TEST DRIVE # 19



Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.



Marriage Mystery

A brand-new wedding chapel in an upscale Tokyo neighborhood has a problem: both brides and grooms keep getting stood up at the altar! Help find one of the fleeing spouses, and figure out if it's just wedding jitters or whether there's an ayakashi scaring off would-be newlyweds.

Nervous Neighbors

This quiet suburb has been rocked by the arrival of a new family... or is it a rock band? They've painted their house purple with blue LEDs under the eaves, they loudly practice electric guitar and trumpet late into the night, and they put their garbage and recycling out on the wrong days. And now, they've invited the whole neighborhood to a barbecue. One way or another, this is going to be a party to remember.

Outrageous Owls

Something's gotten into the owls at Kamakura beach. Not only are they showing up during the day, but they're fighting off the seagulls and dive-bombing surprised beachgoers to steal their bentos... and are they a little bigger than usual, too? Could some of these angry owls be angry spirits instead? Oh no! Duck!

Putrid Piles

Performance art or gross prank? That's the question in Ginza this week, where giant heaps of household garbage are appearing on the sidewalks and even in the street overnight. For some reason, no one's been able to catch a glimpse of the prankster. Maybe what they need is a little divine assistance, or at least some help power-washing the sidewalk before the upscale shoppers arrive.

Quilt Quandary

A fiber art exhibit at the Tokyo Art Museum is having some very strange problems. At first the labels just seemed to be out of order, but now it seems like the dozens of gorgeously sewed antique quilts in the exhibit have a mind of their own. They fall off the walls, they drape over display cases and swaddle priceless statues, and sometimes they even tangle up visitors or security guards. The museum needs someone to deal with whatever's gotten into their quilts in a hurry, but be careful and don't break anything!

The owls are attracted by the contents of the boxes, are they not? The boxes themselves should not interest them if there is nothing inside.

[And you know what? Lucina holds the ends of her cape to make a makeshift sort of bag.]

Here, let's use this to carry the food.

Most likely down to where the altar is meant to be, as it's happening to both brides and grooms.

[ At least, that's where the ayakashi doing all the work should be. It's- Well, while Hannah wouldn't say it aloud, especially not to this child, that's what she'd do. Yet there was also that 'we,' and her brows furrow just a little. ]

I was ordered to stay out here and stop anyone trying to run off. To disobey them... I couldn't.

[festal]

Oh...

(She looks at the cloak and then at Lucina,)

B-but that's your cloak. I-it'll get dirty and...

(Doesn't she mind?)

Uh, um...!

[She needs him, but he has no idea what to do. He's not a strategist, as familiar as this all feels. And he's not any good at drawing borderlines, not yet...

Good... smells good...

He lets out a breath.]

Think they'll follow us away from all these people?

[photoshooter]

Wah!

[He jumps. He's gotten used to people not noticing him around, so when someone does talk to him, it's like a splash of cold water.]

Oh... uh, you must be...

[He puts a hand to his chest, willing himself to calm down. Just another resident of the Far Shore. Like him. She must be, talking about ayakashi like that. He tries a smile.]

Uh, you wouldn't happen to be a--you know. A god. Right?

[doubleslash]

[Maybe she would have laughed over his startled reaction, but she was too busy focused on the ayakashi above them. They didn't seem to be too big of a threat, yet, but there were a lot. They would definitely cause problems, and it'll probably only get worse if something wasn't done about them.

But at his question, she turns to look at him again.]

No, I'm Rika. A shinki.

[She offers him a little smile at least.]

Despite the circumstances, I'm pleased to meet you. My god isn't here right now, but I would like to see if we can do something about these ayakashi before they cause more trouble.

[Her expression fell to one of determination as she looked back up towards the nest.]

I wonder if destroying the nest itself will help. The ayakashi would still live, but they would be scattered. However, doing such may only cause the ayakashi to find new homes and affect more people.

[She frowned. Maybe she should just keep an eye on them until her god came back. But she didn't want to just do nothing.]

[She needs him, yes, but Prompto isn't failing. If anything, the weight of his vessel form in her hands is a prompting, a motivator not to stop, to keep going, keep fighting, keep moving. Keep him safe. Keep them both safe. Keep the people safe.

So his suggestion is exactly what she needs.]

If we have their full attention, then...

