reaction of horror, but doesn't comment on it. There is no need to. ]
Is this okay?
[ He holds out his hands in front of him, limbs (and lack thereof) safely covered by fabric. He supposes it was the norm to wear clothes for his human disguise, but the need for it just didn't seem important anymore.
There's also the matter of his legs, but.. ]

[Now the only issue is... the rest of Ain... but they can take this one step at a time. It's a simpler task to just not look down, compared to not looking at any visible part of Ain. There's a "safezone" now! So Add is just not going to look down for the rest of this mission, probably. Better hope that ayakashi they're looking for isn't small.]
... Anyway, if anyone else gives you trouble I'll deal with it myself. Let's keep going for now. That damn thing could be anywhere by now.

Some things fade into the background of inconsequentiality, like other people. At least, he's less trigger happy than a certain other someone with blue hair. ]
We wasted some time...
[ He closes his human eye, sending out a few streaks of darkness in front of him. The ayakashi must have left a trace, he can follow it by devouring the minute magical signature that marks its path. ]

Dynamo, long range scanning mode. [The machines are already starting to move into formation after he speaks their name, automatically plotting out a scouting path to maximize the covered area. He keeps one at his side, the other five flying off in different directions. Ain can follow the ayakashi's trail, and Dynamo can scout out any possible escape routes. Once they find their target it'll be easier to corner if they know where it'll go next.
The downside is Add can't defend himself with only one dynamo, though. It'll take some time to pull all his machines back in. He sticks close to Ain, keeping an eye on a small holoscreen in case something crosses his machine's paths.]
Hmm... apparently this ayakashi behaves in an unpredictable manner, so be cautious when we find it. There's no telling how it'll react to a god and shinki. [besides trying to eat them, of course.]

Understood.
[ It is easy to blank out his awareness save for the scent of the prey that they pursue, so he will lead Add down several streets. His pace increases subconsciously once a few minutes have passed - the trail thickens, and a finality begins to solidify between his (human) hands. His pendulum takes shape, a crystal carved into undulating waves, glowing with a deep green light.
— there it is, a tail turning down a corner, leaving dark drops of mud in its wake. Once they cross the intersection, he would be ready to pounce. Unless Add has another idea...? ]
