TEST DRIVE # 19

Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.

Marriage Mystery

A brand-new wedding chapel in an upscale Tokyo neighborhood has a problem: both brides and grooms keep getting stood up at the altar! Help find one of the fleeing spouses, and figure out if it's just wedding jitters or whether there's an ayakashi scaring off would-be newlyweds.

Nervous Neighbors

This quiet suburb has been rocked by the arrival of a new family... or is it a rock band? They've painted their house purple with blue LEDs under the eaves, they loudly practice electric guitar and trumpet late into the night, and they put their garbage and recycling out on the wrong days. And now, they've invited the whole neighborhood to a barbecue. One way or another, this is going to be a party to remember.

Outrageous Owls

Something's gotten into the owls at Kamakura beach. Not only are they showing up during the day, but they're fighting off the seagulls and dive-bombing surprised beachgoers to steal their bentos... and are they a little bigger than usual, too? Could some of these angry owls be angry spirits instead? Oh no! Duck!

Putrid Piles

Performance art or gross prank? That's the question in Ginza this week, where giant heaps of household garbage are appearing on the sidewalks and even in the street overnight. For some reason, no one's been able to catch a glimpse of the prankster. Maybe what they need is a little divine assistance, or at least some help power-washing the sidewalk before the upscale shoppers arrive.

Quilt Quandary

A fiber art exhibit at the Tokyo Art Museum is having some very strange problems. At first the labels just seemed to be out of order, but now it seems like the dozens of gorgeously sewed antique quilts in the exhibit have a mind of their own. They fall off the walls, they drape over display cases and swaddle priceless statues, and sometimes they even tangle up visitors or security guards. The museum needs someone to deal with whatever's gotten into their quilts in a hurry, but be careful and don't break anything!

If you're uncertain about anything, feel free to check out the Premise, Rules, and FAQ posts. And don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have on the FAQ!

You have a dragon?

[Archer does the same, and starts picking up owl corpses. It's going to take some time so they can as well kill some time with idle chit-chat.]

A small dragon, yes.

[An excellent traveling companion, but not precisely the "laying the countryside to waste" type, which is for the best: the countryside is laid to waste sufficiently without any more help.

Here, he's mostly been judging Hakkai's life choices and eating his cooking, which is the sort of vacation he probably needs from their journey. He's put on at least three hundred grams with regular food and less hard traveling.]

He's been a companion of mine for years now.

[It does sound nice, even the dragon part. Given what this place has in stock Archer just assumes it's possible.]

Has he been here with you since the beginning? If you don't mind me asking.
reformedsinner: (elementary my dear dragon)

[personal profile] reformedsinner 2017-08-16 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
No. It wasn't until a few months after my own arrival that he found his way here.

[And he's neither a god nor a shinki, which is a little bit strange. On the other hand, Hakkai would definitely object if someone else tried to name Jeep, and he's not sure how a dragon could wield a shinki.

A wolf had, admittedly, managed the trick.]
boneofsword: (Impressive)

[Eh, if a wolf managed to summon a Servant in one of Fate instances then why can't it wield a shinki?]

Interesting. So it's not only spirits that get pulled here.
reformedsinner: (from the wreckage)

[personal profile] reformedsinner 2017-08-18 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
It is interesting, isn't it? I know of a few people who've had items they recognize appear, too.

[He spreads his hands in a shrug, smiles, and bends to scoop up the corpse of another owl.]

But I'm afraid that there's still no explanation.

[personal profile] boneofsword 2017-08-18 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
[There's still a half of beach full of carcasses left, though.]

Were those only gods, or were there also shinki? [that's most important piece of information, after all.]
reformedsinner: (elementary my dear dragon)

[personal profile] reformedsinner 2017-08-18 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
With shinki, of course, it's much harder to guess if it's a familiar creature or object.

But shinki have had strange things appear near them, from time to time.

[He'd been a shinki, and hadn't recognized Jeep, when the dragon first appeared, after all.

It's not something he's going to say to another new shinki, though. If something does reappear, it's better that he continue to wonder than that he begin to think too hard about what he might have forgotten.]
boneofsword: (my bad)

[personal profile] boneofsword 2017-08-18 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[Archer shrugs as he dumps another dead owl into the trash bag. He can guess where it's going.]

I don't think that my memories were of any importance anyway.
reformedsinner: (foundling)

[personal profile] reformedsinner 2017-08-18 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hakkai glances away, hiding a momentary bitterness in his smile, and shrugs.]

That's a mindset that will serve you well as a shinki.

[personal profile] boneofsword 2017-08-18 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Better than the alternative.
reformedsinner: (slasher smile)

[personal profile] reformedsinner 2017-08-19 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that's true.

[Since turning into an ayakashi often offends....

He chuckles and turns his attention back to collecting owls.]
