TEST DRIVE # 21



Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.



Weird Wands

Kids love the new "magic wand" souvenirs from the Wizard's Wonderland cinema & party venue! They sparkle, they swish, they look just like real magic wizard's wands... actually, are these just souvenirs? They seem to be doing real magic! Unappetizing school lunches are turning into delicious cakes, a pack of stray dogs ate everybody's homework, and other elementary-school wishes are coming true all over the place. Be the mean grown-up and confiscate some wands, or just join in the fun.

Xistential cris-X

What is the meaning of life, anyway? That's what this year's crop of incoming freshmen at Tokyo University really want to know. Careful crossing the campus: tormented sighs, heavy philosophy tomes, theological questions and earnest discussions abound. Help these kids lighten up and enjoy their college experience! Or take advantage and start preaching. With all this existential angst around, you could definitely score some new followers.

Yip Yap

The dogs in a certain neighborhood go crazy every time the clock strikes one A.M. and the poor residents haven't had a good night's sleep in weeks. What's got those pooches so peeved? Hunt down the ayakashi prowling their streets, and let those hard-working guard dogs and their sleepy owners go back to getting some Z's.

Zippy Zinc Oxide

There is a rash of incidents going around, literally. A large number of babies are suffering from yeast infection diaper rash, and the distress level of the parents is hitting the roof. All that distress might be attractive to ayakashi too, so stock up on zinc oxide, change lots of diapers, soothe the babies, and restore peace to the land.

Apartment Apples

A follower has entered an interior decoration contest to deck out an apartment in a complete and total apple theme. And they are dead set determined to win this thing. Everything from an apple teapot to apple socks to act as props in the dresser, your follower needs to completely furnish this place. Even though it's just a 1DK, it's sure starting to feel like a huge task to buy enough to decorate it. Lend a hand with the shopping and decorating, and try to hold back on shooting down your follower's design dreams?

[ He doesn’t know why but it feels odd to have someone apologize to him. Nicolas thinks the shinki is a little too chatty but it’s not something he minds since he can still read his lips. He even answers with a shrug of his shoulder as his eyes fall to an apple-shaped mug. He looks at it for a moment then lifts his hands to crudely sign - he’s still pretty new at this whole sign language thing - if he thinks he can drink it. ]

[riveres]

[At first Oscar just assumed that that he was just a very quiet person, until he sees the signing and pieces click together in his mind. All the vocal languages he knows, he never bothered learning sign. Oscar feels like needs to catch up. He does get the gist of what Nicolas is saying.]

Well, the owner isn't here.

[Unless he lives in the apartment, then he has no business telling Nicolas what he can or cannot drink out of.]

[batteredog]

[ It's enough of an answer to have him pick up the mug, but he doesn't immediately drink from it instead he looks up at Oscar, and offers him first dibs and at 5'1, he has to crane his neck farther than he'd like at this close proximity. ]

[riveres]

[Oscar shakes his head no and lets Nicolas drink from the cup. After this he doesn't want to look at an apple for a while.]

Mind if I know your name.

[batteredog]

[ With his offer denied, Nico shrugs and downs the juice in one gulp before wiping his mouth with the back of his sleeve. Fortunately, he's facing Oscar when he asks for his name so he's able to read his lips, not that he likes what he catches. He doesn't really liking talking aloud because of the stares but he figures he has to answer him. It's an order, right? When he opens his mouth to speak, he emits a broken croak before the sound of words begin to emerge as he mimics the movement of speech feeling only it's vibrations as the sound knots in his throat before spilling out. ]

[riveres]

[Oscar wouldn't call it an order, from what Oscar assumes he is either a fellow Shinki or a follower. (Either way, he has no place to be barking orders to him, must respect the ranks.)

At the sound of Nicholas' voice, Oscar feels bad for asking him to speak and makes a note to try and study sign language. If for no one else's sake, then Nicolas'.]

Oscar Riviere. I'm sorry for making you speak.

[batteredog]

[ He doesn't know why but he feels compelled to do what others tell him. Slaves follow orders, it's instictive. Not that he knows he's a slave. ]

[ He mimics his lip movement and manages a broken version of his name with intonation all in the wrong place. ]

[riveres]

[Oscar nods his head, inwardly flinching at his name being spoken by a voice that isn't used often.] Yes, like that. But you don't have to say it.

[batteredog]

[ If he doesn't need to speak then he won't. It's not that it hurts him too but he's always acutely aware that he's doing something wrong by the reaction he gets. So he nods firmly, understanding. Then points to the room and looks back at him with a questioning gaze as if asking 'What now?' ]

[riveres]

[Well, he does have a question or two for Nicholas...] Is this your apartment?

[batteredog]

[ He shakes his head - No. ]

[riveres]

[The petty and overly fussy with aesthetics part of Oscar is relieved a bit, the boy doesn't have horrible taste.]

Are you a Shinki? Like me?

[He pulls up the left sleeve of his shirt to show him his mark, characters on wrist, right on his pulse point.]

[batteredog]

[ He nods his head while making a low-sound. ]

Mmm-hmm.

[riveres]

Oh, so you you are. You know, I assumed you weren't because you were-

[...Maybe it's inappropriate to mention the fact Nicolas is so young.]

Never.

[batteredog]

[ He shrugs. He doesn't have his memories but he has a sense that it's normal. Where he comes from, some babies don't make it past their mother's womb before they're murdered. So, he did fairly well, at least that's the feeling he gets. People die. That's life.

He gestures to the room once more before asking: ]

D O n E?

[ He looks around at the apartment filled with apple decorations. What more did they have to do? He doesn't know. ]

[riveres]

[Wow, that's depressing even for him. Don't tell him that, Nicholas. Oscar shrugs, still reminding himself to learn some sign language.]

I think we are here. Maybe we were here to inspect, I hear there's a dog problem in the streets. Maybe we can solve that.

[batteredog]

[ Nicolas is used to following orders disguised as suggestions so he simply nods, his fingers moving over his sheathed Katana to check that everything was okay for use. Nico... don't kill the dogs! ]
