TEST DRIVE # 21

Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.

Weird Wands

Kids love the new "magic wand" souvenirs from the Wizard's Wonderland cinema & party venue! They sparkle, they swish, they look just like real magic wizard's wands... actually, are these just souvenirs? They seem to be doing real magic! Unappetizing school lunches are turning into delicious cakes, a pack of stray dogs ate everybody's homework, and other elementary-school wishes are coming true all over the place. Be the mean grown-up and confiscate some wands, or just join in the fun.

Xistential cris-X

What is the meaning of life, anyway? That's what this year's crop of incoming freshmen at Tokyo University really want to know. Careful crossing the campus: tormented sighs, heavy philosophy tomes, theological questions and earnest discussions abound. Help these kids lighten up and enjoy their college experience! Or take advantage and start preaching. With all this existential angst around, you could definitely score some new followers.

Yip Yap

The dogs in a certain neighborhood go crazy every time the clock strikes one A.M. and the poor residents haven't had a good night's sleep in weeks. What's got those pooches so peeved? Hunt down the ayakashi prowling their streets, and let those hard-working guard dogs and their sleepy owners go back to getting some Z's.

Zippy Zinc Oxide

There is a rash of incidents going around, literally. A large number of babies are suffering from yeast infection diaper rash, and the distress level of the parents is hitting the roof. All that distress might be attractive to ayakashi too, so stock up on zinc oxide, change lots of diapers, soothe the babies, and restore peace to the land.

Apartment Apples

A follower has entered an interior decoration contest to deck out an apartment in a complete and total apple theme. And they are dead set determined to win this thing. Everything from an apple teapot to apple socks to act as props in the dresser, your follower needs to completely furnish this place. Even though it's just a 1DK, it's sure starting to feel like a huge task to buy enough to decorate it. Lend a hand with the shopping and decorating, and try to hold back on shooting down your follower's design dreams?

[Nari, on the other hand, is not shy about being the mean adult. He's already confiscated quite a few wands, taking a look at the crying children.]

These are not toys. Magic is just a lazy way out of life, so you are not getting these back. [Just to make a point, he sets them on fire. Which... just ends with the fire alarm ringing and the sprinklers coming on.

Now they have wet, crying kids. Time to turn this around! Nari starts laughing, shaking his head.]

Look! I made it rain inside!

Ah--!

[ Mira sighs and turns to Nari, and... she definitely does not look happy all wet. ]

Maybe you should've done that outside...

The effect wouldn't have been the same. And look~! Some of the kids are liking it.

[How often does it rain inside?]

I can dry you off when we get outside.

I guess...

[ She looks pretty unsure. Also, she's shivering a bit. ]

D-drying off would be good.

[With a tilt of his head, he motions for Mira to follow him outside.]

It's a little chilly, but hey, at least it ain't Washington this time of year.

[ And follow she does. ]

Honestly... I wouldn't mind that. [ She laughs a little. ] But it's nice here, isn't it?

What? With the random warm days, then freezing, super dry, or super wet? Japan's predictable. It's a nice break, to be honest. [When they say it's gonna rain, it usually does.] The novelty wears off after a while.

The rain.

[ Her voice goes a little quiet. ]

I miss the rain.

...... I can't make rain rain, only storms. But my temple... it's a lot like the coast back there.

[He won't say home. It's not home anymore, not since he's realized he's died back there.]

... Really? You know... it's been a while since I came here, but I haven't visited your temple yet.

It's not that impressive. Just a beach, some woods, and a paddock for a horse. There's a lot of cats, and since it's right by the park, a lot of spirit animals.

Are you kidding? You know that's the sort of things I love.

Yeah, but it's like a beach along the Sound. Not the kind of place you can just take your shoes off and feel the sand. Wouldn't you rather have something closer to Ocean Shores to go hang out at?

[He's a little embarrassed to have his bff (are they still bff's?) visiting his temple.]

[ She watches him for a while, frowning. ]

... If you don't want me to visit, you can say so. I don't want to make things... awkward.

I'm not saying that... I just...... It's not that impressive. It's just plain.

I'd still love to see it.

...... fine. When my shinki isn't there.
