TEST DRIVE # 23



Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters!
Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.

Gross Garbage

Waste removal has become an intense process in many cities in Japan. Because the sorting of different trash can be very complicated, some residents just end up saying to heck with it. However, the neighbours are vigilant, and heap curses upon those who break the rules. Putting out the wrong thing on the wrong day, mixing plastics with the burnables, putting out the biodegradables the night before, which attracts crows that scatter the rotting food all over the place… the infractions are many.
Will you join in cursing the ones who can’t follow the rules, or perhaps instead gracefully try to mend their ways?


Honoured Helper

For the last 20 years, Hanako has worked faithfully at her cleaning job, 10 hours a day, 7 days a week, without a single day off.
The momentous achievement was celebrated with her coworkers, but it was unanimous among them that Hanako really should take some time off! But the woman is stubborn, and is completely unwilling to take the time offered. (What would she do with herself, even?)
All her friends and coworkers can do is pray that someone can convince her to take a well-earned rest… It might take some heavenly intervention.


Ingenious Insects

While crows are famous for being clever, there seems to be an insect following in their footsteps. Rhinoceros beetles have been getting in everywhere. It’s late in their lifespan and people are generally hoping the lot of them die off soon, but in the meantime people have been coming home to find the large beetles getting into every room, even when they’re carefully closed up. Probably the only ones thrilled with this are kids who like to collect the bugs for fighting matches.
Residents of the Far Shore will be able to see that there are beetle-like ayakashi running with the mundane ones, and they seem to be on the hunt for something.
Try to figure it out, protect the kids who might mistake an ayakashi for a real rhinoceros beetle, or kill every bug with fire?


Jilted John

John’s girlfriend Julie says she loves him, but she’s up and left for another guy named Gordon. Julie is cruel, heartless, a slut and a bitch! Gordon thinks he’s tough (so what if he’s bigger, better looking and more trendy than John) but he’s actually a moron, a cheap creep and a puff!
John is now desperately wanting someone to deck Gordon the moron good. Preferably smashing his face in. Help Jilted John out?


King’s Keeper

King Koopa, a stout, shorthaired two-year-old tabby, is headed straight for YouTube fame as a video-game-playing cat. Or he was, until, just last week, he completely lost interest in the keyboard. His desperate owner has been trying everything: bird screensavers, a catnip mouse, even treats hidden in the keys... but nothing brings back Koopa's love of the game. Is he just camera shy? Feeling blue? His owner needs divine intervention to help teach a young cat his old trick!

[ This world was full of weird and shitty prayers. Someone works a lot cleaning, is apparently good at it, but they don't want her to work? Always having someone around to clean the area up, every day, was supposed to be normal. Maybe they're sick of the old woman- Who turns out to not be that old. Man, what a pain. ]

Hey, lady.

[ What a great thing to hear this young man call out to a diligent worker. He's got more amazing things to say- his plan will work and it'll be awesome. Just watch it pan out perfectly. ]

Your bosses say you're fired.

[ ... Why was she staring at him like he looked funny? Or like she hadn't even noticed him until now. ]


Jilted John

[ This was the guy they were sent to help out? He was probably the most pathetic, weak-willed small fry that he's seen in the time that he knows. Without even thinking on the memories he doesn't have, Judar's pretty sure this is one of the most pathetic people in all universes. Prayers were supposed to be answered, but this seems so... below him.

Not even the heavens should want to help this guy out. They're not even worth taking that wand thing out and hitting them. ]

There's no way I'm wasting my talents on some flub that can't even hold their ground. If you were even a little bit more awesome, I'd be fine with kicking that guy's ass. This though... You're less than snot.


