TEST DRIVE # 17



Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.



Courtly Cadavers

Several dead bodies have very suddenly returned to life. Not only that, but they seem to be possessed by very courteous and polite spirits. So there are reports of half-rotten beings bowing down to young ladies and kissing their hands or holding open doors for other passersby. It's really nice, sure, but also really disturbing.

Dark Deeds

In the middle of the night, there is a spirit that keeps turning off all of the street lamps. Fortunately, there aren't many cars on the roads at this time. Unfortunately, the spirit is also putting out all of the cars' headlights as well. And no cell phone lights or flashlights work during that time either and it's starting to cause a lot of accidents.

Endless Eight

There are eight blocks in downtown Tokyo that have taken to repeating endlessly. As you reach the end of the eight block, you find yourself stepping onto the first block again. No amount of turning or redirecting yourself will allow you to leave the eight blocks - until you stop by a cafe with a couple of bunny girls out front and make a purchase, that is.

Further Forward

Many in Tokyo want nothing more than to be on the cutting edge of technology! And there are some wealthy people who want to be even further ahead than everyone else. That's why they've sent out a general call for new types of technology to be brought to them. And if what you bring is impressive enough, you might get yourself a nice reward~

Giant Goats

Several farms on the outskirts of the city have reported a very sudden and tremendous growth in their goats. That's right, there are two-story tall goats hanging out with the other farm animals. Other than being very large, they seem mostly the same. But since goats will eat anything, well... Let's just say a couple of farmers are going to need new barns soon.

[ Probably not, but he still doesn't want to hear about your weird dating stuff, alright. ]

Look, everything keeps looping back to this one damn spot. It doesn't matter how far you try and go or how fast, or even how high. It always dumps you right back here.

There are plenty of stores around who could do it. There’s that cheap stuff they won’t miss.

[ He decided a few years ago to try the trust thing. He doesn’t think he’s in any danger right away, at least, that’s enough for now. ]

A little? [ He feels like his lungs will dry up and shrink. ] The Near Shore has terrible air.

[heartsound]

[ He sighs, and shakes his head. ]

No, I can’t. I’m out of stamina.

[ You can totally refill that. ]

I was looking for a bookstore but I couldn’t find any.

[asterflower]

Hmm... [Shion looks unsure and confused. He reaches up to pull his hair nervously and then sighs.]

There's nothing wrong with my phone, I'm sure of that. [He glances up at the arcade.]

There's probably a supernatural explanation to all of this, then.

[Which... He sighs again at. Why can't things just make logical sense around here?

As if on cue the bunny girls down a block start giggling. Shion doesn't notice but there they are, waving frantically at them. Yooo-hooooo!!]

[ The voice comes from above and she cants her head back to look. With the sky overhead she can make out the shape of someone overhead, but no more details than that, although she thinks she can see him moving. Which begs the question of... how is he even up there? ]

Ahh, sorry. I can't... really see you. Is everywhere as dark as this? Do you know what happened?

[Don't spook too much, Allen! He's just checking and with a curious and critical eye. He can feel the boniness in the hand and makes note of the red skin too. He doesn't look at all alarmed or disgusted. He's genuinely interested in how the hand works. why would he be disgusted he's got an ugly red scar that runs from his cheek all the way to his ankle

He looks up at Allen and blinks. What an odd thing to name your hand.] Innocence? Is there a reason you call it that?

[Because right now he's thinking it's a gained characteristic due to previous generations. You know, Darwinism. He never knows with how many strange people he's seen here if things are supernatural or not.]

S-steam engine?!

[He blurts that out a little faster than he means to. That's... not advanced at all. He blushes a little and rubs his hair.]

That's quite a few centuries behind the technology here I think...

[nuclearpowered]

[She nods solidly, nuclear blue flames already swirling around her, her outfit shifting in the blink of an eye. The bike, Johanna, appears beneath her once more and she sets herself.]

Ready when you are, Skull.

[Yeah, she's going back to the code names, now that they're doing actual Phantom Thieving. These aren't ayakashi, after all. Just goats.]

[Makoto stops, looking at the rather frozen Hibiki. That expression is one of either shock of extreme pain, and while this girl has proven herself to be rude and somewhat egotistical in the span of mere moments that doesn't mean Makoto wishes her ill.

Concern flits through dark red eyes, an eyebrow arching in bewilderment.]

What happened?

[Did you swallow a bug?]

[A small awkward chuckle escapes Ruca.]

That's why I was so amazed by everything they have here...

[Then he looks into the distance, smile still in place.]

There's still so much I don't know about this place.

[It's clear he likes learning new things. He's having a lot of fun here.]

Assist…? Software…?

[ what is this girl talking about? ]

You know, maybe you should tell me what computers are in the first place, before I get even more confused.

[ Oooh, things are flying, things are flying~

Obi sidesteps the hand, briefly following it with his gaze. ]

I guess that it does. I suppose you could say that they’ll have to dead with it instead.

