TEST DRIVE # 19

Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.

Marriage Mystery

A brand-new wedding chapel in an upscale Tokyo neighborhood has a problem: both brides and grooms keep getting stood up at the altar! Help find one of the fleeing spouses, and figure out if it's just wedding jitters or whether there's an ayakashi scaring off would-be newlyweds.

Nervous Neighbors

This quiet suburb has been rocked by the arrival of a new family... or is it a rock band? They've painted their house purple with blue LEDs under the eaves, they loudly practice electric guitar and trumpet late into the night, and they put their garbage and recycling out on the wrong days. And now, they've invited the whole neighborhood to a barbecue. One way or another, this is going to be a party to remember.

Outrageous Owls

Something's gotten into the owls at Kamakura beach. Not only are they showing up during the day, but they're fighting off the seagulls and dive-bombing surprised beachgoers to steal their bentos... and are they a little bigger than usual, too? Could some of these angry owls be angry spirits instead? Oh no! Duck!

Putrid Piles

Performance art or gross prank? That's the question in Ginza this week, where giant heaps of household garbage are appearing on the sidewalks and even in the street overnight. For some reason, no one's been able to catch a glimpse of the prankster. Maybe what they need is a little divine assistance, or at least some help power-washing the sidewalk before the upscale shoppers arrive.

Quilt Quandary

A fiber art exhibit at the Tokyo Art Museum is having some very strange problems. At first the labels just seemed to be out of order, but now it seems like the dozens of gorgeously sewed antique quilts in the exhibit have a mind of their own. They fall off the walls, they drape over display cases and swaddle priceless statues, and sometimes they even tangle up visitors or security guards. The museum needs someone to deal with whatever's gotten into their quilts in a hurry, but be careful and don't break anything!

Marriage Mystery
[Something about this whole thing bugs him. It's fine to get nervous, but fleeing brides or grooms? After they made the decision to go ahead with the wedding... Obviously, he's focused on the job as always. Because it's a job and... he dislike the idea of going back on a commitment.

He stand near the exit, watching the ceremony and looking around for anything out of the ordinary. So far, so good... until the groom suddenly turns and try to run! Just when he's about to run past Yamanbagiri, the shinki reaches out and grab him by the arm. The groom stumbles, and cry out in surprise.
]

Wha—!

I don't know about you, but if you're having second thoughts, just talk to her.

[He keeps his grip firm. Maybe a little too firm... He's going to start pulling the groom back inside, regardless of his flailing.]

Let me go!

Putrid Piles
[Just because he doesn't mind getting his cloak dirty, it doesn't necessarily mean this sort of thing. But he's still going to... do something about this?]

We need a cart or something...

[He turns to the nearest person. A fellow helper, a random passerby? Whichever, he get their attention (and praying they notice him).]

Do you think we can borrow a cart for all of these?

( She'd left Yamanbagiri to take care of the groom while she'd done her best to reason with the bride. It had taken some work on her part but she'd managed to convince the bride to see things through... or at least, talk to the groom about her own jitters. Sakura feels good about things on her side and is going to check on Yamanbagiri when she sees him dragging the groom back in, kicking and screaming. )

Yamanbagiri! ( She rushes over, placing a hand on his gently Yamanbagiri's grip, ) L-let him go, please.

( She gives his hand a small squeeze, though. Don't do it just yet. )

He isn't going to runaway.

( There's an implied, "isn't that right?" at the end. If the groom wants to be free, he needs to calm down. And clearly, if Yamanbagiri's caught him once, he can do it again. The groom swallows nervously and agrees. Y-yeah, he isn't going to run away...! )

[He feels his heart jump at hearing Sakura's voice. But on the other hand,
he did get the groom back.

Yamanbagiri turn his gaze from Sakura to the groom, before he nods and let go of his grip. The groom let out a sigh in relief, but he's still looking nervous.
]

Just make sure you talk to her. She deserves it the most.

[]He says, while examining the groom carefully. Is there a hint of what's going on right now, like an ayakashi...]

Yes... In fact, I-I think there's something she wants to talk to you about, too.

( She's trying to give the groom a gentle nudge in the right direction versus Yamanbagiri's more aggressive method. As she speaks, the bride herself even comes out shyly and motions for the groom to come over. They both look nervous but maybe that helps them leave together to talk in another room.

Sakura let's our a sigh of relief, shoulders relaxing,
)

We should probably wait to make sure they d-don't run... But I hope everything works out.

( Glancing at Yamanbagiri, )

I-is something wrong?

[His eyes were on the couple, until he looks to Sakura at hearing her words.]

... I'm trying to look for anything suspicious on him. Like an ayakashi or a lead.

[He crosses his arms, thinking.]

If it's just one couple, I'd think they're nervous. But they're not the first to run away from this church's ceremony.

[Yamanbagiri looks back at where the bride and groom went to, staring at the door before he turn his gaze back towards the altar. Hm... seems normal so far?]

( She nods because her thoughts are the same. If it was just one or two couples, she wouldn't think anything of it but there have been several incidents already. )

It is strange... I don't sense anything but whatever it was, it m-must be here or nearby if it was just working, right?

( She'll help looking. Is there anything in the room that was also in the bride's room? )

It... might not be an ayakashi. ( Wishful thinking? Are they ready to take one down if they encounter one?. ) It could be s-some other anomaly... A cursed charm or something.

A cursed charm? I doubt a church would carry one...

[But it's a worthy thought. He thought about it for a moment. How or why would a church have such an item? If it's recent...]

Let's say it is a cursed charm or object. Do you think someone left something here and the church keeps it?

I-It could have been an accident...

( It appears to be a common enough problem in this world, )

Maybe... close to the altar? That's where the groom was standing, wasn't there?

( There doesn't appear to be much up there besides a bible and a bunch of flowers, though... Flowers which are absolutely everywhere in the church, mind you. )

[Walking over towards the altar, he looks at it. What nice flowers... In any other situation, he'd like to admire them.]

This book looks well used.

[How quaint. He looks back at the flowers. Who knows, maybe there's something hiding between the stems?]

If I recall... they're used for the marriage ceremonies because it's one of the holy books in this world... That's probably why, even if so many people have run away...

( There doesn't appear to be anything in them-- at least, nothing obvious-- but getting too close will give Yamanbagiri a sense of strong anxiety. Sakura also comes over to investigate next to him and thankfully, she has a naturally calming presence that should help dispel most of what he's feeling. )

The same flowers were in the bride's room... she even had a bouquet. And the groom... didn't he have a flower pinned to his coat too...?

( And within the flowers, something rustles-- a small moth ayakashi. )
