TEST DRIVE # 21

Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.

Weird Wands

Kids love the new "magic wand" souvenirs from the Wizard's Wonderland cinema & party venue! They sparkle, they swish, they look just like real magic wizard's wands... actually, are these just souvenirs? They seem to be doing real magic! Unappetizing school lunches are turning into delicious cakes, a pack of stray dogs ate everybody's homework, and other elementary-school wishes are coming true all over the place. Be the mean grown-up and confiscate some wands, or just join in the fun.

Xistential cris-X

What is the meaning of life, anyway? That's what this year's crop of incoming freshmen at Tokyo University really want to know. Careful crossing the campus: tormented sighs, heavy philosophy tomes, theological questions and earnest discussions abound. Help these kids lighten up and enjoy their college experience! Or take advantage and start preaching. With all this existential angst around, you could definitely score some new followers.

Yip Yap

The dogs in a certain neighborhood go crazy every time the clock strikes one A.M. and the poor residents haven't had a good night's sleep in weeks. What's got those pooches so peeved? Hunt down the ayakashi prowling their streets, and let those hard-working guard dogs and their sleepy owners go back to getting some Z's.

Zippy Zinc Oxide

There is a rash of incidents going around, literally. A large number of babies are suffering from yeast infection diaper rash, and the distress level of the parents is hitting the roof. All that distress might be attractive to ayakashi too, so stock up on zinc oxide, change lots of diapers, soothe the babies, and restore peace to the land.

Apartment Apples

A follower has entered an interior decoration contest to deck out an apartment in a complete and total apple theme. And they are dead set determined to win this thing. Everything from an apple teapot to apple socks to act as props in the dresser, your follower needs to completely furnish this place. Even though it's just a 1DK, it's sure starting to feel like a huge task to buy enough to decorate it. Lend a hand with the shopping and decorating, and try to hold back on shooting down your follower's design dreams?

Weird Wands

[He'd seen the terrors that these sticks could cause, strange things that they are. He'd managed to collect a few of them to keep them from being used for... anything, good or bad. But he always has been a curious git, so when he goes to put them away for safe keeping, he takes one and just looks at it. What is it about this little thing that can cause such... magic to happen? He doesn't believe in such things, but seeing it right in front of him, even with eyesight as terrible as his is, it's hard to dispute or explain.]

[He flicks the wand a few times, trying to figure it out, trying to learn its secrets. The first two times, nothing happens. But the third is always the charm, and something sparkly, like glitter, fires itself off of the end - the end he's holding - and hits his shirt. Now he's wearing a woman's bra.]

Oh.

Zippy Zinc Oxide

[Oh, he is not who you want to be around children, trying to soothe their woes. Yet somehow, he'd found himself with this one child, doing just that. She's very fussy, and he doesn't blame her one bit for her agony, but he's just no good with the youth of the world. What he is good at, however, is seeing that she's in pain and knowing the cause and knowing that her pain might bring something far worse down on them both.]

[To his side, there is a bottle of ointment, but it's near empty. He has removed her diaper and smoothed what he can on her redness, and rather than keep her in something that will continuously chafe against her skin and irritate the marks, he wraps her in a towel and will deal with the mess later if she feels the need to relieve herself. Much to his surprise, it seems to have worked. He now has a whimpering child, no longer a screaming one.]

[He grins and cradles her to him.]

There we are, little one. That's better, isn't it?

[Taking care of the little ones, admittedly, was not something he'd expected to be doing. Or really wanted to do but here he is as well, following the cries and summons for help with a small pack of supplies hanging off his shoulder.

That's about when Othello stumbles on the other shiki and his whimpering 'friend.' He stops, just a little ways away, to observe and- oh, that wasn't a bad idea actually. Why hadn't he thought of something along those lines? He slips up to the white-haired mans side and plucks another bottle from his pack, setting it beside the almost empty one.]

That's a great idea, must breathe a lot better than those nappies they're puttin' on them.

[He's not for or against the idea of helping with a baby, but he knows he's definitely not the first pick for these kids.]

It's a rash, isn't it? Not sure about the people in charge here, but I'd sooner have that out in the open and soothed rather than kept covered and warm if it'd been on my hide.

[Even babies could be good judges of character, and this one seemed content enough with Undertaker's care. That was most important.]

Oh yes, so would I. I don't think most parents think about that though, I took care of a few whose parents stuck them right back in those nappies after. I tried to warn them- ha, maybe they just enjoy our company.

[If babies are good judges of character, this one must have been born wrong, but at least she's quieting down.] Hard to say if this one was the first child or later. Most new parents need to learn their parenting skills, but that's normal. Long as we help them soothe those pains and take it easy on those lungs. My goodness!

[Oh, his poor ears.]

[Othello might disagree. And so might her parents. They might be more vocal about their disagreement though. Very vocal.]

Could be a first. Really, they ought to have classes on caring for little ones. [Doesn't help that some of them still seem like children themselves.]

Where do they get all that air to scream with, you have to wonder. [One also has to wonder why Othello seems to be enjoying this.]

[Emizel knew not to take those wands lightly. Albeit they were the stereotypical forms of magic (and mostly harmless), but that does appear to be exactly what they were. He could tell just by looking at them.]

[He had been close to warn Undertaker not to play with them but he was just seconds too late. The demon stared wide eyed at the result it had... Unexpecting, but no comment on the materialized bra.]

You probably did deserve that.

[Leave it to him to try something that he had no business messing with, but all ended better than it could have.]

[The scars down his arms and chest didn't bother him anymore, now that he'd been used to them again for some time, and he ignored them as he reached up to pick at the strap over one shoulder, grinning widely as always.]

Suppose I did. This thing has a bit of a sense of humor. Maybe I'll keep it and see what else it does.

I don't think it has that many charges left. You might wanna do something to bring your clothes back first.

[Before it permanently stays that way. Besides, Emizel was not sure how he felt about those things being around his temple.]

[Emizel would trust him to try this on himself again? Okay. Sure, why not? It could only get worse from here, right?]

Better that than walking around in women's undergarments. People might think me strange.

[So again, he tried - and failed - to change his bra back into his shirt. The sparkles didn't come, the magic stayed idle; he tried again and again and was finally somewhat successful on his fourth attempt. Now he stood donning a rather dapper black vest with nothing underneath. Not quite what he had been in, but a little more appropriate.]

Hmmm. Might could do with a bit of white under this, long sleeves. I don't think I'm going to get that though.

[He doesn't know how to the wands any better. Besides Undertaker got himself into that mess, he can get himself out. In theory, anyway.]

It's...better. [Can't blame the demon for being a little curious if Undertaker could get his clothes back. Has to wonder how the bra came up in the first place. Generally magic requires some subconscious thought into what you're trying to create. On second thought, maybe Emizel's better off knowing what he was thinking at the time...]

[Or he could just stick around in this vest and not care. He's debating it, to be sure. It's quite handsome, though it'd probably look better on someone else.] Yes indeed, it is. I think I might leave it like this for now before I find myself in something I might not like.

[He wore a dress once in a play and liked it don't judge him.]

[That is true. He could get stuck with something even less...desirable.]

Hmm..

Still, how did kids get sticks like those anyway? Somethin's weird going on...

[Perhaps someone from the Far Shore should be looking into that. ...Maybe.]