King's Keeper

[ He tried with no luck, and honestly had no understanding about half of what this whole thing was about in the first place. Either way, the stupid cat wasn't doing much of anything, so Judar was ready to bail and go enjoy doing something that was worth his time. Except he feels something tugging at when he was about to leave. ]

Oi, let go! Who said you had any right to touch hair this awe-

[ That's about the point that King Koopa manages to get his paw into the bottom hair pocket of the braid, which somehow manages to release the air that was in it. It'd been that way since he first woke up in those shitty heavens and a cat just ruined the whole appearance. It's left the magi staring with wide eyes at the feline that was having a grand time with his braid. ]

[Don't mind the snickering coming from this shinki as he watches the cat happily pull and tug on that absurdly long braid. Serves Judar right. Even if Kouga doesn't know a thing about the fellow shinki, it does mean he deserves it any less.

But it's watching the cat continue to play an idea comes to mind. There may be a quick answer to this prayer after all. With that, Kouga walks over to Judar and places a hand on either of his shoulders before not-so gently pushing him towards the computer.]

Move it, pretty boy.

[ The braid's not absurd. It's amazing and obviously a sign of his status that was way higher than the other shinki. They might not know much about a lot of each other, but there were a few obvious things. One is that for as fit as Judar was, he was pathetically weak on the physical side of things. Which is why it's so easy to shove him wherever you wanted him to go, for as long as he was on the ground. ]

Get your hands off me, you pointy-eared mutt.

[ The second is that, despite the fact that Judar easily knew that Kouga wasn't human or anything, he still acted like he was the lord when they were actually peers. The third is, just as Kouga figured, that cat was still chasing along and trying to play with the braid, even as it was getting moved. ]

Shut up. You want to get this over with just as much as I do...

[Kouga huffs. He didn't care for this prayer either. It was dumb and he didn't really understand the point of it but if there was an easy way to finish it, he would.

If he wasn't gentle before, he certainly isn't now. There's one last firm push until they're close enough to the computer that Kouga is satisfied. Keeping one hand firmly on Judar's shoulder sharp nails dig slightly into it as a warning for the other to keep in place. But he does uss the other free hand to reach over and tug the braid over the keyboard. A bit of wiggling is enough to entice the cat to jump up and start pawing at the keyboard.]

[ Ow. Trim your damn nails, you animal. ]

You're going to pay for this.

[ For putting him into such a demeaning position, shoving him around and also touching his magnificent braid. He wasn't sure which deserved the look of disdain more- the dog digging his claws into his shoulder, or the cat that was following along like the idiot it was. Just like that, it was pawing at the keyboard and even rolling over it to try and play with the hair.

Sure, the cat had good taste in liking his hair, but this was below him. It was to be admired and praised, not rolled over and- ]

I'm killing it if it starts chewing on the ends.

[ He started getting that wand out of his top, but Kouga knows that Judar was still processing all of the raw knowledge he had in his head to effectively use the instrument. ]

Gross Garbage

[Adrien is shaking his head gently, a hand resting at his hip.]

Now everyone needs to calm down. Clearly we need to just get things organized better. That said if you sort it as you go it would be so much easier!

[Cheerfully, he's moving to tug forward a trash bin with four sections each painted a different color with a clear bag inside so that the color can be seen, there's a lid that he's holding in his hand It too has each of the colors on it with words labeled on each one.]

This would work much better right?

[Gently, Adrien's hand is coming to rest on Hanako's shoulder, a light soothing touch, the smile on his face is dazzling.]

Your friends tell me you work very, very hard. I'm impressed by your dedication and work ethic - it's admirable but everyone needs a little down time sometimes.

[Carefully he's picking his words. He can see already the flare of stubborn fire in the woman's eyes but he's pressing forward.]

Surely you must have some hobby you've been missing. Maybe family members and friends who would be delighted to have more time with you. [A pause and a sad smile.] Why don't you take the time to explore the city, take in a movie or a show, pamper yourself a bit with a trip to a hot spring or spa?

[Adrien nods to himself.] I know it feels good to be needed. If you work yourself too hard and wear yourself down you won't be able to help anyone.

