Test Drive #21

TEST DRIVE # 21

Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.

Weird Wands

Kids love the new "magic wand" souvenirs from the Wizard's Wonderland cinema & party venue! They sparkle, they swish, they look just like real magic wizard's wands... actually, are these just souvenirs? They seem to be doing real magic! Unappetizing school lunches are turning into delicious cakes, a pack of stray dogs ate everybody's homework, and other elementary-school wishes are coming true all over the place. Be the mean grown-up and confiscate some wands, or just join in the fun.

Xistential cris-X

What is the meaning of life, anyway? That's what this year's crop of incoming freshmen at Tokyo University really want to know. Careful crossing the campus: tormented sighs, heavy philosophy tomes, theological questions and earnest discussions abound. Help these kids lighten up and enjoy their college experience! Or take advantage and start preaching. With all this existential angst around, you could definitely score some new followers.

Yip Yap

The dogs in a certain neighborhood go crazy every time the clock strikes one A.M. and the poor residents haven't had a good night's sleep in weeks. What's got those pooches so peeved? Hunt down the ayakashi prowling their streets, and let those hard-working guard dogs and their sleepy owners go back to getting some Z's.

Zippy Zinc Oxide

There is a rash of incidents going around, literally. A large number of babies are suffering from yeast infection diaper rash, and the distress level of the parents is hitting the roof. All that distress might be attractive to ayakashi too, so stock up on zinc oxide, change lots of diapers, soothe the babies, and restore peace to the land.

Apartment Apples

A follower has entered an interior decoration contest to deck out an apartment in a complete and total apple theme. And they are dead set determined to win this thing. Everything from an apple teapot to apple socks to act as props in the dresser, your follower needs to completely furnish this place. Even though it's just a 1DK, it's sure starting to feel like a huge task to buy enough to decorate it. Lend a hand with the shopping and decorating, and try to hold back on shooting down your follower's design dreams?

If you're uncertain about anything, feel free to check out the Premise, Rules, and FAQ posts. And don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have on the FAQ!

Have fun!

Apples

[ ...wait, her? He's talking to her?

Saint-Germain blinks, slowly. She debates ignoring the question. But the answer comes too immediately to mind for that. ]

Original sin.

An interesting choice!

[Not at all what he would have said, but an interesting choice nevertheless.]

Could one decorate one's apartments with that as the theme...?

[He's mostly talking to himself, it seems, but then he pauses a second too long, like he's waiting for someone to answer and it's not happening. He tries to cover by coughing like that's what he meant to do all along and then starts to speak again.]

I ask because simply using "apples" as a theme just seems...maybe "pedestrian" is the word for it.

And what qualifies you to dictate how they interpret the theme?

[ Saint-Germain is staring at this pillow with an apple cross-stitched on it. She has just picked it up. To have something to stare at. ]

Don't look down on pedestrians.

[ Her fingers are sinking rather deeply into this pillow. ]

[He only looks somewhat chastened. He knows what he's been asked to do and he knows going above and beyond what's been asked isn't going to go over well, but that doesn't mean he can stop being disappointed.]

I was a king, after all, so when I'm called upon to decide how to decorate someone's living quarters, I can only think of it as a king would think. It's a fault of mine, I know, made worse by being given a theme that I could do so much with if only I was allowed...

A king...

[ That doesn't sit well with Saint-Germain. She looks away, wandering around the apartment. ]

So you focus on yourself, not your follower.

[He hums for a second, thinking that one over.]

I wouldn't go so far as to say that. I'm thinking about what they want, of course, it's only that what they want and what I want aren't completely the same. I don't think I could do my best if I were to just buy up a lot of things with apples on them, even if that's what I was asked to do.

[It sounds like he's pretty set on his own idea, no matter what he's actually saying.]

It's strange to think that a god would be expected to be more subservient than a king.