[ Because that doesn’t sound weird at all. ]

[forreal]

[Aw, come on Yata. Are you saying you don't wanna hear all about his complete lack of a dating life?

He stares at Yata like he's grown another head. Or three.]

Huh? You sure you're not losin' it, man? I'm sure it's got somethin' to do with my GPS, it's been messed up since this morning when I got here.

[forreal]

[Ryuji definitely notices the girls calling out and beckoning at them, and he squints his eyes in return, not bothering to wave this time. Now that he's getting a good look at their faces, he finally notices that they're the same as the ones they'd passed earlier before continuing on down the block.]

You... you think they got anything to do with this? I don't think those are normal girls in bunny suits, dude.

[forreal]

[In a burst of blue flames around him, Ryuji is back in his Phantom Thief costume, the red bandana around his neck fluttering against his chest. Once she's mounted on the bike, his fingers reach up to graze the bottom edges of his mask and his mouth turns up into a wide, toothy grin as Captain Kidd appears with his cannon-hand at the ready.]

Heads up!

[With a boom, a string of electricity shoots over his head at the goat, aimed at its feet so as not to harm it, but it gives it a start – enough to set it into motion, and he winks at Makoto from behind his mask as it reappears over his eyes.]

Knock 'em dead, Queen!

[meowbel]

[When Mabel happened to hear Obi, she just started giggling]

Nah, we're just going to see if there's some flowers nearby! It's the least I could do when he's being such a gentlemen!

[...Nevermind the fact that there's flies all over the zombie but oh well]

Baaaaaa

[meowbel]

[If anything, Mabel was more impressed that there were giant goats everywhere! In fact, if it weren't for Makoto, she would have gone up to one and see if they wanted a hug!

But alas, she just couldn't.

...Or at least not yet]

Oh, oh! How about a giant bed of flowers! You think he'll eat that?

[meowbel]

[Hey, you can't blame her when she doesn't know it! Either way, as soon as the mysterious masked figure whipped out their rope, she couldn't help but gasp!]

H-Hey, you're going to treat that goat nicely aren't you? You better not harm him or else I'm going to be really mad!

[Because clearly this person was a superhero and has super strength if they're able to perform such a task, right?]

[At the very least, Toushirou can depend on her for the current situation.

Right now, it's hard to properly decipher who's friend or foe.]

Even if a god is out there with a soulless, it doesn't mean they should immediately be ruled out as an enemy. Right now, at least, we've gotten them all together.

[ ... You were most definitely one of the more paranoid people she's met. How many of the gods did you consider potential enemies instead of friends? Or allies as you don't seem to do the friend thing. ]

We're not even sure if this is a situation where there is an enemy.

[ She's not ruling it out, though. In fact- ]

If there is one, we could lose their trail or any evidence if we spend any time collecting the spirits ourselves. Yet it's not like we can leave them on the streets like this... I don't suppose you have contacts that you can reach for that sort of thing?

[ It was probably easier to take her seriously if Botan wasn't so naturally perky. ]

[That seems unlikely to her, but that's from her own experiences, and for all their similarities, ayakashi aren't Horrors. On the other hand, it doesn't look likely that this was caused by ayakashi, either.]

How high do you rank that as a possibility? [She is already turning around to regard the corpses closest to her, because if that really is the case, then she'd need to switch her priority to protecting the people. Just as there were Makai Knights back home, there are other gods here who'd be able to target the source.]

[dragonflood]

[If she were the type to raise her eyebrow, that would be the look on her face. She is on alert, but...while eating barns is a bit of a disaster, it's not like they're being actively malicious.]

[But it's true that they don't have time for the questions when the goats are in fact eating barns, so she shelves that away and turns back to the goats.]

Is there anything you can do? I can stop their movement, but these guys are victims, too. [Unless they're actually goat Horrors ayakashi, but...it doesn't look like that's the case.]

[dragonflood]

[She cracks a smile.] That's good.

[She starts heading to the shop.] Let's look into it. [She doesn't have any other leads, after all.]

Do you know anything about that kind of place? [Rekka doesn't, so if there's anything amiss, she wouldn't be able to spot it.]

[dragonflood]

[...Ah. Just a stamina issue. Not injured, then. Some of the urgency drains out of her.]

Was it dark when you arrived?

[In other words, did he see what might have made everything go dark. She was investigating this issue when she spotted him.]

Right!

[With that Makoto, Queen, takes off like a shot from a gun. The engine roars and she does two quick circuits around the goats, ensuring that she had their full attention. And then she stopped right in front of them and spun the tire of her bike, flinging dirt, mud, and stones up into the goat's faces. Yes it's rude, but man does it work. They bleat angrily and snap at her, but she rides just out of range.

And the goats follow, of course, ungainly at that size...]

Now, Skull! Get them moving!