Jilted John


[A small frown settles on the blond's lips green eyes drifting closed.]

I'm not going to punch some guy because your girlfriend left you. She wasn't happy and she left. That's not this other guy's fault. I don't know the full story here but this isn't something that's going to fix your problem.

[There's still something in his expression.] It's not right of you to call her such horrible things either. You don't.. It doesn't matter how much a girl breaks your heart there are somethings you just don't do or say.

[His eyes close as he tries to reign in his distaste. There are somethings Adrien just isn't okay with guys being jerks to girls is one of them.] I think you're the biggest part of your problem. If calling her a slut and bitch is any indication of how you treated her on an average day I'd say you got what you deserved.


King’s Keeper

[Adrien gives a slow lazy blink at the cat after listening to his owner. After a few more minutes the blond scoops up the cat carefully warily shooting a look at his owner, it's quiet and soft but then he's purring at the cat seeking to calm and bond with his fellow cat... Even if Adrien technically isn't a real cat.]

He might be depressed or maybe you're stressing him out. Has anything changed in the past week or so? Cats are good a picking up on stress, changes, and strange tones in your voice. Changing anything about your daily routine stresses them out, even moving stuff can mess with them.

Wildcard

[Feel like throwing something at everyone's favorite Cat or have a little Chat? This is the option for you.]

[After you cut your dumb hair, brat. A demon needs sharp claws.

Kouga ignores him with his focus on the cat paw at the keyboard and the end of the braid. The owner doesn't seem what to really think with Judar spitting threats but it is working. King Koopa is 'playing' the game on the screen.

Prayer done.

He gives Judar a hard pat on the shoulder for his 'good work' and sacrifice. He could careless about anything now besides getting out of this dump]

I think this is your calling in life. Being a cat's toy.

[Just like that, he's leaving. The prayer is done, maybe not longer term solution but the prayer didn't say anything about that. So long as Judar is there he sees it complete. If he kills that cat, well thats not Kouga's fault or problem. He doesn't even like the fur ball.]

[ Someone else is watching Adrien's attempts at convincing Hanako from a ways away, posed coolly (and antiheroically) leaning in the nearest doorframe. Her arms are crossed, and one leg is propped against the frame.

When the attempts prove unsuccessful, obviously that's her cue to chuckle knowingly. ]

Logic has never swayed a lady's heart.

[Lili cannot believe that she's wound up having to deal with this mess. First of all, it's disgusting! Dealing with literal trash!! And second, why was it so hard for people to realize that they should do things the way they're meant to be done?

Letting out a huff, Lili kicks a trash bag, watching the contents spill out and wrinkling her nose at the smell.]

Ugh...! I feel like cursing the trash is just cursing me!

King's Keeper

[While she might not have much (any) knowledge of computers, Lili is pretty happy to try and help out with a cat.]

Okay, King Koopa~ If you do this, I'll give you lots of sweet belly rubs.

[She is speaking in a child-like voice to the cat, trying to tempt the... completely uninterested creature, huff.]

[ There's obviously a reason for his hair being as long as it is. One that's automatically more important than a demon needing sharp claws, because Kouga's the demon and he's someone that's way better than that.

Once he was released from those claws, he immediately pulled his hair back and kept it draped over an arm to be out of the damn cat's reach. His poor, wonderful braid, which now needed some kind of magical care to be taken care of. The day he figures it all out properly. For now, he's getting out of this dumb place, too.

What? There's no way he's staying in this peasant's dump any longer than he needed. ]

And your calling in life's probably with animal control, stuck in a cage. You're no better than feral strays.

[It was a good thing she'd gotten here when she had. If it had just been normal beetles, it might not have been such a huge problem. Unfortunately, there was something much more dangerous lurking in their midst. Not wanting to cause a panic, Marinette had settled for taking more of an indirect role so far.]

Don't worry, everyone! As inconvenient as things may seem now, this too shall pass~

[And as much as she wanted to believe that, she was still keeping a close eye on the groups of kids who seemed determined to catch the silly insects.]

