TEST DRIVE # 21

Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.

Weird Wands

Kids love the new "magic wand" souvenirs from the Wizard's Wonderland cinema & party venue! They sparkle, they swish, they look just like real magic wizard's wands... actually, are these just souvenirs? They seem to be doing real magic! Unappetizing school lunches are turning into delicious cakes, a pack of stray dogs ate everybody's homework, and other elementary-school wishes are coming true all over the place. Be the mean grown-up and confiscate some wands, or just join in the fun.

Xistential cris-X

What is the meaning of life, anyway? That's what this year's crop of incoming freshmen at Tokyo University really want to know. Careful crossing the campus: tormented sighs, heavy philosophy tomes, theological questions and earnest discussions abound. Help these kids lighten up and enjoy their college experience! Or take advantage and start preaching. With all this existential angst around, you could definitely score some new followers.

Yip Yap

The dogs in a certain neighborhood go crazy every time the clock strikes one A.M. and the poor residents haven't had a good night's sleep in weeks. What's got those pooches so peeved? Hunt down the ayakashi prowling their streets, and let those hard-working guard dogs and their sleepy owners go back to getting some Z's.

Zippy Zinc Oxide

There is a rash of incidents going around, literally. A large number of babies are suffering from yeast infection diaper rash, and the distress level of the parents is hitting the roof. All that distress might be attractive to ayakashi too, so stock up on zinc oxide, change lots of diapers, soothe the babies, and restore peace to the land.

Apartment Apples

A follower has entered an interior decoration contest to deck out an apartment in a complete and total apple theme. And they are dead set determined to win this thing. Everything from an apple teapot to apple socks to act as props in the dresser, your follower needs to completely furnish this place. Even though it's just a 1DK, it's sure starting to feel like a huge task to buy enough to decorate it. Lend a hand with the shopping and decorating, and try to hold back on shooting down your follower's design dreams?

[Shun is perhaps not the best person for anyone to have asked to try and solve the problem of overly deep and existential talk, and accordingly, he's mostly just keeping watch on the proceedings to make sure nobody crushes themselves too much under the weight of whatever it is they're talking about. He's just about to move areas when he comes across Dean's setting up, and he looks from the various watery weapons to the book-bashing philosophers he just left with a somewhat dry stare.]

I'm pretty sure that's going to piss them off more than it'll help. [Not that Shun can entirely blame them, and it's probably still better than wallowing in the futility of existence, but still.]

[Dean pauses and he's glancing up at Shun. A grin tugging at his lips before he shrugs.]

It's not for right now. I'm not that much of a jackass that I'd ruin people's textbooks. Those things are way too expensive for that. At least I assume that they are anyway...

Point is, eventually they're going to need a break before they snap and become sobbing blubbering messes. That's where these come in. Too much stress and too much pressure is enough mess up these kids royal.

So I'm giving 'em a distraction. If they decide to take it that is.

They're not that bad here. [Though judging from this guy's accent, Shun would guess he's American, and he's only heard the internet equivalent of horrified whispers about how much they cost there.

Shun doesn't seem entirely convinced of the point about stress and pressure, though eventually he crosses his arms and sighs slightly as if he supposes there might be some truth to it. Not everyone is as resilient as him and the comrades he left behind, after all.] If you're going to do something like that, I'd take it up with the older students. University here isn't that hard once you're in, and there'd be a good number who'd want the new students to stop making it worse on themselves than it needs to be.

Huh, well how about that. [But the hunter shrugs.] Still a dick move and one I'm not gonna make.

[Sure they're kids as far as Dean's concerned but there's so much tension and anxiety thrumming in the air around here that it's worrying.]

That's not such a bad idea. You'd think if it was something they'd wanted to do or help with they'd take a bit of initiative.

[Shun just shrugs slightly at that. It's not something he'd particularly argue for or against himself, so he's not going to make a point of how they should be handling the textbook issue.

The remark on initiative just makes Shun raise a brow, though.] Chances are they think it's just leftover stress from entrance exams. Studying here is easy, but getting in is hell. So they think it'll just wear off with time, or they think it's rude to make a point of it. But if you get some of them into it, others will follow. It's that simple.

Technically that's true I'm guessing but the only way to get rid of tension and stress like this is to do something fun that lets you release it. Party and have a good time. It's never rude to have a good time.

[He's pointing out as if he's passing on some sagely wisdom. Dean knows what he's talking about well to a degree. He's never been a fancy college student or whatever - never had the inclination, that was Sam's thing not his but he knows all about stress.

Now that he's done setting everything up, he's running his hands over his jeans, dusting them off. Though Shun has a point. He should go interact with some of the older students. Summoning up his best smile that's precisely what he's going to go do.]

Depends what your idea of a "good time" is. [Just ask those people in the thin-walled apartment block he and Hitsugaya had to deal with recently. Also, the way Shun puts those two words is in the tone of someone generally not familiar with the concept of what people consider a good time.

Considering Dean looks like he's preparing himself to go and start socialising, Shun points out one of the nearby buildings.] There's a freerunning circle meeting around behind that building. Or probably on it by now. If you're looking for energetic people to get them into this, that'd be a good place to start.

True but I was going to a more public friendly, hopefully won't lead to anything too over the top kind of good time. I don't think a wild party and one hella bad hang over after is good impressing for me to make.

[He's arching a brow.] You mean like that parkour stuff with the tricks? [Now that could be an interesting combination and it could make the game that much more interesting.]

Probably not. And it wouldn't be a good one for them either. [Not that a lot of university students exactly care, but if they're trying to integrate, then they might as well start off lower-key than that.

At the question, Shun nods.] Exactly. They shouldn't be too hard to get interested if they can apply their skills to it. People like to show off to their underclassmen.

Yeah, didn't think so. That's more of a I'm done with finals in my last year let's celebrate kind of thing. [Not that Dean has been there or done that - it's purely just logical.

He rubs at his chin considering.] Don't see why not. Might make it more challenging and fun all way the 'round matter of fact. Thanks. That's a good idea.

I'll take your word for it. [Even if Shun was old enough to have graduated university, people being loud and drunk isn't exactly something he enjoys being part of. Still, he can't deny some people are interested even if he isn't himself.

With a slight incline of his head, Shun glances back.] I don't do that well with people, so convincing them is all on you. Unless you need anything else, I'm going to see if there's any of them spouting this in other parts of the university.

Well it's not like I'm some authority or anything. [You'd be better off asking the guy about guns and monsters. Everything he knows about college has been movies and Sam's stories.

Dean dealing with people is a grab bag sometimes good sometimes bad.] I'll manage I'm sure. Can't think of anything else I'd need your help for. Good luck with whatever you're going to do.

Clearly. [Not on universities around here, anyway, but then, all Shun really has is the word of other people and common knowledge.

There's a slight shrug at the mention of good luck, and Shun starts to head off with that.] If I find any others, I'll herd them this way, then.

[The kid is a little rude, but Dean gets it. He's assuming he does anyway. He's been a teenager at any rate.]

That'd be great. Thanks for the help.

[And just like that he's turning heading off toward that building Shun'd pointed out a bit before. He's sure if he pitches it right. As a game, a challenge then he'll get some of them into it and then seeing some of the other students would gather more and more. It'l be fine.]