[Once she's standing, she skids to a stop, cupping her free hand around her mouth and looking back at the owls. Some are in pursuit, but some are still diving at seagulls and abandoned lunches, and she needs them to spot her, too.]

COME ON! COME AT ME!

[Oh Gods that got their attention quick. The stragglers have noticed them, and the ones in pursuit are closing in...Lucina raises Prompto once more, finger on the trigger. It's much easier to aim when your target is focused on you and not moving erratically.]

We're going to take some out, and then we run, alright? [Pulls the trigger as the closest one swoops in - BLAM]

It can be washed. There are much more important things to worry about.

[She says it with a soft smile. It's not as if Lucina is oblivious to the concept of cleaning her clothes.]

[ It’s okay Lucina, not everyone can be as obsessively tidy as he is. ]

It might just be a rat. I’ve seen plenty of them hereabouts. [ He’s completely disregarding the possibility of ayakashi lurking hereabouts. He doesn’t seem all too concerned about it at this point—not when there’s even more to clean up now. ]

And don’t try to catch it, please. I’ll not be cleaning up after you if you make a mess as well.

If there are many of them...they must have been lured here by all of this.

[Probably sniffing out food and the like. She gives the toppled trash another curious look before she goes back to retrieve her bag, picking up what's been scattered on the street.

Lucina prickles, just slightly - just enough to be a touch irritated.] Thank you, but, I can clean up after myself just fine.

Marriage Mystery

[Orders are orders, so Archer finds himself watching the chapel. It's rather inconspicious aside the usual wedding decorations. In this exact moment a groom runs out of the door and straight into Archer.]

Oomph!

[Archer doesn't budge, while the groom groans covering his nose. That must've hurt.]

Outrageous Owls

[Since when do the owls attack during the day? While Archer has no qualms about watching the spectacle, his sense of duty prompts him to take an action. With a whispered command he materializes his bow and arrow and takes aim at the closest owl. Note that his definition of the closest may vary up to twenty meters from anyone else.]

Hmph.

[ A real druid would be vehemently against such action. But Cu isn't even close to what would be a real druid, even if he accepted his role as a Caster in this manifestation. So it's almost a little amusing to see shot birds dropping down among the beach and causing panic. Keyword: almost. ]

Didn't they teach you not to kill more than you can eat, oy?

[ Arguably dead owls are causing MORE panics than bento-stealing owls ]

I think this might not be how we're supposed to deal with this situation.

[Archer pauses his target practice and smirks.]

Took you long enough. [that, and the fact it's his god doesn't make any difference. He considers the owls, nocks an arrow and shoots two more. Impressive? He's an Archer, after all.]

Do you have a better idea?

[futhark]

Yes I do! Since you failed to notice it yourself, you'll have to do something for me first.

[ If that has to be you, be a nice shinki and behave ]

Give those owls some rest.

[boneofsword]

Suit yourself.

[Yet Archer's bow vanishes as he turns towards Cu and crosses his arms. He can behave and have some verbal sparring at the same time, because why not. The tattoo on his back, his shinki name, pulses in the rhythm of his heartbeat.]

Your turn.

[futhark]

Slow down. I know you're eager for action but hear me out. [ Not yet fighting time, Caster keeps just lazily observing the scene and points at the beach ]

You can kill the bird yourself, and no ayakashi escapes a carcass. You know what that means?

[boneofsword]

That those aren't ayakashi, but regular owls. [Archer frowns, having no idea where is that explanation leading. Nonetheless he does listen.]

[futhark]

We should check the food-boxes. [ Because something is clearly affecting the birds ]

[boneofsword]

A sound advice. [Is that a sarcasm? Most likely, since Archer can't keep it out of his voice. He starts towards the nearest bento boxes, picking one to sniff the contents suspiciously.]

[futhark]

[ And no one even bats an eye, because that's how it goes with mortals. Being unnoticeable has its perks ]

I'm not touching that. [ Getting blighted is annoying ] You try it.

[boneofsword]

Thanks, but no, thanks. It has enough spices to make it inedible. [Some may like it, though. Archer isn't going to taste it. Instead he places open hand beneath the box.] Trace on.

[Neku doesn't seem to mind it. Or even acknowledge it beyond looking over]

That's the kind of rate I can agree to, but you're gonna have to show me some of that work upfront so I can decide if you're worth it, you know.