Jilted John

[Her posture and facial expression were practically screaming Ladybug, despite it being Marinette standing in front of John. She's clearly not happy, and not at all afraid of letting it show.]

Bullying Julie's new boyfriend is not going to solve anything, and will only cause you more problems in the long run.

[But she's not entirely heartless, and she can certainly understand feeling jealous when the object of one's affections starts paying attention to someone else.]

Perhaps, instead of trying to put them down, you might try reaching out to them - together or separately - to talk. It might not bring her back to you, but it might help you feel better.

King's Keeper

[Admittedly, she was excited about this one. Having listened to the cat's owner for a few minutes, she'd since been excused to address the feline himself.]

What's the matter, minou? Feeling a little burnt out? I'm sure your papa doesn't want to force you into doing something you don't really want to do.

[The aforementioned papa might have thought her a little odd if he were watching, given that she's speaking to the cat as she would a friend, but old habits die hard. How long had it been since she'd seen Chat, anyway?]

Mmm... maybe you just need a little break. [At that, she's sitting in the computer chair with the tabby on the desk in front of her.] Or maybe you need a new game~

[He glances back at him, a bit annoyed that Judar didn't stay but not surprised by it. They found a way to make the cat play so it counted at complete, or so Kouga was going to bet on. If it turned out not to be, he knew he just needed to drag Judar back to the boy's place and tie him down or something--Gagged. Or maybe he could just rip out his tongue.]

What'd you say?

[Kouga whirls around back on him, baring his teeth a bit as he snarls.]

I'm getting real tired of your mouth. Keep it up and no god alive will be able to protect you from me.

[hellishrabbit]

[Kamui was just going to save them the trouble and punch the guy square in the face. And away he goes, rolling into some bushes.]

Prayer answered.

[ Their god really needed to stop sending them out on prayers. It almost never ends well, whether or not they manage to get along enough to finish. One of the problems was that Judar had a superiority complex and he seemingly made an easy target for being a lot weaker than he looked. Until he figures out all the stuff he knew. There was just one thing that was keeping him from getting killed for his attitude issues. ]

Someone with your ears should've heard that just fine. I'm saying you're on the same level as an abandoned animal. What makes you think I need a god to protect me, anyway?

[ It's come up before, from instinct, and he had the knowledge to know what it was called. That borg was what kept him protected better than most other things. Especially with how easy it was to goad the world. ]

[ You prayer-sniping bitch. Not that he was going to fulfill the prayer that was beneath him, but that wasn't the point. Where was he even going, after that weird roll? ]

I just said the prayer was too far below everyone to be answered.

[His god decided to take this prayer, but to Kagaho, it seems like a complete waste of time. He watches the cleaning staff chatter on about old Hanako and her work ethic from his chosen spot against the wall, then notices movement out of the corner of his eye.

Oh. That must be Hanako. Hard at work still with her mop and bucket. Once she gets in earshot, he raises his voice enough for her to hear.]

Keep up the good work.

[Because why should someone stop doing her job just because other people want them to slack off?

Of course, this is the opposite of what he's supposed to be doing here, so if you came here with him on this prayer, you may want to intervene...]

[He didn't come here to make little kids cry, but that's how it's ended up. He's standing between them and the ayakashi, but there's nothing he can do until they get to safety and his temper has gotten the best of him. Though he's an imposing figure and you can practically feel the anger radiating off of him, there's something almost panicked about the look on his face. And if you happen to be his god and able to feel the deeper emotion behind all of this, there's a sinking sort of despair as well.]

[Feel free to throw something else at him! Edgelords with rage issues probably aren't the best shinki to take to help out with cute cats or petty neighborhood garbage disputes.]

[Turning he's tilting his head at Hibiki. Adrien knows very little about truly sway a lady's heart - everything he's learned is anime, movies, or books - none of which are reliable or realistic teachers.]

And what do you suggest to help her realize her need of rest and relaxation?

[Hibiki might know better than him. She's probably got more real social experience than Adrien does.]

[He's hanging back watching Marinette, his hand rubbing at the back of his neck. She's been far kinder than he would be but he supposes that's why she's the god and he isn't.

Ah, but it's so nice to to see her like this. Even if it's obvious to him she doesn't approve of this person's wish she's still doing her best to help him. As expected of his god.Moving to them he's taking a seat at her side.]

I don't think anything will bring her back but it would give you some closure for sure. Then you'll be able to walk away and move on to bigger and better things. Find someone new. Maybe she just wasn't the girl for you.

[She'd nearly forgotten he was there, which was saying something. But now was not the time to dwell on that.]

He's right.

[She saw him moving just at the edge of her vision and fought the urge to turn her head, instead keeping her focus on John for now.]

It's very possible that the two of you are just not meant for one another. Or if your ... current attitude toward her is any indication, I can't honestly blame her for leaving.

[At that, she just shrugs.]

You can't force someone to love you, or stay with you if they don't want to. Not only that, but I sincerely doubt that calling her names, and throwing insults around when they're not here is going to accomplish anything in the long run.

But approaching her civilly might, so that's your best bet.

[Seeing John start to get a bit agitated Adrien is quick to step in and shift his focus off of his god.]

Excellent point. You don't treat the person you love like that. You're supposed to love them, that's not how you show love. And love... Love has to be freely and willingly given or it isn't really love.

[Adrien snorts at that. Yeah he can't blame this girl either. This guy is a piece of work. If Adrien ever had a girl he would treat her like royalty.]

Neither will having someone else do your dirty work. Violence isn't the answer. If anything it'll just make her dislike you even more.

[ Hibiki smirks. Unfolding herself from the doorframe, she makes her leisurely way to Hanako's side, full enough of poise that she ought to attract attention by the mere act of walking.

This person is also a model, Adrien. What's more - they're a celebrity.

When Hibiki reaches the pair, she bows, but doesn't take her eyes off the overworked woman. ] Miss Hanako, I presume? You're unmistakable. The diligence in your eyes is like the northern star.

[ Speaking of stars, the air around Hibiki has. Filled with sparkles. And her voice echoes attractively despite not raising her volume. ]

Rei Kizaki | Aikatsu Stars! | Shinki

[ Gross Garbage ]

WRIST! WRIST! CHEST!

[ Rei has a broom. Rei has a pile of garbage. Crows want the pile of garbage.

Rei is wielding the broom like a shinai and fending the crows off from the pile of garbage. Those with good eyes may notice she stops her strikes short of actually hitting any birds, but she does give them enough close calls to send them squawking in the other direction.

Unfortunately, there also seem to be no end to them. ]

[ Rei is stalking a bug.

She's being very casually dispassionate about it. The bug itself won't feel its eyes on her. But she is definitely tracking this one particular beetle as it makes its way around the Near Shore.

Something strange is going on, and it wouldn't do to strike too soon. ]

[ King's Keeper ]

[ Rei is seated on the floor with her feet tucked beneath herself. King Koopa lolls to one side of her. An ignored video console sits on the other.

Rei herself is watching one of King Koopa's YouTube videos. For context. ]

He really did play them. How very intriguing.

[ Yata's voice sounds like he's caught trying not to crack up. Even if he should probably be a bit scandalized, he's really not.

Why would he be, when he'd been thinking the same thing? ]

I don't think you're going to have much luck finishing this prayer if you start it like that.

[ She'd heard the aggravated exclamation and come to investigate, but stops short at the sight of Lili and the spilled garbage all over. Her expression twitches, looking torn between wrinkling her nose at the smell and laughing at the expression currently on the other shinki's face. ]

Oh, dear. This is a good deal messier than the prayer indicated, isn't it? Do you need some help?
